Gee - is that for one, or a pair!? Showing my age here but I bought my Mk II 1200s in 1996 and they're still going strong!
I still have my 1210 M3Ds from 2001, I replaced the pitch sliders a few years ago because they were feeling a little sloppy but otherwise rock solid still
I have a mid-70's Technics belt drive turntable that still works perfect! I give is a quick service each year to lube the spindle and clean the pots, Technics make some good gear!
Do you do the servicing yourself?
@keeperofthegood: Yeah sure do! I found some info online on them and I do enjoy tinkering with things!
@BlasterBoy: I'm in between models right now as my last one died. In process of buying a vintage Technics belt driven table, hopefully.
@keeperofthegood: Yeah awesome! Shout out if you need any help with servicing tips! if it's similar to mine, I can take a bunch of photos next time I do mine and write up what I do!
@BlasterBoy: Hey again, I've finally got another turntable - the Technics SL-D212. Would love any advice or input you have on servicing it, setting it up etc. I got it from a guy who told me he spent a month's wages on it back in the 70's, but it's been stored in a closet for 15 years. While it's in great shape overall, I'm sure it could use some love and servicing to get it modernised. I also need to buy a new stylus but not sure yet what I'll get.
Anyway, would really appreciate any thoughts!
@keeperofthegood: Yeah nice! Direct drive!
There is a guy on YT, "Turntable guy" who has a great video on that one, looks like its pretty easy to service, not much to go wrong with it.
as long as the grease inside is fine, otherwise you'd just need to clean off the old gunk with some IPA and re-apply.
If you don't have a stylus scale, id recommend one, you can get one on ebay pretty cheap, and will help setting up for what stylus you get. as for what stylus! I am still trying to work that one out myself!
I use a Ortofon OM head shell and cartridge with an OM20 stylus, but have tried it back to back with a 5E and 10 and I don't know if the extra money was worth it tbh.
I did b2b testing with the 3 as best as I could, and it made me sad I spent so much!
It would probably just be best to swap out whatever is on there for something similar, If its the standard headshell, it should tell you the model of it underneath.
Still got my pair of black M3Ds too! Haven't used them in a number of years though. Have to dust off the dust covers and whip out the ortofon's and belt out some beats!
It's been on my to-do list for years to record my vinyl and then flog to some second hand store for cents on the dollar hahaha. That will be a depressing day.
Flog them to me for cents on the dollar please! Plus the M3Ds!
How did you replace the pitch slider?
It's reasonably straightfoward, but you will need a soldering iron
how to change the pitch fader on a technics 1200/1210 turntable part 1
Good condition used 1200s are going for $1000 on marketplace. I got mine for around $500 about 8 or 9 yeara ago.
I think I paid about $1150 ea for my M3Ds from DMC records in Prahran back in the day. I'm expecting to get $1k+ each when I bother to resell, even without cartridges!
Bulletproof.
The price barely went up in decades, I don't how they do it
One - it's a really good deal considering.
My 1200mk5 - near mint without a stylus was $950 used around two years ago from memory.
For one?
Yes. That's the average price for one at the time, but this is near mint + has an almost perfect condition dust cover.
This is just a bit more then a japanese refurbished like mine.
and no need for a step-down and new platter
Are these made in Japan?
Great question - these are made in Malaysia
must…. resist…
35 years and still going, no interest in watching a DJ that isn't using a set.
nope, price is $1699…. no discount either
