I wouldn't call it rigged, there its simply a fixed amount of each key piece.
Let's say that the "Major grand awesome prize" is limited to one only. That means there there will only the one Boardwalk in all of Australia.

I always used to imagine some old lady throwing out a chip/drink packet that had Wonkas golden ticket attached to it….lost forever.
As a kid I also use to imagine stealing a jumbo box of Monopoly fries/cup packaging as the ultimate heist.
It certainly has been rigged in the past in the USA and I have no doubt it still is here at some level, whether McDonalds head office knows or not. No one would admit even now if they knew it was rigged. There are just too many people involved right from printing tickets to delivering winning packaging to restaurants. How can it not be rigged?

Yep! Won a 2500 flight centre travel voucher. This was back in 2020, so was mostly useless given Covid, and then the ridiculous plane fight costs immediately after.
There is a very interesting story about fraud in 2001, by the company the McDonalds company asked to run the scheme where their security officer stole all the valuable pieces. Well worth reading up on.

HJ's ran their own monopoly game about 20 years ago. I won an all expenses paid trip (with a +1) to the Rugby World cup, plus the gala dinner the night before, plus breakfast the next day with David Campese.

The thing is, this promotion sees many, many more entrants than your average trade promotion - so the chances of you knowing someone that's won a major are small.
I'd imagine a lot of the majors have been given away as second chance prizes.
This. I won a small cash prize from the second chance draw going back about 20 years or so. You had to physically enter the second chance draw back then so the chances of winning something were better. These days, everyone gets automatically entered so it’s basically another lottery.
I'm happy just to win free passes for kids entertainment that is usually pretty expensive eg Sealife, Bounce.
Best I've done is I won a bike and and a bunch of board games. The best part was the app glitched, so every time I went to maccas I would get a free cheesburger and large chips. This lasted two years.
During this time I cleaned up on the monopoly. And the kicker was that every time i went there, it processed the transaction as if I had spent the money and so gave the bonus points to get more stuff.
I won a $1000 Visa Prepaid Debit Card around 2003. They have got my money back many times over since.
Watch McMillions documentary series. Very interesting doco about how it was rigged in the States a while ago. I’m sure similar things happen here, but who knows. When there’s money/prizes to win, there’s always someone looking to scam it

It feels like the opposite for me. A massive conspiracy for sure but they'd have more control of where each ticket goes since they'd be account bound from the start.

I just read the pdf mcdonald's released for the monopoly competition rules and it mentions a printed digital code.
The pdf also shows the prize pool and the amount of prizes to be won, and the prices of the prizes, if anyone is interested.

Just look around… a few Google searches would have given you all enough information to know just how much of a scam Monopoly at Mcdonalds really is but I guess keep the dislikes coming because hey… Wouldn't want to prevent a fellow Australian from being scammed.

I hit level 2. Do you get a chance card? I can’t find it. Interesting note on bottom saying you may lose your achievements if you log out and log back in. The app logs me out randonly >:(

Anyone else having to wait a while to be sent their gift card prize? Won a $10 JB gift card and hasn't been sent still after half an hour or so. I doubt I did but a little worried I messed up the email when entering details.

Correct, it’s now 100% digital. You need to provide your MyMacca’s code at the kiosk or counter or you order via the MyMacca’s app. At least there is no more physical food prizes that need to be redeemed at the counter but there are other downsides like not being able to pinch unused ones off other people’s rubbish.
