    BEWARE
These cards are easy to hack. Here is how they do it.
1.Take a photo of back of card, leave it in-store.
    2. You buy it and activate
    3. Once a day the hackers with the numbers, run a script to brute force 4 digit pin (website has no captcha) so unlimited attempts. Takes 15 minutes…
    4. They spend your money before you can

    • +13

Can you post this hack as a deal please

        • +11

That video concerns TCN gift cards. Ultimate gift cards are from a completely different company.

@VantageXL: So are you sure these are safe??

            • +3

@Mortin: Nothing in this world is 100% safe but I would feel entirely comfortable buying the gift cards in this deal. A vulnerability on one gift card website doesn't mean all gift cards are unsafe.

            • -7

@Mortin: hackers putting negative remarks on my posts.. lol. normally people would applaud cause more stock for em… shows that these hackers want you to buy em.. beware people.. they linger in ozbargains too.

    • +3

I don't think websites these days allow you unlimited attempts for checking ..

      • -8

someone already did a video and was on the news.. there are vulnerabilities on all giftcards

        • What is the reason they don't cover say half the card number? And what is the chance that his/hacker account will be banned after trying many attempts.

  • -3

    Not safe.

Is this video safe to watch? It's ".be".

Everyone eventually learns about first party url shortening. Today is your day.

Ultimate and TCN cards are different, there has been no disclosed bypass with the Ultimate Gift card.

    • +3

      TCN is not Ultimate?

      They aren't the same company…

        • +2

Probably because the batch doesn't matter - the vulnerability is in the lack of a limiter on bots running a script to hard force the pin. Its all server side on TCN's behalf, not the actual physical card.

Also, these are Ultimate gift cards.

          Not TCN.

          So uh, what?

          • -5

@Pacify: zzzzzzzzzzz another american.. go watch the video… thy took pictures of the card 1st before writing the script… guessing all 16 card number + 4 digit pin would have taken much longer..

            • +3

@ruztynail: Ironic part is clearly you didn't actually watch the video….

The problem is the lack of a captcha on a way to swap the cards (which TCN have already suspended until they fix it). You can't script to find the pin if there's a captcha system.

These Ultimate cards are a completely different company…

              • -5

@Pacify: You mentioned the batch doesnt matter.. i said it does because the hacker took pictures of the back of the card to get the card no. without scratching the PIN. Captcha and different company aside..

ultimate gift cards adopts the same checking balance system too.. go try it out.. hackers might have already taken pictures of the card too.

                • +1

@ruztynail: Ultimate Gift Cards uses the my prepaid centre portal which is shit for other reasons but not because of the same vulnerability as TCN. My prepaid centre uses a captcha system for balance checks

These arent even the same cards?

      • -5

if thy can do one they can do another too… explains why apple gift card are taken away from the rack and stored behind the counters… go figure..

  • So, Can we still buy Apple Giftcards at JB-HiFi using the Ultimate Teens GC, or they patched it up as well?

    • Ooo is this possible? Would love to get the new iphone at 10% off

      • +1

Same plan, not sure if they patched it up, or its still working, It was working last year for sure when I got last gen iphone!

  • When a store says “Limit of 5 cards per customer”, how do they even enforce that? Like, is it based on the credit/debit card you pay with, or something else?

Say I grab 5, check out, then walk right back and grab another 5 — would I still get the 10% off on both, or do they usually block that somehow?

    • The only two things that can enforce the 5 per customer rule are:

      • The checkouts. The checkouts will return an error if you attempt to purchase more than five gift cards in the transaction. Obviously, the workaround for that is to split your purchase across multiple transactions.

      • Store staff. I think you can only purchase gift cards at checkouts operated by a dedicated staff member, so you have to interact with staff in order to purchase gift cards. If a staff member notices you are trying to purchase more than five gift cards, they can stop you if they want to. If you want to avoid this potential hassle with staff, the easiest things to do are (1) go to another store - assuming another ALDI is nearby - or (2) return to the same store on a different day (or when there is a change in staff operating checkouts).

I would be extremely surprised if ALDI deployed anything as sophisticated as tracking debit/credit card numbers to enforce the purchase limit, and I have never heard of that ever happening at ALDI.

      • Had no issues buying more than 5 today, came back a few hours later, and all g

  • One of my teens $30 just wouldn’t work at officeworks. Checked balance and it was fine. I guess I can only convert it to digital and use elsewhere.

    • Quite a common issue with the Ultimate GCs, the magnetic stripes are pretty poor. You can just add them to digital wallet (ie. Apple Pay) to use on the spot.

  • Does anyone know if you can convert these gift cards to Digital JB-HiFi Gift Cards like you can with the TCN ones? Ultimate have https://exchangeyourcard.com.au/ site for converting but I am not clear on whether this will convert them to actual Digital JB-HiFi Gift Cards so I can stack them at online checkout for JB.

    • +1

The Ultimate Kids and Teens gift card webpages says you can exchange those gift cards for digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards, so you should be able to go to that website you linked to and request to exchange for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card that is emailed to you.

Awesome, thank you for that. :-) Looks like I was looking in the wrong spot for that info.
