thats how thy control the market.. i'm sure there is T&C that says what the minimum amount u can sell it for. unlike ps and xbox where its free rein. they want to make is super "premium" like apple iphones too. i believe.
Not to mention the fact it originally launched on the Wii U in 2014. The additions since then are fantastic but still being this price is wild.
Game still slaps, that's why. If they put out a shit product no one would pay this for it.
There are tons of games equally as good (or better) from the same era and newer that go regularly for under $20 despite having similar launch prices.
There can't be many people actually buying this in 2025 for a price like this. It's just Nintendo trying to control market pricing from beginning to end.
Buy those ones then. One model doesn't have to apply for all companies.
@Orion au: I do, but that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to have an opinion on what I think are greedy practices from Nintendo.
I love this game, sunk many hours into it, but there's no way I'd pay that much for it in 2025.
@noisymime: I don't understand this idea of it making Nintendo 'greedy.' They've made a product, stated what they want for it and it would seem it still sells, even years later.
If it doesn't, it's ultimately them who lose out.
Why wouldn't you pay that much in 2025? If you're new to it, you could potentially get the same enjoyment from it.
@Orion au: Well for a start I can get a copy of it off marketplace for $20, at most. No idea who would buy this new these days.
I call it greed because Nintendo aren't doing this because there's still high demand, I would guess that their standalone sales on a physical copy of this game are damn near 0 these days, but because they do it to drive sales on other games. If people know that 'Nintendo never reduces their game prices' then they don't put off buying while they wait for future sales to come up. I think it's absolutely cost them sales, but it's their choice to do it that way.
The bigger problem is that now they're combining that with their push to end the secondary market, which is just beyond greedy.
@noisymime: $20? I would love to find it for that. I can't see it that cheap anywhere.
That second point still doesn't hit me as greed. It just seems like a different market strategy. By all accounts, it seems to be a pretty successful and sustainable one too.
I'm interested in that last point. What makes you think they're trying to kill off the secondary market?
MK8 is OK, it's no World, but it's not as good as Mario Kart Wii either.
Hey, it works for CoD (insert version here).
Nintendo's greed. There was a quote from the Nintendo president that he thinks gamers should pay more for "quality" or something along those lines. But not discounting hardware or having limited sales sets a price precedent for the brand. And they know gamers will pay up.
picked up for same price years ago. This is some real diablo II blizzard pricing haha
Time to let it go.
Think I'll hang on till 2030 and see if it goes under $50
With inflation you might be paying $100 instead 😝
Is there a way to play this game on PC ?
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) yes
Like is it free to download or buy from a site? Would be great if you could assist please.
Short answer:
🌊 ⛴️ 🏴☠️
This game is such a low point in the series (Driving/
Speed feel mechanics) compared to the prior versions. It looks good but that’s all it has going for it.Glad the MK world got the driving feel as it should.
What specifically about MK World makes it better for driving feel? Maybe I don't play driving games enough to notice that this was not as good a game.
Hard to actually describe it. Best I can say is mk8 feels ‘thin.’
Man Nintendo are something else. $58 for an 8 year old game on a superseded console is considered a sale.
