Advice Needed - Mini PC for Basic Web Browsing/Office Usage

Hello Bargainers,

Im a bit of a loss on the micro-pc market but essentially the case scenario is to replace a very outdated Touch Screen AIO for my grandma. Im just after something that is reasonably snappy but trying not to get caught up and overspending like $600.

Budget Ideally is $300 ish but happy to spend more if it means something really really good.

Usages will be the following:

  • Browsing Youtube+Facebook and Facebook games (usually has like 5 tabs open).
  • Listening to music (so an Audio Jack for speakers would be great otherwise Ill buy a USB-Hub and some speakers).
  • Using Gmail/Emails.
  • For basic office usage if needed incase my Neices need to use it for school work or if they want to play some games or somesort possibly.

Some options I was looking at:

Thank you!

  • You can consider a refurbished one

Maybe an all in one. Though personally I don’t recommend them. I would get seperate box and screen.

If you browse those sites you will find other deals
Try to get 10 gen or higher. 16gb and an ssd
Don’t do the upgrade option of ssd. It’s cheaper to buy another ssd and put it in. They are not expensive or hard to install.

    Then just buy a screen

    • Yep im fairly good with the tech side of things, I guess its more so just not knowing whats good value or not.

I feel the BOSGAME P4 is good cause its 8c 16t, but also low tdp and the Ryzen graphics I felt were always decent. I know the recommendations are for the Dell, but just worried with the older Intel CPU's being 6c6t etc

IMO I'd go the ryzen. I had a 9500T based Dell micro in my office and I just found it slow or needing to tweak things that I'm not used to doing with my work laptop or gaming PC.

Teams was awful (because it's an awful unoptimised mess), youtube music/video playback would sometimes kick the fan into high gear, and it would just feel generally slow. I had to spend the time looking at what was utilising the CPU and fix it, something I'd prefer not to do. I had 16GB RAM and an nvme ssd so it wasn't that.

In the end I used it as an excuse to build a desktop, but it was annoying enough to push me to that point.

      • Just curious is 8c cpu and 16gb ram the bare minimum nowadays ? Non gaming

we have 40+ of these Mini Dells at work, and found them extremely reliable

Yeah, this is more than enough to keep Nana going for the next 10 years.

      • Im also just thinking for the kids if they want to play things like Roblox or maybe a low res Fortnite or something, which is why I was leaning towards the Ryzen chipsets.

My kids play Roblox fine on mini Dells like the one linked

Can't your phone do all that stuff?

Its for my grandma? Who prefers and feels more comfortable using a computer with a larger screen.

I also vote for Dell Optiplex, bought one myself for Youtube, Movies, Anime and it can play roblox back up if my kids need some time on it
