Was seeking a SSD for laptop and found this deal.

Not a bad price for a proper TLC DRAMless SSD which will be fine running in laptop.

5yrs warranty and 600TBW.

Mod Edit: Requires StudentBeans for $20 off $80 Spend.

Kingston NV3 1TB on Amazon AU for $83; believe it is slightly better spec wise but 2 years less warranty

    • +3

      320TBW, unfortunately.

It literally doesn't matter for 99.99 % of people.

        • +2

Fair point. I had my Proxmox hat on as I had been researching a high TBW NVMe this morning.

NV3 is using QLC vs SN5000 is using TLC.

      • Technically, whether SN5000 is TLC or QLC depend on the size (the 4TB version is QLC).

NV3 1TB has multiple hardware versions, could be TLC or QLC (so indicating it is definitely QLC is not accurate either).

        • NV3 500GB are all TLC

NV3 1TB are TLC or QLC

NV3 2TB and up are all TLC

    • It is now $69.30 using the same codes on ebay centrecom

  • Is PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 recommended for a gaming pc storage expansion?
    TIA.

    • +2

      Yep it should be fine.

      • Does it require a heatsink if fixed to a gaming pc?

  • Any recs for a SSD for laptop? Looking for good balance between speed & power efficiency, and don't mind paying a few extra dollars if justified.

    • This one has been decent for laptop already

I think this just makes it as a PS5 nvme drive

    • +2

Slightly below 5500MB/s based on the specs sheet for the 1TB. Strangely, the 4TB QLC version is rated 5500MB/s max sequential read.

I've used an under spec'd NVMe SSD on my PS5 for years, only recently changed it to Lexar NM790 (bought too many SSDs back in 2023 due to FOMO).

      • Did you have any performance issues using the under spec’d SSD on PS5? Do you recommend buying this? I am thinking to extended my PS5 storage.

You probably need a heatsink to cover the SSD. When you are moving or downloading the game files, the SSD will be likely to get hot at the controller chip and NAND flash. SN5000 will probably be fine at speed but likely gonna thermal throttling under stress in the small chamber in PS5.

          SSD Heatsink example:

  • Can this be stacked with 10% shopback cashback starting later today?

  • If I fix this to a gaming pc would it be required to add a heat sink for this? Thanks

    • +1

A heatsink is not required but highly recommended. Without a heatsink, it will not be any issue other than when installing a huge game or any other bulk reading/writing. Attaching a heatsink can help cool the drive, providing higher maximum performance and longer life.

      • Thank you ❤️

just added STUDENTB20 to any random order and it worked

      • Yes, after I changed the browser, it started working. I changed from Firefox to Chrome, nice, nice. Thanks @bazingaa

        • +1

it worked for me in Firefox, we can use the same code twice, ordered this for $81 and 256GB RAM for $230 lol

          • @bazingaa: link for the ram modules u boguth pls ?

            • +1

@ssd01: It was LRDIMM DDR4, though, which might not suit you

              • @bazingaa: thanks , maybe not work with a HP Z4 G4 Workstation i7-7820X that can go upto 128gig

                • +1

@ssd01: yes, your CPU only supports DDR4 DIMM, both RDIMM and LRDIMM are not supported. I recently picked up a HP DL380 G9 with dual Xeon 2650 v3 for $230, so I got 2 sets of that 256GB to make it 512GB.

  • has it ended already? I can only get it down to $81

    • Centrecom removed the extra 5% discount when you added to the cart. Will update that now.
