  • Hi everyone 👋 Happy to answer any questions about the mugs, customisation (name, year, message), or shipping. These are all Aussie-printed and ship free across Australia. 🎓

How does this compare with the Officeworks mug? What am I getting for the 3x price tag?

Thanks for the question! Fair call on comparing with Officeworks. Their $9 mugs are more like basic photo prints with limited colours and no custom text. Ours are designed as proper graduation keepsakes — you can add name, year, or message. They’re Aussie-printed on premium ceramic, microwave safe, dishwasher safe (hand wash recommended), and include free tracked shipping. Officeworks is good for a cheap photo mug, but these are meant to be personalised gifts that last.

Thanks for the response (didn't neg your comment btw).

What does premium ceramic mean and how is it better than the mug at OW?

The OW mug is a photo print, so it can have pretty much any design you like.

      • Oops, I posted my answer just below as a separate comment — replying here so it’s clearer 🙂

  • This doesn't really appear to be a bargain. Looks more like just using OzB for free adz.

As mentioned above, Officeworks mug is $9.

    • Totally fair point – $9 OW mugs are great if you just want a quick photo print. Ours are more of a gift/keepsake option with custom text (name, year, message), premium ceramic, and free tracked shipping. It’s a different lane really, but I get the comparison.

I usually go for the photo mugs from Kmart. $6 plain and $8 for 2 tone. You can click and collect for no cost.
They are 11 oz and you can add photos and text. You could include a graduation photo to make it even more personalised.

    • Yep, Kmart is handy for quick DIY photo mugs, especially click & collect. Ours are aimed at those who don’t want to spend time designing or formatting — you just add your name/year and it’s done. Plus we’ve got over 900+ pre-made designs (Aussie themes, pets, Christmas, graduation, etc.) so you don’t start from scratch.

  • Thanks for the follow-up, Dan! By premium ceramic we mean the mugs are heavier-grade with a glossy finish, built for daily use (microwave safe, dishwasher safe – though we recommend hand wash). The key difference is the personalisation – you can add a name, year, or message. If you’ve got time you can design your own, but if you’re busy with graduation prep you can just drop in your details and you’re ready to go.

On top of that, we’ve got 900+ niche designs outside of graduation, including Aussie themes – like our best-selling: Coffee, Repeat – Melbourne Tram Mug

Wtf a mug starting at $27? Probably made for 50 cents.

  • +2

IS IT A DEAL??? OR ADS

  • +2

What sort of a mug would pay $27 for a mug?

  • Totally fair points — Officeworks and Kmart are great if you’re after a plain bulk-printed mug. Our mugs are Aussie-printed individually with your custom name, year, or message, and include free tracked shipping. They’re designed as keepsakes rather than just a cheap cup. So yes, you’ll always find a cheaper basic mug — but for a personalised graduation gift that actually lasts, that’s where ours fit in 🙂

Kmart and Officeworks mugs are also printed locally, often in the same store. They also last a long time.

How is your printing any different from them? Curious to know.

      • Because you can customise the custom print seems to be the response.

I've got a hardly normal one that was part of a deal here once upon a time that's still going strong, only gets handwashed but it's still alive and my poor choice of image is still visible

Thanks for the question, Harry! You’re absolutely right — Kmart and Officeworks are perfect if you just need a cheap photo mug. Mug Spot is more in the space of Etsy or Amazon personalised gifts — custom names, graduation years, and unique designs. It’s less about a $9 everyday cup and more about a keepsake that feels special.

We’ve also expanded beyond graduation — from best friend mugs to magic heat-changing mugs with witchy vibes

Are you using ChatGPT for your replies?

          • @WatchNerd: Haha no, just me here - promise I’m a real human. Trying to answer as best I can while running the store. If my replies sound polished it’s probably too much coffee ☕

    • With the Kmart mug I can truly customise because they are my own photos. According to the Kmart site there are 101 different options with the layout and messages.

      • That’s a great point. Kmart photo mugs are perfect if you want to upload your own pictures and spend time playing with layouts. Where Mug Spot is different is in the ready-to-go designs — graduation keepsakes, best friend quotes, Aussie themes, even magic heat-changing mugs. You just drop in a name or year and the order takes less than 5 minutes. If you’ve got plenty of free time, Kmart is the way to go — but if you want something quick, personal, and gift-ready, that’s where we fit in🙂
