Volkswagen is an (profanity) company that pushes the subscription BS

    • -6

BMW backtracked when it backfired. At least BMW makes half decent car.

      • Not really no. BMW just tried pushing a digital subscription on me for maps updates, real-time traffic information and being able to use the car’s exterior cameras remotely.

For the low, low price of $199 annually. It is as if these clowns don’t know that phones exist. But I guess some boomer customers may actually pay them for a worse version Google Maps.

        • +2

"BMW just tried pushing a digital subscription on me"

Buy a newer one. They have stopped the subscription none sense on heated seats etc after it backfired.

Map update has always been expensive from day dot and anyone with phone will just use AA and CP.

At least no plastic bits in the waterpump, nor a dual clutch that will leave one strained. The BMW rear wheel drive platforms are still one of the best out there.

          • @SetTheFaqUp:

subscription none sense on heated seats, etc

Oh my lord! Really? Seats? Maps? Wow!

I’m an owner and a fan of Tiguan’s but that’s ridiculous they did this. No way I’d accept that shit.

            • @YoursTruly: There are a few used BMW's floating around from cir covid era with many subcripable options from heated wheels, seat to performance tunes.

What I don't know is whether the parts (such suspension) will be covered indefinitely by bmw in the forms of warranty. Might be a good deal if it is the case, given adaptive suspensions of all forms are prone to immature failure.

This is a Tiguan Allspace, will be superseded by the Tayron.

  • The leather interior bumps it up by about $20000… Why is a leather finish always so expensive for brands when they sell in this country!

    • +9

So they can rip off people

    • +1

You can get aftermarket one installed (on the factory seats) for $2000~$3000

    • A used car with leather interior must be worth $$$?

      • you cant put seat covers on cars with airbags that pop up from the seat's sides

        • Good to know but I wouldn’t cover leather seats with fabric anyway

  • +22

Also a lot of metal for 110kw.

    • Yeah that little 1.4 is going to be working really hard

      • +4

as much as i dislike VW its not that bad

its 1.6 ton which is about the same as any other compact suv

the motor does 110kW and 250Nm and 0-100 is about 9 secs which is really ok

  • +3

Why would someone buy this over a say, Atto 3 or EX5?

    • If you want a petrol car I guess. But seriously, then you should still not opt for a Volkswagen.

      • What your suggested alternative at this price point pls?

    • Especially if you have solar at home, free excess energy for your tank..

      • or EV plans with low/free electricity windows. I basically get paid to drive as I charge for free and NL rebates me per 100km

110% agreed; the only ones that neg have never delt with the poor quality and appalling aftersales service

      • +2

I just neg because I and my family + friends have had completely different experience. Obviously some people have a bad time, no denying that but across our family we've owned 5-10 VAG cars and not much more than a hiccup. Current cars are both VW, a 2015 and a 2019 but am looking at adding a 3rd earlier model, the 2019 is a tiguan that we upgraded to from a 2013 tiguan that again had no problems we just needed more space.

We bought the 2013 tiguan for about 13.5k, drove it around for a few years and sold it later for 12k. Even compared to cars 5+ years newer like a 2020 CX5 I sat in i'd take the 2013 tiguan all day, interior + engine + gearbox are light years ahead.

        • +1

There was a female driver in the lane across from me with the bumper sticker “I ❤️ VAG”. I figured she was bold and being pretty open about things.

It wasn’t until sometime later that I realised what it truly meant and, yes, she was driving a Volkswagen…

    • +5

At 8 years with the current one and all good. Previous started needing replacing parts at around 9.5 years. Don't know what you're on about.

    • Still rocking our 2017 Skoda Superb. No issues so far and we drive 10-15k KM per year. Mind you it's the 206tsi

      • 206tsi is a very different beast.

    • -1

my 2012 tiguan i purchased in 2020 for $13k with 74k speedometer still going strong, no issues.

      • It's limited to 74km/h? That doesn't sound like a good buy.

  • What are they normally worth?

  • +1

    $39,990 for a 110tsi is a sluggish bad deal.
    DSG continues to cause problems.

  • +1

Agree on sluggish, I had 162kw model allspace was just about right for power.

    • Agree, have the cx5 turbo, and that is the minimum power I would want

  • -2

    Old slow junk suv

  • +5

People talking down the brand instead of the car. Have you actually test driven one? It is a very refined drive.

    • -6

The Tiguan specifically, no, they suck to drive. Wobbly and feels unresponsive. These shit go on carsales for cheap, competing only against that one other brand in this category.

      • +4

that begs the question, what SUV for $40k is good to drive and has good engine response AND has good warranty from a reliable Asian brand???

        • -4

Rav4 starts at 46k driveaway. For an extra 6k the Rav4 will run circles around any Volkswagen. And outlast it. 160KW to boot.

                100% depreciated in that time

            • @daft009: Well pony up the extra and buy the Lexus.

              • @JIMB0: Fugly to me

Can get 2 year old base model CX-60s for close to $40k and that would be my pick, if you really must have Japanese.

          • @xyron: i think early mazda cx50s 60s whatever are shit

you gotta ask yourself why they keep haivng to do yearly revisions to 'fix' suspension and what not

they look good IMO but i also dont trust their hybrid systems

if it was just a plain 3,0 inline six? yeah

    • "very refined drive" what does this even mean in layman's term.

      • NVH

        noise vibration harshness

        drive a Landcruiser 70 and then a Landcruiser LC300 and you'll see

        • "Landcruiser LC300".

They do last for some time. If "refinement" is what one after, then Lexus is the more obvious choice?

Modern day LC300 is not that bad to be frank. They have added some sound insulation to the top trims.

Lexus goes beyond with acoustic glass which even cut price BMWs are holding back and fitting those to their cars.

          • @SetTheFaqUp: its my opinion that a mid spec LC300 at $120k (!!!) is a vastly overengineered and refined 2.5 ton platform that most people will find to be absolutely amazing

i think that extra 5% refinement to get to a Lexus LX570d whatever isnt probably worth it???

who's gonna sit in a $120k LC300 and go "ahh this is low rent shit"

    • +1

My FIL has a 162 Adventure Allspace that he's about to trade in on an Amarok Panamericana. It's not bad to drive by any means (miles ahead of the miserable RAV4 that people pay over retail for) but I wouldn't describe it as "refined".

The 110TSI engine in these $39,990 buckets, on the other hand, is a dog.

      • 100% on this RAV4 statement.

Biggest overpriced vehicle at the moment.. sure paying for reliability but the drive and interior is shocking for value.

        • They routinely sell ex-gov at Pickles for near retail price despite being 2-3 years old.

Meanwhile ex-police Tiguan Allspaces go for $15-18k…I'd rather have one of them, kill it, and buy another one, than pay $40+k for a 3 year old Rav4. But people who hate cars, hate driving, and hate having to spend money on maintenance will always buy a Toyota over a European car.

          • @xyron: i'd say is me if you can deal with some trips to the mechanic AND the idea that a truly debilatating problem can wreck the car ie. engine and dsg issues

i also DESPISE the RAV4 as a catchall - who the hell wants a 2wd base spec $46k pile of shit… that unfortunanately lasts forever

lifes too short to drive that kind of boring reliable sludge

BUT I admit the prospect of a reliable white rav4 that gets you to work all day every day has an attraction… for NPCs…

    • not the 110TSI.. it drives like a lawn mower

  • -4

“Grabs popcorn for the diesel gate comments”.

      Getting old.

      • Unlike all the people it killed.

  • Shame there's no diesel option…

    • Why do you need a diesel on a little drive around the city car?

      • i'd probably agree with this

the EU is moving away from diesel for obvious reasons for the last decade lol

and the maintenance issues with potential high pressure fuel pumps and dpf (if needed)

i think for this use, direct injected petrol is ok… EV is probanly better lol if you can put up with the lack of range

A brand new Tiguan? Must be nice….

    • No one will ever know, none in stock…

I own a VW Tiguan 132TSI life and my brother in law has the 110TSI. The 132TSI is a great little car when its working. Meanwhile the 110TSI is very slow and boring to drive. Overall, we both hate them. Services are expensive, my recent 3 year service was $560, and they suggested $1500 worth of critical improvements for the engine. I've done 32,000kms and its been back in the shop 6 times now for coolant and turbo related issues. Meanwhile brother in law in a different state has had engine oil leaks since it had 8,000kms. I paid $55k including on road costs for it 3 years, I've been considering trading it in and The most a dealer has offered me as a trade in is $21k, so 60% loss in 3 years.

    • my thoughts exactly. just get a BMW next time. that's always predictable. I mean, you just know you need new oil every month and it runs like a dream.

      • +2

        bmws are… predictable?

        predictabley… shite?

        • haha see you at the race track

among euro luxury brands bmw is the only one to get these days. Audi is just VW with a different badge, and Merc is trash.

          • @shabaka: i dont think that's the target market for a $40k slow ass VW tiguan…

            • @tonyjzx: well yes I agree. it's a phenomenal price for a euro space decent SUV, on the surface at least. once you factor in uphill struggle and QA.. don't do it to yourself I'd say. but if I was in this budget I'd give it a bit of consideration TBH

  • Or you can get the same car for $30k with a few km on it !!!

    https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2024-volkswagen-tig…

    • That has 40,000km in a span of 1.5years. I wouldn't touch it. But each to their own.

      • 40k should be just break in right?

BUT its been broken in by sanjeev as as uber…. right?

  • And why not a Chinese compared to these? Given the VAGs usually starts breaking down after 100k kms on them.

  • Get a sealion 6 for almost this price brand new 2025 model for 45k driveway.

    Germans car brands are dreaming

    • Gone are the days of precision German craftsmen
