  • 430 km range 😐

it's actually 362 range when "dynamic" is chosen

    • Real world the Inspire is about 362km, but hills, headwinds, the cold and other things can reduce that figure, so it's probably something EV sellers should explain a bit better in my view. But the range really depends on your driving distances, but for city and occasional 200km round trips on the freeways it's been great. Apprently a Geely has a car due that is a hybrid that gets 80km on electric and totals out to a range of about 900kms, which I think will appeal more to the Australian market who still has a bit of range concern.

      • +1

        Yes heard about this.

Also, there are a lot of hybrids advertising their range. Since when did we bother about range of a vehicle fitted with an ICE? (Whether or not there is an electric motor attached to it). Just didn't look like a valid advertising point for me. Don't know what others feel. I might be missing a point.

Obviously, range anxiety was something that crept into EV buyers minds because of charging infrastructure deficiencies, applying that to something which existed for decades and no one even cared about seems a little misleading.

I remember a version of Toyota Land cruiser which used to swap out the spare tire on the rear for extra fuel capacity and if I am correct, it had a fuel capacity of around 130 litres… Imagine the range that would have!

I have a 10 yr old Passat with a 70 litre fuel tank…. We drove from Sydney to Melbourne and got just above 1100km out of one tank fill.

I don't know, but in my mind when someone advertises range in a vehicle with an engine, I find it funny.

Does this needs regular service? Not like Tesla which no regular service is required?

    • /popcorn

    • +3

It has yearly service cycles. In the initial offer you got 3 years free service too, but they were all about 250 each, with the fourth year about $650 I think. Whether it "needs" it is probably a different question, but seems reasonable for a yearly check in to ID anything of concern.

    Hey Everyone,

I work at Geely Peninsula here in Frankston ( Melbourne ) This months offer is very strong. We have already taken some orders today because of it, and hope to put some more EX5 and the new Starays on the road. The offer is already fantastic but if you mention you have seen this comment on Ozbargain, youll get another $500 off your purchase if you call through come and see me to buy one.

    Thanks

    • Can you throw in floor mats and window tint too?

      • +7

        Hey Sean,

If i throw in those are you coming down to buy a car? :P

        • I've changed my mind. Will wait for the Starship 7 to compare first. Do you have insider info if those are still scheduled to arrive this month?

    • +2

Any news on the updated 68.39kWh battery pack for the EX5? Quite keen.

      • wont be coming this year to Aus. probably march 2026. That is what the dealer told me

        • +3

          Thanks for the reply!

      • What real world range will that give you?

        • No clue, they advertise 610KM with the very lenient CLTC range. Hoping this would be close to 500KMs real world range.

          • @HeuroMeuro: Its only an extra 8kWh.. so you're looking at a real world range of maybe 450ks at best

      • No news, probably not until next year

    • -1

My ex5 is just 3 days old.. any chance I get these as goodwill?

      • +6

They got yo money already :P

    • Can the EX5 be sideloaded and warranty won't be voided?

      • Does it still allow app sideloading?

  • How's the car's software though?

  • I just bought one on last Thursday.. ☹️☹️

    • +2

Same! Now I feel that our inclusions were the worst (only charging cable), but I love the car )

      • Yep amazing car and service/sales person was good as well.. agree with the inclusion part as well.. will hit the sales tomorrow and see if hes still a good boy 🤪

        • Would be nice to know how you go!

    • +1

I thought the deal in August was better. They had $2000 increased trade in price. 3.88% financing which actually worked out to be 2.9% or lower depending on how much you borrow.

Managed to get free 3 year service,leather/colour protection, floor mats. Was a demo with 2k Kms on it so premium paint/tint included.

Wall charger is more suited for single phase homes. Cable is usually not long enough. Evie one is handy but if you have solar then it doesn't mean much.

      • Did it depend on the location? The financing didnt apply in my case due to car being registered on a relatively new business..

Tradein wasnt mentioned anywhere.. i mean the increased price

        • +1

possibly location based? Im not sure as there is only one dealership in Perth (Couple just opened recently). The $2000 trade in was advertised on Geely website of the dealership.

Sales rep did say it was a busy month for them because many people were taking advantage of the financing.

      • Actually, you’re right — we did get the $2000 trade-in bonus, which was really handy!

Did you end up using their financing? We asked for a quote, but honestly, with all the extra fees, it didn’t seem worth it. It worked out to be pretty similar to a personal loan from any bank.

        • How much financing did you ask for? It depends on the amount u borrow. Interest is fixed but the fees and other costs came to be about $1570. For me it worked out to be 2.9% per year. 3 year term, $30k borrowed. Put money in savings and earn interest instead.

      • How did the trade in bonus work? Could you hypothetically trade in a shitbox $2000 car and then they give you extra 2K. So you actually get $4K trade in value???

    • Didn't you negotiate the price? People have been getting the Inspire for $44.5k d/a just a couple of months ago.

  • Put deposit in May, picked up in June. Very happy about it.

  • Could you buy car and then do a novated lease on it?

    • +3

you should be able too but you wont get the GST benefits. and i believe they will evaluate your cars worth on market value and not brand new car value but I am not 100% sure on that.

  • Android auto?

    • Currently scheduled as January 2026, but Apple carplay was just released in the recent update.

    • Android Auto works through Head Unit Reloaded app on mine

      • How did you get it working? Car linkbit app?

        • +1

          Sideloaded it

  • +4

Just bought inspire last week. Haggled 2.2k off asking price (thanks to a motor scout quote they mostly matched) and had granny chargers, mats and 3 years free servicing included. I got through novated lease. Total was about 46.5k driveaway in SA with black paint ($600 extra).

Very happy with the car. 4g and app still aren't activated though. Bit of confusion with who is responsible sorting this out. Also wish Android auto was available, but at least there is carplay.

    • Great price. How does the 4G work? Is unlimited data included?

      • 2gb a month I believe but read somewhere they are increasing it. Can use it for spotify/ota updates/maps/audible etc. Wouldn't really need it if they had android auto though!

    • That's a good price. If I'm understanding it correctly, you negotiated the price along with extras and gave the price to NL? I got a quote from my NL (Lease plan) and they set the base price at $40,900 + on road cost for Inspire. No extras just the car.

      • +1

Yes our novated lease provider (Maxxia) allowed us to negotiate directly. You just need to forward them a copy of the contract and they'll organise the settlement. I've heard this also removes a "procurement fee" but not really sure how much that is.

I also used the motorscout service to get a good quote which the dealer matched. Was worth it for the few k in savings.

        • +1

Thanks! I'll give it a shot.

    • I'm also investigating the novated lease option, and I'm very new to leasing process overall. So did you just just basically find the best price through motorscout and then just take that to your leasing company and let them take it from there? Or did you negotiate directly with the dealership using your quote, and then engage the leasing company to just sort out the finances?

      • +1

Yes the latter. I got a quote from motor scout and the dealership called me to negotiate directly. I used the leverage from that quote to lower the price the dealership directly offered me. Once accepted, i just sent the contract to leasing company to organize payment.

Not sure how motorscout works if you accept their quotes, whether they have their own contracts or what.

        • Wasn't sure whether to just handball the whole process to the leasing company, but sounds like it's worthwhile shopping around first. Thanks for sharing.

          • @PurchaseAnxiety: Yes at least with geely seems to be seems some wiggle room on prices. I think the leasing company will also charge a "procurement fee" if you get them to do it

  • I bought this like a week ago, bummer! Great car though

  • I test drove this car. Do check road noise in back seat. We found it very noisy.

    • Did you test drive Complete or Inspire? Complete seems to be noisier due to cheap tyres.

    • can confirm EX5 is one of the quietest vehicles on the road, kids fall asleep immediately — agree with bargainhunter though, definitely test drive the car but be warned you will buy.

  • Almost pulled the trigger when they had the low finance and bonus trade in offer. Test drove beautifully. Lack of android auto was a deal broker though.

    • What did you buy instead?

Not that Tesla will ever actually get FSD, but will these Chinese EVs ever get FSD?

    • Are you sure about that?

      • They're probably referring to full level 5 autonomous. but yeah

    • Maybe read the update that just came

    • +2

No on both counts. Tesla has been getting FSD since 2016.

    • +1

No, these Chinese EVs don't have the hardware for FSD. They don't even have the cameras and sensors for auto parking.

      • tyty

  • This and MZ S5 is cracker deal.

  • I recall there was a calculator (spreadsheet) someone had for comparing cash v novated lease for EVs. Does any know where i can get that?

  • This is tempting, but I can't afford the depreciation.

Can anyone here please recommend a 2nd hand electric suv for three adults, two baby car seats with space for luggage/bags/shopping for about $30k? I have a 10 yr old car that I will sell to raise about $14k-$15k so will double that and buy 2nd hand. I will intend on using it for 5 years.

I'm not keen on a hybrid because I've read that it comes with all the issues of a full electric PLUS issues of an ICE, so annual servicing costs (circa $300 for my cars over the last 20 years); and a smaller cabin because of the battery PLUS engine, but am open minded. There is so much on the market I'm overwhelmed. 😭

Babies are 1 & 3 so will need the dual baby car seats in for at least another 5 years.

I can access Novated Leasing and also have an ABN. Android household.

    TIA!

    • +1

Getting any form of SUV-sized BEV for $30k is going to be a challenge, and your requirements are pretty stringent.

Also - 3 adults and 2 kids usually means 1 adult and 2 kids across the back seat, and that's going to be very tight on anything but the largest of 4wd or people mover.

      • True, true, which is fine, we will manage in the back seat. Not large people, so we can fit in fine. There are two atm, in a HATCH, so an suv will be an upgrade. We dont need 1st class leg room, just a bigger car we can multi task with.

        • IMO if you're dead set on an EV, then a used 2022 or later Model Y is your best chance at getting something that's both FBT-eligible and within your price range….but it's still probably out of your price range. Also the 3 in the back will be a bit of a squeeze if any of the kids need a car seat.

          • @klaw81: Not dead set, I'm very open to change.
Just biased towards ice, prefer them over all the Chinese competition at, which should cool down in a couple of years.

I suppose I can dip into offset but only as a last resort. Can easily pull another 10k from there. The balloon payment on novated fleecing for ice cars isn't very nice.

            One day!
