Was looking for some ANC headphones, saw the XM6 deal posted before but thought this was much more affordable.
XM4s seem to be a much safer bet than the XM5s and XM6s have a hefty price.

The XM3's are actually the best of the series for noise reduction according to rtings scientific tests.
Their mic is also rubbish, though.
I don't think this is true. I own the XM3s and I've tried the XM5s, the ANC is definitely better. My understanding is that ANC has been steadily improving with each generation.
Bang for buck, still one of the best headphones on the market.

FTFY
If you're looking for a pair of cans only for use at home, there are much better sounding options out there at or below this price range
Absolutely. But if you want an all-rounder, for travel, office, train - this is probably the best out there.
Dammm, mum stole my set after I let her borrow it for her overseas trip.
Temped to get these or perhaps the new XM6
Ever since XM6 came out, that's all it took for all flagship models camping at $500-600 to actually drop half price
For the same price, the Momentum 4 > XM4.
On paper, they go toe to toe, but spec sheets and reviews don’t tell the whole story. If you can, try both yourself. Let your ears decide, not someone else's take.
Not bad at all, same price. Double the battery life and much clearer audio apparently. If I had known I would’ve debated it. Could be an alternative for people wanting better sound quality
The batter life is the only good thing going for the M4. Also, I'm not sure how it could possibly sound better than the XM4 when it doesn't even support LDAC.

The Momentum also has Aptx which is important if you want to use a Bluetooth adapter on a plane, etc. Also, and I know it's subjective, but I find the sound of the XM4 is overly bassy - even once tuned - not ideal if you want clarity. It's noise cancellation is excellent but i don't think they're as good as everyone claims they are.
M4 sound is better, ANC is worse.
ANC is not as good as Sony which is a pretty big buying point for headphones.
I feel like the akg's at JB are a better deal. Not best in class ANC though if that's the most important feature but great sound quality and a dongle.
facts, you can use it on pc, ps5 etc, can use it with cable. bluetooth, you can connect it to your phone to take calls and have it connected to something else with the dongle, just too many pros to list, not many cons
Mine arrived yesterday, happy with purchase
mine have not, express shipping with the quoted day is not guaranteed said the online chat,.
These Sonys always sounded muffled to me. Never liked them.
I have to agree, even after experimenting with the EQ I was super super disappointed in them for a $300+ pair of headphones. My airpods have far better clarity and separation of bass. These sounds muffled and muddy no matter what.
I assume you mean the AirPods Max?
No, Airpod 4 surprisingly. I listen to a lot of rock and metal, and I find the xm4's just blend all guitars and bass into a muddy mess and are generally terrible. Not sure why I'm being negged for giving my opinion on some headphones haha. I will say the noise cancelling is very good however, so they got that right.
@socks2807: i got the airpod 4 non anc, and they actually sound pretty damn good for 170 bucks, but i absolutely hate how they fall out of my ears, absolutely shit design by apple, its very common after searching it up on reddit
Same here. Even once equalizing them, they always sound overly bassy and muddy. I love the quality of the ANC but the audio quality is definitely average and doesn't deserve the hype.
I have these and bose qc 45 . Features and sound sony wins but I cannot wear over an hour . It makes my ears hot and sweaty. Where as bose are very comfortable. I really would like to use sony more but I cannot. Not sure will xm6 will be same ?
Same here.
I’m with you. I don’t even use this to gym only to study for an hour. If I went gym, these headphones will be drenched in sweat. I have sold my xm4 and still use my qc45. They are more comfortable and I can wear for many hours.
Good to know I am not the only one with this experience.
The reason might be the shallow ear cup and that foam which pushes against your ears. I found bose to be much more comfortable too, because their ear cup design is generally deeper and doesn't make close contact with the ear.
Will wait for QC45 deal.
I got a Seconds pair of XM4s from Sony Ebay last week for $200 with two coupons so I'd hold out on this myself. I broke my XM3s so it needed to happen quickly. Don't forget the biggest bargain is taking care of your stuff.
$200 all in all? Or is it $200 outlay from you after you used the coupons?
They were $262, but there was a 15% and 10% coupon that brought it down to around $202.
The daily XM4/XM5 sale
Walked into my local GG and they did it for $275. Said it was staff price and he couldn't go lower.
Do you just walk into a store and demand the staff discount, threaten to take off your pants if they dont give a discount, or did you spawn with a +10 persuasion skill?
I had both MX3/MX4 for about 3 years, agree with MX3 wins in noise cancellation. But MX3 only can connect ONE device, which pushed me to upgrade to MX4.
Also, the MX4 USB C charging board is very sensitive, DO NOT use fast charger to charge the MX4, it will damage the charging board. If you search the MX4 charging issue on Google, there are many people having the same issue.
I been using xm3 since October 2018. Still going strong
obligatory 'horrible mic' comment (as they sit on my desk, still used, but not for the mic, ever)
Sony probably make 250 on each pair.
Best headsets I have evered owned as a general purpose headsets which does everything to my satisfaction.
Are there better headsets for specific purposes, yes some more expensive, some cheaper and better in one or the other. But this is the best overall general purpose headset.
Absolutely the best headphone in this line I upgraded from the xm2 to xm5 and hated it because of the pain it caused my head so i got the xm4 which have been working wonders!
My ears were frying with these ones and it makes me sad to return these even though they were best in quality.
Have they fixed the issue where it keeps turning on the Speak To Chat functionality whenever you connect to a laptop, even after you turned it off in settings?
And when it connects to 2 devices, it prioritises the laptop, even if you're not listening to anything in the active app, as long as you have a video in a tab that was paused.
Something to consider with these - which is why I bought them instead of XM5 is the physical design. If you've got a big head, get these as the XM5/6 are narrower and have more clamping force. XM5/6 might be better for people with small heads.
The XM4 fit is almost identical to the XM3 and XB900 if you've had either in the past.
The other thing is that these fold down smaller than the XM5/6 - ear cups swivel and fold, though that might not matter to you. It makes them much better to put into a bag when you aren't using them though.
Lastly the XM5/6 might have this too, but the XM4 I believe uses a connector to attach the drivers and controls, meaning that you can actually replace the headband if it gets damaged or starts to fall apart over time. I tried to do a replacement on my XB900s but couldn't be bothered when I realised I'd have to desolder and solder 13 wires. Again this might not matter if you don't keep them long enough, whereas I had my XB900s for 5 years.
This or Bose QuietComfort SC at the same price?
Anyone know if the XM4 bluetooth delays are resolved when watching TV. My XM3 works without delays but the XM4 appears to drift and have increased sync issues.
They dropped support for the aptX bluetooth codec after the XM3, could possibly be a reason? The other codecs (with the exception of LDAC) seem to have worse latency.
Has anyone successfully replaced their battery in an existing pair vs buying replacements?
The XM4's are still probably the best in the series. The only downside would be the mic, which I found to be egregiously bad during phone calls. My pair lasted for about 3 years of abuse in the gym, with sweat, on planes, etc. before carking it unfortunately but that's a me not taking care of my technology issue. Let's not forget that the new XM6's are over 600 dollars RRP.
