Unfortunate, need to offload some old oil still.

Beware you may need to wait 24rs to get the credit.. Aka not instant to use on the same visit.

    • Lame. Gotta drive there twice kills the deal.

I think any car battery shop will give you $10 for your old battery

    • You don't even get that much if you fill it up with water.

      • As someone else mentioned in another comment about scrapyard, I got $8 about 3 years ago from one of the car battery places. They either get about that from the battery manufacturers or some government recycling incentive.

  • +3

How much do they pay for batteries at the scrap yard?

    • I'm guessing $10, batteries are more expensive these days compared to before.
It used to be $8 a battery at scarpy when batteries were cheaper

    • +1

Similar, obviously depending on the size of the battery… an average car battery you'd be lucky to get more than 10 bucks though, so it's not a terrible deal.

    • +1

I got $8 for mine (scrap value). But I noted one battery they had was still 12.55v.
I bought that battery for $14. 5 yrs later it's still going well.

Quite a few batteries there still around 12.5v under load. No idea how they ended up there.

Went to my metal recycler last weekend and got $11.50 per battery (by weight). Standard sedan lead acid batteries.
      So more than Super Cheap.

      • Yeah not bad, however metal scrap yards have got to be one of the dodgiest business around in my experience and it's not at all unusual for prices to vary wildly between yards and depending how much the individual thinks they can rip you off… Most people are happy just to get "something" for a few old dead batteries so they have no real incentive to be competitive.

Repco offering $30 credit for a battery, only when purchasing a repco branded battery though.

It was worth holding onto the old Mazda battery for 3 years. Finally, my patience pays off.

Ahh, playing the long game, nice work.

Targeted! Received this "Want $10 credit?" email 4 days ago - only on 1 account

Ahh maybe SCA will take my Century that still has 10 months warranty left on it but fails to keep charge.
Bunch of crooks denied me and citied all sorts of policies and claimed battery tests good.
For giggles I stopped by another SCA same day for a "battery test" and was told I need to replace it.

That was the day they lost me as a customer.

    • +1

I won't touch Century ever again. I recommend Supercharge.

      • +1

Supercharge are also junk now. I recommend Panasonic.

    • +1

What's the reason or policies they provided for the warranty claim rejection? Why couldn't you process the claim at the other SCA?

    • I will never buy a Century battery again. (3 in 6 years)

I bought an Amaron and got 8 years out of it.

      Century $220
      Amaron $270

      • how can a single battery do 8 years?

        • +2

I got 12 years out of an Optima. The Panasonic AGM batteries often go 10+ years in hybrid Toyotas.

          • @JIMB0: Also just had mine do 13, albeit in an EV

  • +2

Well, off i go to the train station carpark

  • Yep - confirming it does take a while be usable credit. It loads into the account as pending credit and mine turned into actual credit approx 20 hours later.

  • +2

I didn't get an email, but I logged into my account just out of interest and clicked on "Home" scrolled down to My Offers and there was the offer for the $10 credit when you recycle your battery.

    • Yep, can confirm that’s what I got as well. Good timing, I just replaced the battery in the Ute a couple of weeks back. Beats taking it to the tip and leaving it there for nothing.

  • +1

Thanks for the tip, just moved into a place and theres an old battery left behind I need to dispose of!

  • +3

Damn, I just gave my old battery away, free of charge.

    • That must have been a positive experience for the recipient.

      • What lead you to that conclusion?

        • +2

Just trying to stay grounded in my assumptions and didn't want to draw any negative conclusions

  • Minimum size battery? Got a motorbike battery (that I use for my car - PHEV).

Just bought a LiFePo4 from AliExpress. So old battery can go (wouldn't start a bike - but has enough grunt for a PHEV - only needs to run the ECU). I'll take $10 for it.

  • +1

Definitely targeted. I only got $10-$15 credit when spending more than $50 or $100 on certain brands.

  • canwe just get $10 discount on spot

  • Clever trick, they are playing! The battery is worth more than $10. i am sure there are private buyers who would pay you more. Supercheap is buying it off of you for a song. No fee for collection vehicle which can pick this up either. Either way, the battery replacing shop do not let go of your old battery as it has scrap value unless otherwise you ask them. Even then, they are hesitant.

  • Will they take motorcycle batteries?
