    DANS35 tomorrow?
Would have saved an extra two dollars had I waited a day! Nooo!

Dan's aren't what they used to be. You can't trust them for walk in purchases without doing research anymore (in terms of macro beers) and their product lines aren't adventurous. You can't walk in and find unique lines like quality lesser known international imports, have to try small independent bottleshops.

But yeah, stock up for parties, 18th, 21sts… But the reliability is gone from Dans

Couldn't agree more. You used to be able to search and and discover new things in there. Now its all very boring, particularly the wines and beers. Spirits seem comparable to most other places though

      • +2

There is so much better spirits than what Dan's has, especially whiskies.

    • +1

100%. All the base prices are expensive and they only match prices if you ask.
The Whisky and Wine selection are typical mainstream stuff with high mark up.

Also being the Shark in the sea, their standard "walk in" prices aren't always the greatest. I don't want to cherry pick but their prices are almost identical, or a little higher than my local bottle shop.
      e.g.
      JW Black 700m - Dan's member $54, non-member $54.95, local bottle O has it for $52,99 as standard price
      JW Red 1L - Dan's member $64.90, local bottle O $59.99

But it's such OzB/Cashback deals that make Dan more competitive.

idk about their spirits, but on beer and wine it's very unusual for their non-sale price to be worse than anyone else's non-sale price, and on those cases I just use their price beat for an extra $1 or whatever off

        • +1

Agreed that their range on the beer front is pretty limited, as a general rule, however. I buy from my local more often because they have Hargreaves Hill Extra Stout even though it's $$$ because it's goddamn good and Dan's just don't have it (or anything comparable).

I've been wondering how they can afford to do these promotions in recent months. Evidently this is how - their in-store prices are higher.

    If Spending…
    $149 - saving of 0%
    $150 - saving of 16.67%
    $155 - saving of 16.13%
    $160 - saving of 15.63%
    $165 - saving of 15.15%
    $166 - saving of 15.06%
    $170 - saving of 14.71%

For those who wanted to compare to yesterday's 15% off (DANS15) deal, this deal is better if you're spending between $150 - $165.

    • 2x Aberfeldy's hit right inside the optimum region. But i just collected my Laphroaigs from yesterday….

    • Thank you

  • Got a message saying my order was ready for pick up from yesterday.

Only got half of it as apparently they have a marketplace going online so I'll have to visit again when they get the rest of the order in.

For those having access to discounted gc's rewards gateway is offering 6% instead of 5% (only today) for Dan Murphy's.

  • Glenfiddich 18 for $125.

  • dunno if it's just me, but $150 seems to be the line for free delivery ($9.90 off), which seems convenient .. !

Thanks OP ordered 2x Laphroaig 10yr at $62.50 each. yes please.

    • +1

People seemed to recommend Laphroiag very often. How is it compared to my usual drink, Louis XIII? Better or worse? I usually enjoy it with LA Ice Cola to reduce the alcohol content so it won't get to burny.

      • +2

Laphroaig mixes very poorly with LA Ice Cola, but it is fantastic with ALDI brand Cola

        • +1

Agree. Also, if you are a liquor snob fond of 'pairings', Laphroaig + cola pairs very nicely with defrosted pizza or a McDonald's cheeseburger.

I can't comment on the comparison with Louis XIII, as I've only ever had that mixed with Sunkist.

          • @JuliusCheaper: I'll be sure to smash some laphroaig and cola with my reheated maccas and dominos! thanks!

      • Laphroaig is an Islay whisky (peaty), so unless you like peaty (to have it neat, with a few drops of water or just on the rocks), it wouldn't be a fair comparison with anything other than another Islay whisky (just my opinion). I wouldn't mix it with anything to be honest.

Update, I ordered without looking closely, it was the Select Cask Laphroaig not the 10yr, but still, not bad.

    • must be a local store deal, day before it was $89 so it can't be $62.50 with this deal.
Edit: saw your last comment too late about them being Select Cask. yes that sounds about right and a good deal nevertheless for that price!
