Dell UltraSharp U4025QW 40in WUHD 5K 120Hz IPS Curved with Speakers $2,149 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Umart

110

Bought one back in March this year at roughly the same price from Dell deals, it has been superb until table leg gave way, and the monitor fell and broke.
Personal experience note, on some of the lower end video card the 120Hz refresh rate may only be available on one of ports (DisplayPort or HDMI).
Also, found that you need to place the monitor a little further back from the table front, would recommend table width of 80cm or more.

Surcharges: 0% direct deposit, 0.9% card, 1% fee on all other payments including Google Pay & Apple Pay.

  • would this be a good replacement for two u2718's?

    • In my experience, if you tend to use the 2 monitor to compare 2 documents side by side, this monitor is a great replacement. If the 2 monitor is mainly used for 2 very different purpose e.g. one watching movies while the other is displaying market prices, then I would stick with 2 separate monitors.
You will notice a big difference between the viewing area, this is 40 inchs vs 27 inchs (u2718).

        So this will be smaller? I have 2x 27” so that’s 54”
I use one to browse ozb and the other to browse the internet or watch videos while refreshing ozb

        • +1

True, combine resolution the 2x27" (4k) is bigger. If you are watching videos in full screen mode and browsing on the other monitor, I would stick with the 2 monitor you already have. One of the other benefits of having the 5K is able to view large Excel documents continuously on one screen.

        • +3

          It's actually 48.8" cos Pythagoras

        • +1

its less pixels on the long edge vs. 2x 4K displays, and its listed as nearly 1m wide.

FYI displays are measured diagonally so 2x 27" is not 54", (in this case its 48" or 121cm), but if they are edge to edge and not toed in towards the viewing position/ center, the 2 monitors will be wider.

having used both 2X 4K and 1X ultrawide in separate settings, i defintely prefer the ultrawide.

  • Do Dell price beat?

    • +1

I have done a price match with them before (2 success and 1 failure), you will need to reach out to them, there is an online chat you can use.

This panel is now last last last gen. It has horrible 120hz compliance, way over driven resulting in massive smearing. https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/u4025qw
Either save your money and buy the Kogan version, or spend a bit more and buy an LG GX9, whatever you do, for the love of God, don't buy this thing.

    • +1

I wouldn't call it "last last gen" - it was released this year. The panel is outstanding for regular and professional desktop use. 120Hz isn't common at this DPI.

If you're a gamer you will probably prioritize other things over colour accuracy and DPI.

      • +2

Look, you're right, I might've put too many 'last' in there. I just think this thing is super overpriced for what it is.

The panel is from 2023, it should be much cheaper now.

I've had the kogan version for around $600 for over a year and I see no reason what so ever why the dell version would be more than $1000 let alone $2000+

    • FWIW, GX9 is great for gaming but I actually find it too big for work

Considering I do 80% work, 20% gaming, a 40-42" IPS would be sweet spot

Dell is kidding itself though asking for $2k compared to the LG. Maybe if they dropped it to $1.5k I'd recommend this Dell monitor over it

      • I find the 40" too big for work. I think I like my 32" 4k the most for both gaming and work, but hey, its all a bit subjective

how hard is the GX9 to drive in games? I'm assuming you need a 4080+

Congrats on getting the ultimate God-tier monitor!

        • Cheers

The GX9 and OLED was still a little overhyped for me.

Like damn blacks are cool now, and size adds some good immersion, but overall it took my gaming experience from 8/10 to 9/10

IMO, quality VR is still the 10/10 experience, and that always blows me away

Whenever AMD do another high end GPU, or get 5090 level of performance, I'll pickup a new VR set

          FWIW. I've got a 9070 XT

Mostly play casual games, so if the frame gen stuff is available I don't mind turning it on to run at native

But otherwise lowering the resolution doesn't affect my enjoyment, so usually run it at 2560x1080 @ 330Hz

    • Agreed that the Dell price is ridiculous compared to the Kogan, but with the quality issues I've had with the Kogan I couldn't recommend it. Unfortunately there's a really limited range of 5k2k models and the prices from the major brands are all grossly inflated.

  • thanks @scrimshaw for correcting the tile instead of giving me an earful :) (more motivating then been told off)

be careful with Umart, fine for purchasing but if something goes wrong good luck getting a refund or warranty claim through!

  • Just get the Kogan version for under $600. Ive been using it for a few months with no issues. Refresh rate is only 75Hz but the panle can't really do 120Hz anyway

Decided I want to give streaming a try and frankly this is perfect so bought one for twitch chat in portrait mode. Thanks OP

  • Is the ghosting noticeable when scrolling long text?

    • Haven't noticed any ghosting when scrolling text.

  • I did extensive research between this Monitor and LG Ultrawide 38inch and end up buying 38" from LG.

My use case was 80% Work (Software development) and 20% Gaming.

    https://www.centrecom.com.au/lg-ultrawide-38-qhd-ips-144hz-g…

  • I have one of these and i find it great for my woro needs. I get 120hz both via thunderbolt to an intel laptop with integrated graphics, and by dp to an nvidia card.

My workload is IT pro stuff including a lot of chrome tabs, document reviews, coding, outlook, etc.

It has enough usb ports and bandwidth for all my needs. These and the 2.5 gbe port can either go via the usb c cable to the laptop, or via a usb cable to "upstream", my workstation. You can set the network one to be fixed or change as display source changes.

I don't game on it or watch much content on it so don't mind that it is not OLED.

  • Thanks I'm just looking for a big screen like this.

This is an amazing screen, got one last year and have been loving every minute of it.

Sure there is ghosting when scrolling really fast, but that’s easily overlooked.

I’m using Thunderbolt to a laptop, and the ability to split the screen into two screens via DP MST is killer for screen sharing.

Inbuilt speakers are handy, can hear Teams notifications from a mile away.

The 130w charging though, well it only works with a very specific list of laptops. My <2 year old XPS 15 won’t charge at full speed, but a Carbon X1 Gen12 will (it requires less juice)

Compared to my AW3821DW the blacks are blacker, but the motion isn’t as great. The pixel pitch is great, the AW is grainy af after using this all day.

The inbuilt KVM is handy for anyone with more than one device connected to it. And with the built in 2.5g Ethernet, this thing let me get rid of my dock and the mess of cables that went with it.

Ive had this for over a year and it's a great monitor. The only downside is if you're a Mac user you need a beefy computer. My old M1 Pro couldn't do 120hz over TB3 (although with a custom profile could do 100hz), but my M4 Pro can under TB4. Similarly an M4 Air supposedly can't do 120hz (without custom firmware).

Even with the M4 Pro there's an annoying quirk where the thunderbolt controller randomly crashes (several times a day), which if you run the laptop in clamshell mode results in the monitor turning off, and your laptop basically going to sleep. Easily reawoken but it's annoying if you're in the middle of a conference call using an external webcam powered by the monitor. This can be avoided by charging the laptop using a dedicated charging port instead of over thunderbolt. Two cables instead of one. Annoying, but works.
