@Jimothy Wongingtons - what a great way to start FriYay.

FYI everyone should be informed. 3x the daily recommended amount of vitamin B6 in one can alone. Stay safe kings

Great advice.. also these things are not good for your heart.. so if you have heart issues that run in the family avoid.

"Eat mcdonalds and smoke cigarettes all day and nobody bats an eye, but crack a can of monster and suddenly everyone's a doctor"..

Just joshing, but the main danger is the sugar in the non sugar free ones though surely

      • Caffiene levels aside and sugar aside the B6 came from nowhere. Some people are getting really sick and ruining their organs.

      • I'd argue the carcinogenic artificial sweeteners in the sugar free ones are worse than good old sugar…

      • -2

Yeah, 38% increase of getting diabetes if you have 1 a day

        https://www.monash.edu/news/articles/one-can-of-artificially…

        • Correlation isn't causation.

"Drinking one or more of these beverages each day – whether sweetened with sugar or artificial substitutes – was linked to a significantly higher chance of developing type 2 diabetes."

That is helpful really? People who drink a Coke in their life also die at some point, drinking Coke is 100% death rate.

They aren't suggesting any actual pathway that this can happen, just people who drink a diet drink get higher rates because those people are often looking to lose weight and already high risk for diabetes. Who is even funding these studies, what a waste of money.

These drinks are literally water, carbonation, caffeine, sugar/artificial sugar. They are no different to coffee. Don't know why everyone thinks they are the anti-christ.

      • Nah bro, comment on Ozbargain and suddenly everyone's a doctor.

50mg/day is the considered safe limit.

      Monster has 4.3mg per can.

I'm not saying it's necessary to put this into energy drinks, but these stories from the main stream media are blowing it way out of proportion, like always.

      • Its still overall bad that they're throwing B6 in everything because you could easily chug a few of these back, a protein RTD, and a non-B vitamin formula that randomly has B6 in it. There is no reason that every product should throw B6 in it, and its quite possible to hit 50mg if you happen to unknowingly consume B6 from like 5 places because they seem to be putting it everywhere.

I checked the back of a "Swisse Zinc+" supplement I had been taking and found that it had 30mg of B6 in it! I saw it had B6 but given it was mainly advertising itself as Zinz/Magnesium and didn't directly mention B-vitamins on the front of it at all, I didn't expect 20x the RDI…

        • I think "chugging a 'few' (3+ ?) of these back" and exceeding the recommended maximum caffine per day is the bigger problem in this scenario…

      • The RDI is 1.3. Why are we even considering 50mg a day is ok?

      1️⃣ Vitamin B6

      Per can: 4 mg

      Upper safe limit: 100 mg/day

      4 mg/day×365 days/year×50 years=4×18,250=73,000 mg (73 g total over 50 years)

      Observation:

Daily intake (4 mg) is well below the 100 mg/day limit, so no risk of toxicity.

Even over 50 years, your daily intake never exceeds safe levels. ✅

      2️⃣ Caffeine

      Per can: ~160 mg

      Daily intake: 160 mg

Recommended max daily: 400 mg for healthy adults

      Lifetime total:

      Observation:

Daily intake stays below 400 mg → safe for most adults.

Long-term: Monitor for heart issues, high blood pressure, or insomnia, especially if you consume caffeine elsewhere.

      ⚡ Summary
Component Daily Lifetime (50 years) Safety Notes
Vitamin B6 4 mg 73 g Safe, far below toxicity limit
Caffeine 160 mg 2.92 kg Safe daily, watch overall caffeine intake
      Sugar 0 g 0 g Safe
      Calories ~15 kcal ~273,750 kcal (~365 days × 50 years × 15 kcal) Minimal impact

      Conclusion:

Drinking 1 can daily for 50 years is unlikely to cause vitamin B6 or caffeine toxicity.

Long-term risks are mostly related to caffeine sensitivity, sleep disruption, and dental health, not vitamins.

      • The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has reported over 170 cases of vitamin B6 toxicity, including conditions like peripheral neuropathy, small fibre neuropathy, and chronic polyneuropathy. Symptoms of these conditions can include numbness, pain, muscle weakness, and coordination issues. Notably, nerve damage has been observed at daily doses below 50 mg of vitamin B6, which is significantly higher than the RDI.

  • I wanna try a flavor that isn't Zero Ultra. Thoughts on Mango Loco or Pipeline Punch?

    • +2

Mango loco is amazing, essentially a nice fizzy mango drink and is my go-to (alongside mango fiesta)

Pipeline punch is also pretty good, but personally prefer mango loco much more

      • +1

Noted I'll grab mango loco. I might mix it up another flavor in case it gets boring as a daily driver.

      • +1

Yeah I like mango loco. Quite sweet but tastes good.

    • Definitely my favourite flavour. Would recommend trying.

    • Mango Loco is so ridiculously sweet it's undrinkable to me. It's like undiluted cordial. Pipeline punch is much better.

    • I love Pipeline Punch - a sweet fruit flavour that is kinda hard to describe!

$10 off a purchase of $59 or more on “eligible items” made in the Amazon App when they use the promotional code HAPPY10 (“Offer”). The Offer ends at 11.59pm (Sydney time) on 29/08/25.

    • Yeah nice, saw this too. Switched over to the app and applied it. 2 slabs $86 delivered.

  • I wish they would stock 24 packs of the Papillon flavour. Had a friend get me onto them and now I have been cracking one every weekend for a treat, its easily one of the best soft drink flavours I have ever tried. $1.80 a can is incredible value.

    • They usually do. Just out at the moment.

      https://amzn.asia/d/hHFynfF

      • Come on Amazon, I will buy multiple slabs at this price, just get them in stock. Over the last few months whenever I have searched them up, Amazon haven't seemed to have them in stock ever. I have been tempted to pay the ridiculous prices ($70-80) of online distributors just to get these things a bit cheaper than the rubbish price that Woolies and Coles call a 'sale'. In saying that, I did just grab 3 of them today at $3 each from Coles like a fool.

        • They definitely had them 2 weeks ago when they last went to this price. I almost got them but decided not to and went with something else. I like Papillon, not love.

          • @BradH13: Damn, maybe I have just been unlucky with my timing on them. I'll have to check it more often and see if I can get lucky next time they drop in price.

  • +1

I really want to buy this but having a case in my house is like an addict having their problem substance in the house and trying to resist it. I prefer to drip feed myself with supermarket sales even if it costs me more money.

    • +1

I have 3 cases in my house at all times… I think my courier hates me.

I drink 3-4 cans a day and was doing that even before I started buying cases, so works out for me.
