We've had about 3 over time and none of which we've paid for. One is even leather. A little bit of TLC and it's a perfectly good lounge chair. It's interesting how often I see these on the side of the road.
That's where they belong. When you've tried a really comfortable (and good-looking) armchair, you won't go back to a Poang.
it's perfectly fine…to fill up space in a room and occasionally sit on once a quarter but I agree, they aren't great
This is true, but it cost 3x as much.
Yeah. Fun chair to rock on, but take note of the weight limit.
Poäng Arm Chair $69
Plus $5.75 for the Glen 20…
It was 50% off during EOFY in-store, I tried it and didn't find it comfy.
IKEA recommends up to 110kg.
Around 60kg here.
I find it flimsy and hard. Feels like it's going to break anytime.
Despite its flimsy-ness it holds up really well. Mates house has had one since before COVID and they're roughly 80kg ish. Comfort wise wasn't for me either though
Meaning if two people agreeing on the asking $69, they must weight less than or equal to 110kg combined total. Otherwise someone may get hurt real bad!

(Always wanted to say that haha)
Is that the static or dynamic load? Asking for a friend.
I had one for years. I was swinging back and forth (or more up and down in this case) relentlessly and it never broke. And I'm quite heavier than you. I also found it comfortable, and large enough to be crossed-legged on it.
Poäng Arm Chair $69

Very very nice
Ah yes, the quintessential hotel room specialty.
How safe is this. I get phobia looking at its design.
Pretty good quality. I have used one for 3 years and held up well. I am about 80kg
They use to have a machine in Ikea Logan, a virtual ass, that kept a count of how many times it sat and got up from the chair. Agree the design looks dubious.
Honestly - I grew up in a household with a couple of these bought in the 80s. I still have them, and I've spent a large chunk of my life well above the weight-limit that I only just found out was there. They've never even threatened to buckle.
I honestly don't understand it, because your phobia seems entirely reasonable. But we have several around the house now, they're just so comfortable.
Edit: Oh! Those aren't the low-back version though. Not that I think that'd change much.
A great flexi chair for casual naughty fun 😅👍
It's 69 a pop
Half price for 'lowback' version ahahaha https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/poaeng-armchair-birch-veneer-kn…
That was what I got last round for 1/2 price.
Bought a few chairs in the last sale. Quite good for the price.
Out of stock in Perth store apparently
Perfect for if you enjoy the constant nagging feeling your chair is about to break underneath you (may only apply for fat bastards like me).
I got excited then I saw these are the low back ones. Full height I'd be tempted.
Same, but we only need these for spare chairs when the house is full of guests so that is their problem… or no wait, actually it’s usually me that has to sit on a fold up chair…
Thanks, OP! I got a red one for my business. If you sign up for free, you’ll get an email with a code to get $10 off. Annoyingly, I already processed the order before realising.
heh $69 ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Great chair for nursing
The Poang sold by Ikea today is a shadow of the good chair sold in the 1980s. Ikea has stripped the design back to save on manufacturing costs. But that has resulted in a significant loss of comfort. Yes, at a quick glance, they look the same but the comfort of the chair has been compromised. The Poang of the 80s had a different design of suspended seat and back that supported the chair's cushion. It was a metal frame with a strong fabric stretched over it. Today's Poang has a few wooden slats in its replacement. Making the seat harder, less supportive and because the slats are significantly spaced apart, you feel them dig into you. Also, the seat cushions themselves were about 3 times the thickness of what is sold today.
It's a shame Ikea gave up quality for profit across nearly all their product lines. So many great Ikea products destroyed for the sake of $$.

Good chair I found mine on the roadside. Wash the covers good to go.
