Apple AirPods Pro2 on eBay. Genuine or Fake?

Hi all, I'm looking at getting Apple AirPods Pro2

Best price I can find is at Costco for $339. And, yes, I do have membership.

The price on eBay though is a lot lot lot lot less, because I'm assuming they are not genuine Apple products. However, they are advertised on eBay stating that Brand is Apple.

Assuming they are not genuine, how/why, does eBay allow them to be advertised in a manner that makes it appear they are?

What am I missing other than possibly common sense.

Thanks
KP

    Fake
I assume fake unless the deal is from an actual retailer

They look real, but actually fake. Cousin gave me one to try. Tried a few times, and they actually connect, but sound quality, comfort and features weren't good enough to make me want to use them again.

eBay does not check anything. They're simply the marketplace

Easy to join , harder to police . Not that eBay really gives a stuff . However if you use PayPal , your purchase should be protected. That has been my experience ✅

"how/why, does eBay allow them to be advertised in a manner that makes it appear they are"

eBay do not give a rats ass whether the product is genuine or not - they simply want the sales fee.

eBay lists fake products of some of the genuine items we sell, but even after complaining to eBay numerous times they do nothing about it.

I think the underlying issue is that eBay Australia have no control over what eBay China list.

    • eBay lists fake products of some of the genuine items we sell, but even after complaining to eBay numerous times they do nothing about it.

May I ask what kind of proof you provided that persuaded eBay to investigate and then may I enquire that if eBay did investigate, that they did nothing about it?

Perhaps they did investigate and there was nothing for them to see?

Try listing some Chanel merchandise and see how long that lasts.

Furthermore, eBay don't create the listings, the sellers do. eBay never have posession of what is being listed so have no idea what condition it is in or even if all pictures and descriptions match.

      • Ebay told me they would only act on a counterfeit listing if the complaint was lodged by the copyright holders legal department/advisor.

Interesting take on the issue om the web:
        ⚖️ Trademark Law & Liability
Under laws like the Lanham Act in the U.S. and similar legislation in Australia, selling counterfeit goods is illegal. If an auction site is found to be willfully blind or negligent in addressing counterfeit activity, it could face legal consequences. Courts have debated this, but there’s no universal precedent yet.

  • Assuming they are not genuine, how/why, does eBay allow them to be advertised in a manner that makes it appear they are?

    How would eBay know?

Apart from there being millions of listings to sift through and verify, they have the added disadvantage that they don't actually have the item in their possession. Even if they were qualified to determine a genuine product from a counterfeit product, they do not have physical possession of it to inspect it.

If you are suspicious, the best you can do is to report the listing to eBay (let them do whatever it is that they do) and do not buy that product.

  • Was a forum post on this subject a few months back about a guy trying to price match $99 airpod pro 2 from eBay at officeworks no? Definitely fake

  • I bought some fakes from a certain site for $30 delivered 3 years ago. Packaging is perfect. Sound is excellent. They have serial numbers, location, connect perfectly, battery life is excellent , etc.

They’re basically on par with genuine .

  • Pro 3 are rumoured to be released soon possibly sept 9. I would wait till then
