  • Your old man should be happy. Looks dad approved to me.

  • Nice ! 3 Year Battery & Charger Replacement Warranty.

Great to consider at this price vs buying a generic off eBay or Amazon etc for around the same price point.

    • +1

I've bought a bunch of generic Ryobi batteries; all of them had to be refunded within a couple of months for a variety of issues.

If you don't want to pay Ryobi's prices, then I recommend buying Ozito, not fake Ryobi. It's also great to be able to use 2 x 18V Ozito batteries in parallel instead of having to buy an entirely new style of 36V battery like you need to do with Ryobi.

      • +1

I agree. The 3x 4AH 18v pack for $99 is great value for tools that take it.

        • +2

Yeah. I have both Ryobi 18V and 36V and I'm slowly giving it away as I move to Ozito.

On that rare occasion I need something higher quality than Ozito then I buy Metabo. Ryobi is only marginally better quality than Ozito anyway.

        • is the 3x 4AH ozito bundle a standard deal or a time-limited one?

  • Anyone in Sydney inner west/inner south west keen to split the pack? Please PM me

I'm sure it runs on fossil fuel too

Calculations are a little off. You forgot small engine oil, spark plugs and carby cleaner.

Time it takes to pull said carby apart and clean it because you left fuel in there last year.

I would have to swap the air filter over either way.

      • +1

Don't forget the cost of hearing aids after 15 years of listening to a 2 stroke motor.

      • Small engine oil, I bought one of those 4L 20-50w gulf western oils on special for $9.99 a bottle about 4 years ago… Still more than half a bottle left with yearly oil changes (which is way overkill considering most people never change the oil in their mower), I've never needed a new spark plug in my 20 year old mower. Spark plugs do a shit load more "sparking" in a car in 1 month then they'd do in a mower in 10 years, and they last 10 years+ in cars… So yeah, no dice on your exaggeration there either. I have had to do the carby once, you've got me there… The kit was $3.50 on eBay.

We can get picky the other way too mate if you want to play that game.

You are having to pay "up front" for 15 years worth of fuel by buying these batteries, so the opportunity cost of that $250~ over 15 years is more like $900~ (assuming s&p 500 average returns of 9%pa). On top of this you also have to factor in the actual "fuel" cost, as these are just a storage vessel… Yes your solar may be "free" (let's not get into the opportunity cost/investment in the solar to begin with, this is getting complicated enough) but you are still at a minimum missing out on your feed in tariff or if you charge at night, you are probably paying 30~c/kWh to charge.

36V @ 4Ah is 144Wh of energy. Inside these packs are lithium cells called 18650 cells. To get 144Wh you'd need about 16 cells. Cheapest (but brand name) cells would go for $5 each. 5*16=$80 just for the cells alone. Add the charging electronics and assembly, $140 retail sounds about right. Generic batteries that is $80 or less is simply fake and dangerous.
Having said this, Bunnings has an Ozito 18V 2.5Ah battery AND charger for $19.98. There are 5 cells in that battery, so the cells alone will cost $25. Which makes Ozito the winner because they actually SUBSIDISE the battery, compared to other brands which mark up the battery severely.
