Why? Because the truth hurts ?

Are you telling me you are temporarily unable to enjoy a franchise about little kids waving wands, riding broomsticks, and yelling magic words?

I hope you'll be able to find some alternative plastic action figures or picture books that you can enjoy in the meantime.

        • +18

I’m sure you research and verify the backstory of every author, director, developer, actor and producer before you consume any of their content, right?

          • @EitherWayUp: I just avoid funding people who are needlessly cruel. They usually do the work of making themselves known.

Would you like me to link you to the specific logical fallacy you were using just there or are you going to go find it yourself?

            • @DanielBaird: Cruel.. she literally doesn’t want men using females toilets. A very fair argument.

        • Calling someone 'terrible' who doesnt believe in your delusions is WILD

        • +2

You do realise she didn't make this game herself?

There were thousands of people who likely don't share her opinion or viewpoints who worked hard on this game.

          • @stenchlord: Right, and it’s probably a pretty good game. That’s why it’s kinda sad she didn’t sell to Universal when it came up a few years ago

            • @DanielBaird: Poor bloke hates women and had to burn his whole collection once he found out the J easnt short for John

    • +4

JK is a Legend. Cope better.

      • -3

She is working towards eliminating an entire group of people in the UK and is meeting with significant success. Trans people are fleeing the country as refugees and the massive spike in violence against trans and queer people is directly attributable to her anti-trans bigotry and well funded lawfare and constant, obsessive and relentlessly cruel campaigning. She is a terrible, evil person.

        • Love to see a source of what you said?

    • This is one of those separate the art from the artist moments.

None of what JK's been dragged for appears in their writing, from what I can tell.

      • +1

While not a fan of or having read the franchise, I'm led to believe that there are several bathroom-related moments that are to varying degrees problematic and directly stand in contradiction of her stated views about such things in more recent comments (and have witnessed some moments in the films).

In addition to this, she freely tells people that she will use her revenue from the IP to fund the anti-trans movement, and that commitment seems to extend far beyond the normal percentage of charitable and/or political donation.

It's not something you really can separate because of how overtly hateful her current view is, as opposed to a consequence of the times or an unintended view.

        • Im a big fan of the works, and not of her personal views.

None of the bathroom scenes in her (HP) works strike as problematic, without really stretching for it.

Theres a voyeur ghost in one, but its also heavily hinted that its just trolling (because the ghost cant do anything).

It's not something you really can separate because of how overtly hateful her current view is

Honestly, I'd find living with that world view to be a very negative mindset to exist in.

Plenty of people drive volkswagens (Nazi), use the Internet (DARPA), wear Adidas or Puma (outspoken nazi brothers), GPS (cold war missile tech); the list could go on.

I understand some people can't separate why/how a thing exists from the thing itself, but one author whos views I dont agree with is one of the least 'evil sources' of things many of us enjoy daily, IMO.

          • -1

@MasterScythe: It's rare for a piece of technology to have the ability to normalise sexual abuse against a boy while said inventor claims women need to be protected from transwomen in bathrooms because she believes they aren't women, and to have that kind of high-level social impact, outside of maybe poorly-moderated social media and content platforms.

It's not the greatest tragedy in existence, but we can make a simple decision to not be so beholden to one brand or property that refuses to do anything about it.

Just so it’s clear to me, I just want to recap what you’re trying to say… so the lady appears to be the epitome of a left leaning political activist , she established the Volant Charitable Trust in 2000, and co-founded the charity Lumos in 2005 which centres on medical causes and supporting at-risk women and children. And in 2025, Forbes estimated that her charitable giving exceeded US$200 million. And, she has also donated to Britain's Labour Party, and opposed Scottish independence and Brexit - aka left wing poster child… but making public remarks about transgender people, in opposition to the notion that gender identity differs from birth sex is too far and now she’s a far right evil person and deserves to be condemned and boycotted. Did I get that right?

      • +3

They are eating themselves. Let them feast.

      • -2

Sure I’ll help you with clarity. Everything you just typed about what you think I said was stuff you made up yourself. You seem to be kind of angry about the stuff you made up, which is weird.

Since you didn’t get it right, here’s what I said: I won’t buy this game because it’s part of JKR’s intellectual property. I didn’t say it but the reason is that she is deliberately, publicly, unapologetically cruel to people and has promised to fund more actions that are cruel to people.

I haven’t called for a boycott, I didn’t call her far right, and I didn’t call her evil; that’s stuff you got from Sky News or something and decided to react to here. Take a few deep breaths before you start typing next time

        • +2

lol no. I know what you were getting at and so did many here to negged you. For the record, you don’t like to consume her products because she has an opinion. A opinion that conflicts with your little brainwashed narrow minded viewpoint of yours. I’m not here to tell you you’re wrong, but rather that you’re a hypocrite. And she’s entitled to her opinion and there’s nothing you can do about it and if you don’t like it go suck on a lemon. Here’s why.
          1. The stuff I said above are facts backed up by multiple sources regarding her philanthropy, political opinion and stance. They’re reported widely. It’s not an opinion.
          2. A cornerstone of western democracy is freedom of speech. What I fail to understand is how is it that you have a right to say what you said above but she doesn’t have the right to express her opinion. Most people believe in freedom of speech as long as it is in agreement with their own opinion and suits them. Freedom of speech goes out the window the moment someone expresses opinion you don’t agree with. Try believing in freedom of speech in the face of things you don’t agree with. Now wouldn’t that be a sight.
          3. While you were not direct about what you were referring to, it was obvious what you were attempting to say. And I’m here to say she wasn’t offensive about what she said, she wasn’t there to hurt, and she wasn’t being obnoxious. She was merely expressing her opinion which she is entitled to do. So don’t tell me what I don’t know cuz I know full well what you meant and what you were referring to and everyone here knows what you meant by your original comment. And for the record:
          4. She is a left leaning centrist author who simply doesn’t believe in ghosts, aliens witches and wizards and made up pronouns. After all she just made up a whole story about fake stuff and she has every right to express it. so when you come here and attempt to cry wolf about being hurt about things she said, no one is going to believe you.
          5. Lastly if we go by your measure, we should all stop reading books and watch movies and media cuz we don’t agree with the opinions of the creators.
          6. Come back to reality

          • @foreverphoenix: You’re still not reading before you type.

I said “Everything you just typed about what you think I said was stuff you made up” and you reacted like I was critiquing your other claims.

I said it was the cruelty that I cared about and you reacted like I said it was her opinion.

I haven’t said anything about censorship but you blathered on about freedom of speech.

It’s clear you just want to lecture some made-up person about opinions that you decided they have, okay sure king go off. I hope one day you gain the clarity of thought you think you have now

She is working towards eliminating an entire group of people in the UK and is meeting with significant success. Trans people are fleeing the country as refugees and the massive spike in violence against trans and queer people is directly attributable to her anti-trans bigotry, funding of bigoted lawfare cases and constant, obsessive and relentlessly cruel campaigning to demonise and scapegoat the entire trans community.

Would you excuse her horrific behaviour if she were demonising gay people? How about black people? Bigotry is bigotry, doesn’t matter who the scapegoat is, the moral crime is the same, and it is obvious that anti-trans bigotry is a very slippery slope to other kinds of right wing oppression of minorities cuz broader queer safety and freedom in the UK is cratering.

        • False. There’s no evidence of transgender people fleeing the uk or any evidence including empirical evidence of this being linked to her words. Check your facts before crying wolf. Sorry, but that’s is simply not true at all. And her views btw aren’t that harsh either if you dissect it with an open mind. She’s not being a bigot about it. She’s actually presenting a coherent open minded and scientific approach to the issue. Yes she’s somewhat against them but it appears to me she’s not doing this out of ignorance like some do. She’s merely expressing some concerns. She’s entitled to her opinion. More importantly, she’s not calling for violence persecution or any violation of human rights of anyone. Once you dissect it, with an open mind I’m sure you’ll be more understanding

          • @foreverphoenix:

More importantly, she’s not calling for violence persecution or any violation of human rights of anyone.

I object to the vast majority of her assertions, but thats a big thing for me.
Almost everything she says that's 'bad' reads more like a biology over ontology preference, rather than outright hate.
Knowing her history of suffering domestic abuse and sexual assault, It's likely fear.

Whats strange is her usual criticisers often aknowledge that fear, saying she is likely "transphobic", but then attack her for it.
Phobias are not something people choose, they're abnormal, and irrational by definition.

Even more interesting to me, is that many can't see how susceptible she is to trolling.
Her comments go from Quora to 4chan level sooo easily, yet zero of her IRL interviews do.
With the right set of triggers you can get the most zen person to come at you with a chainsaw.
When you have literally thousands of trigger attempts and not just 1 persons worth; it's even easier.
She hasn't realised she's being farmed yet, and its not doing her any favors…

    Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo Anti-Tampering

Damn it. Still? Learn from Sonic, and remove it now the mass hype has passed.

Kernel Level monitoring can take a hike.

    • +1

Only kernels I want monitored are the ones in my microwave popcorn maker

      • It's more exciting if you don't measure and don't monitor though, kinda like Schrodinger's cat except with popped corn. Will I come back to an amount of popcorn that my cooking facilities could manage, or, will I come back to complete chaos and a mess?

    • Just speculation, but some games have it as a subscription and some get it permanently. Either that or they keep paying for it after demands from executives.

MGSV still has its Denuvo lol

      • Whats even more frustrating is that it doesn't NEED to have it at all; proven since It's got a GOLD rating on ProtonDB, so I can just play it on Linux and ignore Denuvo.

  • 28 upvotes and not on the main page? Why not?

so much hate from people you'd assume would be fans of make-believe worlds.

Trans people have existed for all of human history and are a normal part of human gender expression. Indigenous peoples have recognised them for tens of thousands of years. This is nothing new, your opposition is manufactured by far right ideologues and you’re showing that you don’t have the independent thinking skills to escape their webs. Sad.

      • +1

Coercing children that can not consent into taking puberty blockers that have debilitating lifelong consequences and into extreme surgeries to remove perfectly healthy sexual organs has not existed for long. It's contemporary, predatory and barbaric.
