  • 40" would be perfect if it was at least 120hz

    • I bought the 120hz version of this monitor from Alibaba for about $750. Same panel as the Dell u4025qw, fantastic monitor for the price. Supports HDR and VRR

      • Do you have a link to the one you purchased?

Yep it was this one: www.alibaba.com/product-detail/PC-Curved-Gaming-Monitor-40-I…

Ordered on the 2nd July and delivered on the 3rd September using the cheapest shipping via sea.

          Happy to answer any questions!

          • @renza: What is the general build quality like? This review on YT for the Kogan version raises build quality concerns regarding the VESA screw holes, and the janky/loose DC plug.

@Meron35: I had to use spacers for the VESA mount, but i also had to use spacers on my old Dell monitor, so wasn't really a concern for me. The DC plug is fine, probably the same, but i haven't had it come out accidentally or anything.

the build isn't the best but i'm not touching the monitor often. It has enough settings in the menus that I could calibrate it with my i1 Display pro pretty well.

I did open it up to confirm the panel model: https://imgur.com/VHUUXOZ

@Meron35: Just FYI, that youtube review is outdated: the Kogan now comes with the necessary spacers for a VESA mount.

Must have been just the first batch that didnt come with spacers, because mine definitely did (I ordered the second time they came up, so must have been a later batch).

I would assume a random Chinese monitor to be pretty similar in build quality as the Kogan (which is just a Chinese monitor with the kogan badge slapped on!).

@caprimulgus: Yep it's literally the same housing, the stand is the same and all.

    3840 x1440 on 49 inch is a crime

      3840 × 1080 - worse than a crime

Here is a 5120 x 1440 120hz 49" for $120 more, 1080p at that size is an actual criminal offence.

How do you get to 1080p if it's clearly 1440p

      • 3840 × 1080 dual-Full HD

        That’s how I got 1080p

      • They are referring to the 49" (3840x1080) listed in the deal. (Not to the 49" 5120 x 1440 that they posted as an alternative for $120 more.)

    • Looks great. Any reason not to get one for a workstation PC?

  • I have one of these. The USB C connection stopped working after a couple of weeks. I later discovered that the thunderbolt ports of the NUC I connected to it were killed. Fortunately the other devices I plugged in didn't seem to be damaged.

  • I bought the 40" one in the EOFY sale. Unfortunately, it's been a dud. Currently on the second replacement (so the third monitor) and about to return it as well. This time I'll insist on a refund.

Same problem with all three: occasional (once a day or less) strobing/flickering, vertical banding, temporary image retention. Can last for an hour or so, usually less. ChatGPT reckons this relates to a faulty T-Con board. I've seen it across the different connections (USB-C, HDMI, Dport) and different computers. Video here and here.

Because i've had three duds in a row, I suspect it's a bad manufacturing batch. Avoid.

It's a real shame though as otherwise this is a good monitor, and much cheaper than the Dell and LG 5k2k alternatives. I'm fine with 75Hz, even for gaming.

    • That sucks! I havent had any such issues, but I bought from an earlier batch, so perhaps it's an issue with that particular batch, as you suggested.

A pity, because its been great for me! Check out the 120hz one from China that @renza posted above - I would probably order one of those if i was buying now! (Still considering it to order one, and rock dual 40s! Lol) :)

      • Yeah, the 120Hz looks good but the 75Hz model from the same seller appears to be this exact Kogan monitor. So I'm not sure I trust the products out of this factory. Returns and warranty could be difficult too.

I am perplexed as to why I have had 3 bad monitors in a row, when I can't see other reports online complaining. I wonder if it's somewhat of a Mac issue. I see the problems I described regularly on a Mac, usually with USB-C but also when testing with HDMI. If the problem is occurring and I switch to a Windows PC, the problem continues on the PC. However, I haven't seen the problem start on the PC. Difficult to say if this is significant as I use the Mac a lot more and haven't spent nearly the same amount of time using the monitor on the PC.

I've tried various settings in vain too: HDR on/off, freesync on/off, different resolutions, different refresh rates, different cables, different picture settings (photo/game/etc).
