Onward Flight Booking

I need to fly to Bali on short notice, and dont know exactly when I will return, but it will be well within 2 weeks.

As I need proof of return flight to get through immigration, but am not sure when exactly I will be flying, or even what city I'm flying back into Australia to, I dont want to actually book a flight.

After some googling, found online companies charging $14 -$16 ish for "onward tickets" that satisfy the needs for immigration somehow?

Is this actually legit? If so, is there a reputable site to use for this?

Thanks in advance.

** UPDATE **

I have now made arrangements just using a flexi booking for the return and will have to just reschedule that. Thanks all for the help.

You could book the return flight on Virgin and get a full refund with no fees by choosing the business class fare.

    • Thanks for the tip… Dont really want to front the $1800 to start this process, so will end up booking a flexi and just using Virgin when I do fly out.

  • why dont you know when youll return?

    • Drug boss doesn't have the final schedule yet for the mules.

I’m more than a bit curious why you “need” to fly to Bali lol

I probably wouldn’t risk one of those companies. How do these companies make money? Are you putting down a deposit for a flight and if you don’t take it you get charged a lot of money for it?

    Just book a flexible flight.

Just buy two one way tickets, the second one should be a flexible/refundable one.

Info for others looking for solutions: There are services where you can "rent" an onward ticket for 24 or 48 hours. Essentially the providers are travel agents and they book your flight for the date you need with your name etc and then auto cancel after 24 or 48 hours. Cost for holding the ticket is about USD$17 (~AUD$25).
Doing it this way means you still have a legitimate ticket that immigration can look up (if they are actually checking), but saves you having to remember to cancel. When refunding flights you don't get back all those payment surcharges or any conversion fees, so it may work out fairly similar in cost, just a bit more convenient.
Onwardticket.com is one of the most discussed on reddit with plenty of people saying that they have used it multiple times with no issue.
