    Never anything for Brisbane…..

Scoot has ceased operating in Queensland since 2023.

First extra link in the OP appears to be exclusively from BNE, goes to a few more cities and is only a couple of hundred more for a full service airline which I imagine includes baggage as well.

    +$548 for baggage… WT !!!

That’s a long way to go on an LLC, damn. For ultra budget travellers, OK, but even $4-500 more can get you into Europe full service if you plan ahead.

      LCC?

      • +5

        Low-cost Carrier

        Scoot, AirAsia, EasyJet, Wizz etc

        Edit: sorry, oops. Yep, LCC

        • How bad can it be if you BYO everything?

          • @Fobsessive: Pretty bad comfort wise, but that’s subjective. I’ve done AirAsia and VietJet recently and while they’re OK for short hops, 7h+ SGN-PER is not comfortable for me if I can’t get an enhanced legroom seat. 12h would really be pushing it.

Timing is for when you wanna ski in Vienna or wrap yourself in blankets in Athens…lol

Great prices, but I'm at the stage of life where I couldn't imagine doing long hauls to Europe in scoot. I did economy Cathay Pacific to china in June and it was fantastic, felt like premium economy.

For about $100 for the SIN-ATH leg you can upgrade to the Scoot in Silence section just behind the business class. There's a couple more inches of seat pitch but they don't really advertise it much. To be honest it was fine and i'd rather be spending the money saved with a LCC on the ground. The baggage fees are definitely where you are going to be stung if you can't travel light-ish, and if that's the case better value may be had from a full service carrier deal.

Just because Boeing calls it a dreamliner doesn't mean it is a dream.

Hopefully they don't do another rug pull and decide to just stop flying from the airport you're supposed to fly in/out of leaving you stranded on the other side of Europe like scoot did to me.

Had to fight tooth and nail to get them to compensate me for my own re-routing flights, accommodation and food costs from Helsinki down to Athens when they changed my return flight departure from Berlin to Athens lol.

    • The European charter of rights for flyers should have taken care of this for you.

The beatthatflight website has become too awkward for me to even look at nowadays. I know you need to pay for hosting etc, but geewhiz, those ads and the layout.
Im not sure if it gets better on desktop but mobile version makes my eyes water

I had to fly DPS to SYD via SIN this year with Scoot.

The 11 hour layover in SIN and the extortionate baggage fees for the two legs were a killer.

By throwing out things like my books and a motorcycle helmet, i managed to just have a carryon bag weighing 11 kg which was waved through.

I also did not buy any food or drink on the plane. I just ate no name muelsi bars which I brought with me.

      • Tasti bars are where it's at

        • N&N Protein bars have around the same protein per 100g. Are Tasti bars as tasty as tasty cheese?

          • +1

@Fobsessive: Better than colby! Give the peanut butter a crack, or the salted caramel if you want the extra protein

What a routing. Was this to save costs or did you get caught out with availability? Thoughts and prayers even with SIN being a great location to stopover.

      • I have done the Scoot DPS to SYD via SIN twice now.

        It was to save cost.

If your layover is > 5 hours, there is a free bus tour available from Singapore Airport.

There is also a small supermarket who will warm up your Pot Mie, if you buy the Pot Mie from them.

I had to carry my 11 kg cabin bag around Singapore Airport for 11 hours.

        • +2

You gotta go the storage counters at that point, spend a few bucks and be free.

Would you say the hassle / stopover / cost of left behind items made it worth doing in the end?

          • @zfind: After each Scoot trip, I always say never again.

JQ sold me a $149 SYD to DPS flight, but the DPS to SYD return JQ flight was far more expensive.

          • @zfind: SG airport is a playground though!

  • Has anyone actually used scoot to europe?
    Is it bearable?

    • +2

I have. I thought it was just fine, 31 inches of seat pitch is respectable and the seats themselves were reasonably comfortable. The whole process was smooth enough. It's hard to make such a long flight comfortable but bring your own food and a sleep aid and it's doable.

The value proposition falls apart if you need the paid luggage options but we did quite well on our 1-month trip with some wiggle room without needing it - we still had plenty of clothes with us. Honestly found it quite liberating, especially since it saves you more money on budget European airlines.

Not for everyone but the $$$ saved was worth it for us.

  • +1

Scoot for syd-sin 8hrs is barely bearable. I can't imagine a 23hr leg. Spend a couple hundred extra dollars and go with a full service carrier. Also if you're checking in bags, and will be eating their meals, your true cost will be easily $1k+

    • I've done it at least once with no complaints for the saving!

      • How much did you save after adding meals, seats, bags etc compared to a full service carrier?

        • Meals - didn't need any in 8 hours. Seats - any random seat is fine. Bags - the minimum was enough. Drinks - just pre-drink. Water - BYO water bottle. Saved heaps

          • @Fobsessive: A true Scootnik takes an empty water bottle to the gate.

If your bottle is full or partially full, it will be confiscated by Security.

At SIN, after clearing Security at the gate, you queue with other Scootniks outside the ladies toilets where there is a water bubbler.

With a full bottle of free water, you can wash down the no name muelsi bars inside the plane. As food is not allowed to be taken aboard, you have to hide the fact that you are eating no name muelsi bars from the FAs.

            • @klrrider1: as long as you are mildly discrete (don't bust out a hot take away spaghetti bolognese the minute the seat belt light goes off after takeoff) the flight attendants don't really care where your food came from … you are less than 1% of their problem if you smile and engage with them nicely.

  • Scoot? No thanks. Rather pay a little more and go on a full service carrier.

  • Scoot allows 10 kg carryon with a cabin bag of certain dimensions. These dimensions are slightly larger than a Jetstar carryon bag.

At the Nothing over Rp 100,000 Shop in Kuta, Bali, you can buy a Tommy Hilfinger bag for Rp 100,000. This bag has the exact Scoot dimensions.

You can identify a Scootnik by the bag they carry.

  • To be fair - nowadays I fly Scoot without seat selection or checked bags - I was alright. The only country where I will buy a lot and carry a lot back to OZ is Japan or Vietnam, in this case Chinese airlines / VietJet is the way to go because their 2 checked bags are free or so cheap you will not care. Fly Scoot with checked bags and seat selection will be more expensive than Chinese airlines - could be the same as SQ in some dates - and they are for fools in this case. Just a tip, Scoot like to keep the lights on throughout the whole night flight - may be as a thief deterrent - so BYO eye shades is a must.
