I had bad experience with these usb c torches.. after 2 or 3 charges, touches stop charging!

    • +6

      These have replaceable batteries.

      • Where do you get the batteries though? Genuine question.

        • +1

eBay etc has a selection of generics. I haven't tested personally but Olight have them. Given they're a torch brand I'd trust their batteries are suitable.

          https://au.olight.com/store/olight-18350-1100-mah-rechargeab…

          • @Clear: these batteries by olight are proprietary mate, should only work with other olights

I use Vapcell batteries for my sofirns and wurkkos torches, I buy them off alix

            • @cultural: Proprietary is shit. Especially for this size. Vapcell it is then

        • +2

For 21700 and 18650 sizes, you can get genuine branded(Panasonic,Samsung etc) batteries from australian suppliers.

But for 14500 button top size,I have found only Soshine batteries from Ali Express for a reasonable price.Flashlight branded 14500 are more expensive than Samsung/Panasonic 18650/21700 LOL

For 18350 its even more difficult and you need to pay a lot for a decent one.So I steer clear of 18350

So stick to 18650/21700 and flattop if possible for the best quality and prices.

        • +1

I bought 18650s from TinkerTech. Pretty fast shipping

    • -7

I agree. Cheap stuff does not last longer.

      • +5

So you have never heard of battery issues on expensive smart phones from Apple, Samsung etc. ??
Cheap doesn't mean poor quality and Expensive doesn't mean top quality. Just my view.

    • +3

I've had this exact light for over a year and it's held up perfectly fine.

      • +1

Same here. I own two, and gifted one to my brother. All have worked well. Sofirn is a reputable brand among enthusiasts.

    • Same issue here. Where can one get rechargeable batteries please in Melbourne?

  • +8

Also available with the sst40 for a dollar more.

I used USD and my wise card and it was the same price USD$9.84/AUD$15.37
      Cheers

      (AUWS05 + GDSC13)

    • I wasn't sure what was going to be more popular. Opted for the newer version (this) as it's a tad warmer and cheaper

      • +4

The one you posted (519a) has better colour rendering. I have one, I love it, it's like daylight colours, not that washed out "flashlight" look.

        • Thanks for confirming. Looks like I bought the right one then!

      • +1

I prefer the warm white 5000K compared to the brighter cool white 6000K . 6000K gives a more washout and overblown colour to objects while 5000K maintain a more natural colour like under the sunlight.

However I have recently bought the Sofirm SC12 Mini, which also utilises my four spare 18350 batteries at home, no need to buy this one now.

  • +1

only the 2nd code does anything,
    so its 20.51

    • +2

      Yeah me too. $20.79.

      • +3

That's not a valid reason to neg the deal. Why punish me when you could have asked for help or even better hit the report button to say the price isn't correct.

        • +1

Fair enough. How do I get it for the posted price? It's not just me it's not working for me.

Happy to remove the neg and apologise if it's my (profanity).

          • +1

@tonydav: What codes aren't working? Is your AliExpress account new? If your account is new, AliExpress sitewide codes won't work because new accounts can get a "Welcome offer" that puts a massive discount on some products.

            • +3

@Clear: No it's an old account.

The first code gives this error:

Unable to apply promo code. The total after discount (excl. shipping) doesn't meet the minimum purchase amount.

The second 2 codes both work but they don't stack. So both $6.31 discount but only one works.

              • @tonydav: Old account with no recent orders? What USD price do you get before discounts? On the product page? If it's less than US$15.45 it would be some kind of welcome offer.

                • +2

                  @Clear: $15.45usd.

the issue is that AUWS05 doesn't apply.

Checked again. Cleared all coupons as it was auto-applying one. Now worked.

Thanks for your help. Neg removed - actually trying to it's not letting me. <grovelling apology>.

                  • +1

@tonydav: Are you trying to revoke it through the 'votes' tab on top?

                  • @tonydav: The voucher AUSC13 auto-applies and always bring the price to AUD20.78. How do you get rid of it?

                    • +2

@thangln: You can remove it. You also need to be in USD or it won't work properly.

    • +1

      En loop?

    • +5

It takes a common li-ion battery size. Unscrew the bottom and replace it if you want. When they say rechargeable, they mean you can recharge the battery in it through the torch, rather than taking the battery out and using a battery charger (which you can also do).

      • -7

Not sure I'd consider a 18350 battery common.

I'd much rather one that just takes AAA batteries. Find out it's dead? Just chuck some batteries in it from your Amazon Basics battery stash and move on.

        • +1

I do agree AAA and AA batteries more common and I prefer them too, though I do have 4 spare 18350 batteries sitting around at home, so a 18350 powered torchlight is useful in my case.

        • +2

I do find it annoying that there doesn't seem to be any more good quality torches that support the 14500 lithium and AA standard battery (they are the same size). It added some flexibility being able to grab some AA's in an emergency or backup.

          • @yoho: I have the Sofirn SP10 Pro which can use both 14500 and rechargeable NiHM AA (e.g. Eneloop) batteries, it's one of my most used torchlights.

            • @edfoo: Looks like it is not longer available. I am a fan of Sofirn, the only failure I had was on a HS05 (also discontinued), which was 14500/AA headlamp torch (no new model unfortunately)

              • +1

@yoho: I can still see SP10 Pro being sold in AliExpress but not on any sale and not cheap at the moment.

          • @yoho: Lumintop tool AA
            Acebeam TAC AA
            AceBeam Pokelit AA

            • @techno2000: Lumintop tool AA. Thanks, I forgot I had one of these and now recall it worked well. Found the box but the torch as disappeared. So it is going on my alerts.

        • +1

Common, for li-ion sizes. Easy to find a replacement if it dies, which is what you claimed to be concerned about.

          • @Joost: No. I'm concerned about having replacements on hand ready to go.

Storm hits in summer. Power goes out. Go to use the torch sitting in the draw but the battery is depleted. What are you more likely to have lying around the house, some AAA batteries or some 18350?

I know personally it would be AAA. But that's me.

            • @PainToad: Nothing stopping you from having a bunch of 14500/18650/21700 as spares. And alkaline AA and AAA have very less energy.

              • +1

@techno2000: Buying extra batteries specifically for a $15 torch when I could just buy a torch that uses standard everyday batteries seems odd to me. But I'm getting voted down…so maybe I'm the odd one. But that's okay.

            • @PainToad: This is a very small torch for carrying everyday (I literally do). I would not recommend it as a "leave in the draw" type torch.

    • +2

FWIW I’ve had a couple of Sofirn torches (bit bigger than this OP torch) for a few years now, with very occasional use. I’ve only charged them a handful of times, the standby life is great on mine despite the always-on green LED in the power button.

      • +3

I keep one in my bag for emergencies, and recommend physically locking the light by unscrewing the head a quarter turn. Stops any parasitic drain from the e-switch.

  • Am i right but after both codes $5.61 USD delivered?

  • +1

    Thanks.

Was able to get them for AU$10.15 via using coins

  • +4

Got this in the coins section for US$2.23 after my $0.98 shopping credits discount. The price was, in USD, $15.44 less $4 store coupon, $6.48 coins (42% off), $3 Ali coupon, and my $0.98 credit. Tax $1.25. Ie if you’ve no credit it should be $2.23+$0.98=$3.21. Seems a decent price. Oh, and don’t forget TCB 15% cashback as well.

    • +2

maaan, the way you went that far with series of discounts, they should have handed you one for free.

  • +1

Didn't need it. Bought one. Came to $4.52USD with all coupons added. Wow!

    • Didn't work for me 🤔

  • Is there a headband that can be purchased to side load this torch?

    • +3

Don't bother. Just wait for one of Sofirn headlamps goes on sale next time.

  • Grabbed it for US$9.54 before coins.

  • Didn't work for me. Said the total was below minimum to use the coupons

    • +3

Remove the existing coupon first. AliExpress will auto add a lesser coupon which takes it below threshold.

  • Does this have a headband? Looking at the link I can't see any info about one. Cheers.

    • Sofirn HS10 is a similar torch that has a headband.

      • Thanks for that.

  • Managed to get it for $USD9.23 / $AUD14.37 by applying AUWS05, AUSC13 and some Aliexpress coins as well. Happy days.

  • +8

If you’ve got coins, but you’re only getting ~2% off for this torch, you’re doing it wrong.

Go to the coins section of the app
    Search the for sofirn sc13
You should get a couple of options with a coin discount of 42%
Select the 519A (or the other option if you prefer sst40)
Below the price, click on the pink coupon bar, then
    - Ensure you’ve collected the US$3 off $15 coupon
    - Ensure you’ve collected the US$4 off $15 store coupon (519A), or US$2 off $10 (sst40)
    Click on Buy Now
Price for 519A should be US$3.21 (or less if you’ve got shopping credit), or US$5.70 for sst40

    • +1

Thanks for the details and to OP for the listing.

Ended up at $AUD4.09 for the SST40 version on the app with shopping credits, coupons and coins

    • +1

Doesn't work for me.. The biggest discount with coins I get on this torch is 3%. Or 4-6% on more expensive models. I scrolled the entire list to the end.
Maybe because I don't have enough coins - about 600.

  • Can anyone recommend a big, heavy torch? We've been getting a lot of car thieves and I would like to 'scare' them away

    • whats your budget?

      • up to $100 similar budget to a baseball/cricket bat

  • Good deal but too thick to be pocketable which I’m trying to find a torch for

    • Wurkkos TS10 V2 was available for $20 delivered on Ali Express. Its nice and pocketable and uses a 14500.

  • Can't get the AUWS05 code to work ($3 off $15)

  • Thanks OP, nabbed one at $15.62, not sure how everyone else was stacking for cheaper. I didn't have coins, so probably that

  • Struggling to get this down past $19.55 (after tax), first and last coupon codes won't apply. No coins, have some recent orders, browsed the coupon code section. Bugger

    • +1

You need to change your payment currency from AUD to USD. Then apply the code AUWS05 on the checkout page. The price goes down to $9-ish USD then converts back to $15-ish AUD on payment. You can maximise this by using an international fee free payment method.

      • You're right. Didn't realise that my app had reverted to AUD instead of USD. Working now
