Aside from security, you should look into who owns these VPNs. I was alarmed when I looked into it. Disturbing.
Appear like they do everything right nowadays except for collecting data for marketing purposes, collected exclusively when using the App. I personally recommend Proton VPN especially the free one if you're not doing anything too heavy. Also go to browserleaks.com and make sure IP address, WebRTC and DNS are NOT leaking your real IP address (ISP), especially before you download distros.
