Are Councils Abetting Car Thieves

I live in a residential parking zone where I have to put a sticker on my windscreen with my street on it.

In a long term battle with the council, I have always blacked that out. Nothing special about my car but it's not common, and valuable for parts.

Wouldn't it be easy for the local kiddie gangsters to tour carparks and find the streets of their preferred models?

The councils could easily fix it.

One solution is to go ePermits aka digital permit allocated to your rego.

You sound like that one resident that gives pain to Council customer care for some crazy stuff lmfao!

  • Sell and buy a Camry, parts are aplenty.

  • Saw something the other day that March 2024 compared to March 2025 there were 47.1% more cars stolen, totalling 31,551

Nobody is going to bother to do that level of research for a car heist.
Anyone who was running such a sophisticated chop-shop operation would have other ways of getting desired vehicle addresses rather than looking for cars with a council sticker.

It is a partial doxing if you have enemies/stalkers though. So sure cover it up if there is some reason why people you encounter may actually stalk you.

For example you have a stalking ex and don't want them knowing your new address.
You could raise this legitimate "women's safety" issue with the council and ask them to change to some QR code or encoded text, eg a number for each street rather than making it so obvious with street name.
Really they should just get with the times with numberplate reader apps and cam cars which just drive the street hourly and automate tickets.

    • Crime of opportunity vs premeditation.
If someone knows an old car well and knows that its worth something (and they know which suburb and street its on) you bet they'll steal it.

  • id just put a $2 air tag clone on. That way they can see were you park and learn your hrs eg leaves for work at 7am.

Doesn't give notification we noticed an air tag on you.

i use the finein tags my self $2.79 are they as good as air tags no, but i havent had a issue run about 12. all sets of keys, vehicles, im my tool cases so i can see i i hav ethem at work or at home and what shed/trailer they are in. Ive even used them when sending items through mail, dropped one in a couple of work tools that always get borrowed such as a genny or on the dingo trailer.
