    • Agreed. Although I did just buy it from Steam on their last sale same price as this. Which I believe is the all time low (without buying from another country)

I respectfully disagree, the game still holds up really well today. Incredible gameplay, graphics, storyline and more. You're getting a lot for $22.48.

The game hasn't aged at all IMO. You also need to keep in mind it's still the latest red dead redemption game, still has a fair amount of active users (especially for a 6 year old game), and still sells well…until any of those things drop (or a newer one comes out) you shouldn't see much lower prices.

Yeah… nah. You could say all the same things about Skyrim back in the day too. Yet 2 years after it came out it was selling for $8.74 USD.

        • +2

…except you can't say the same thing for skyrim.

Red dead redemption 2 has more active players year on year after launch
Red dead redemption 2 graphics & storyline held up much better 6 years after launch
and at 6 years in skyrim was definitely showing it's age.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not poo pooing on skyrim, it's a great game and i love it, i've played hundreds of hours on it….but i'd still say red dead redemption 2 is a better base game.

          • -2

@whitepuma: Yes but I'm not talking about Skyrim after 6 years, I'm talking about Skryim after 2 years.

            • +1

@MrZ: same thing for 2 years…..red dead redemption 2 had more active players 2 years after launch, it also had better graphics and storyline which held strong 2 years after launch.

at the 2 year mark skyrim graphics was already starting to show its age, especially as graphical improvements were much bigger back then.

I'd go as far to say that if red dead redemption 2 released today people still wouldn't say it has crap graphics, which is impressive given it's 6 years old now.

Not all games nowadays are following the same formula that they use to, it's evident now that if you make a top tier game it will retain it's value much longer….rockstar has learnt that, Nintendo knows it, and other companies are starting to learn from it.

              • -2

@whitepuma: I played Skyrim after 2 years and thought the graphics were fine. Also you have to compare RDR2 at the 6 year mark to Skyrim at the 2 year mark. Don't tell me that it has more players now than Skyrim had after 2 years.

                • +1

@MrZ: Your right, skyrim graphics at the 2 year mark were fine….but rdr2 graphics at the 6 year mark are better than fine, their great.

Regarding active players, i don't know about console, but for steam concurrent players here are the figures:

RDR2 at 6 years: 32,300-34,000 average concurrent players
Skyrim at 2 years: 25,613 average concurrent players.

So even with that above comparison, RDR2 has more concurrent players at the 6 year mark.

But like i said earlier, there is more to it than just the age of the game. Games nowadays are following a different sales pattern than what they use to….back in the day all the sales would happen in the first year, then it would fall off a cliff. Nowadays if it's a REALLY GOOD game you still get that big hit at the beginning, but then you continue to get steady sales for years to come. Like i said, rockstar knows this, and so does Nintendo.

Now put your business hat on, imagine you own a company that released a game 6 years ago. If you're still experiencing steady sales on your game, 6 years after launch, are you going to drop the price down to $10? i know i wouldn't.

                  • @whitepuma: I enjoy Skyrim, and play it nearly every day, whereas RDR2 bores me to death. That's all I need to know.

Also convenient that I can play Skyrim in Japanese, with both Japanese audio and Japanese subtitles. Great for language learning.

I just wish the NPCs in Skyrim were more realistic and less one-dimensional. But that's my criticism of a lot of RPG games. I guess with AI we can look forward to more interesting and realistic NPCs in future.

@ForkSnorter: thats good, skyrim is a great game, and everybody has their own preferences, i can respect that.

        • +4

Games these days actually hold alot their worth, companies are learning from Nintendo. Back then stuff got stupid cheap after like 2 years, It doesn't happen as often now and with Red Dead 2 is one of a kind game so they could charge whatever they want and people would buy it still.

One of the all time great games.
Yes it’s slower paced, but it’s meant to be. Enjoy it. Art

awesome game but its clunky af IMO

    • +2

agreed, im playing it right now for the first time, clocked about 30hrs on it now. Great story but frustrating as hell when trying to pick up stuff and when trying to move around in tight spaces.

    • +2

It took me 6 months to chip through it due to the clunkiness pissing me off. I usually can smash out any game in a week or two, but this one was torture. I would have given up if the story wasn't good.

    • As in inconsistent controls?
