Will JB Hi-Fi Do a $1400 Gift Card Promotion on iPhone 17

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone knows maybe from previous years, if sometime between now (September) and December, will JB Hi-Fi do the $1400 gift card if you join their $99/month plan and get one of the iPhone 17 series models? Maybe Black Friday or does this deal not happen again until 2026?

Just trying to figure out the best time or way to get the iPhone 17 after they were announced today.

And before anyone mentions it, I upgrade every 3 years.

Cheers

They have an $1100 gift card right now, which is not bad. You could sign up to that and then use the gift card to buy the iPhone when it comes out. They had $1350 off a pixel 10 previously, so maybe they’ll have a slightly better deal when the iPhone is released. But I doubt it. You’ll probably have to wait till next year for that.

    • Yes, that is what I did in the past with other deals. Have enought gift cards to buy it as soon as I can. Upgrading from 14 pro which will be passed down to family.

    • Cool thanks this is essentially what I was looking for, didn't realise they already had the promotion going. Obviously $1400 is better but I will do the maths see if its worth it.

      • The voda deal is better if the coverage works for you. $1000 off for 2 year $69 plan or $1399 off for 3 year $69 plan. They also have a deal for the $79 plan if you need more than 150Gb pm

pre-order is not even out yet lol why speculate when you just need to wait a few days

Get a $1200 Gift Card on 99 plan

    between 11 and 17 sep

  • Post battery life.

  • apple store had 1k off if u signed for vodafone, 69 a month for 24 months. i did that for the iphone 15. only problem is vodafone reception is terrible. never again!

    • It’s been totally fine for me in the last couple of years. Looks like they are doing the deal again this year. Actually not a bad deal if you are a high data user and have decent voda coverage.

iPhone 17 for 256 GB price is $1399. The answer for your question is probably yes, JB Hi-Fi may offer $1400 gift card with its postpaid plan. Similar with previous preorder promotions.

My friend is waiting for iPhone 17 Pro Max. Most likely will choose either JB HiFi plan then cancel, or Harvey Norman with Optus plan then cancel after 4 months to get the cheapest total cost. Already bought 1 year plan sim card with big amount of data.

  • I believe they will either do $1400 off with $1000 ETC OR $1200 off with $800 ETC. JB mobile is a bit riskier now because you can't figure out the ETC before sign up to a plan, and seems like they just re-adjust the ETC as they like

    • How is this legal not to disclose the ETC up front?

  • Hi guys,

I want to upgrade from iPhone 13 to iPhone 17 Pro. I was thinking of trading in my current iPhone 13 (for $300 trade-in value) & using an Apple Gift Card from Coles/ Woollies 20X (reward points) to purchase. I am also travelling overseas for 10 days, so though I will get the 10% GST refunded as well.

I have seen so many posts of previous models where people buy from JB/TGG and cancel the contract, but I never understood how that works. Can someone explain how this works?

Here is the price I would pay with my method -

    iPhone 17 Pro = $1999
    Trade in iPhone 13 = $300
    Apple Gift Card from Coles / Woolies - approx. 10% of 1699 = 169.9
    Amount paid at store - 1999 - 300 = 1699 (with $169 worth of points for groceries, so $$1529.1)
    GST refund - 10% of 1699 = 169.9

So in Total it will cost me = 1359.2 (I want them to claim this as a work phone and depreciate it over 3/4 yrs to reduce taxes in future)

    How are others buying it?

I know for a few months Apple will stop Coles/Woolies from releasing the 20X Reward Points, so my other options will be to get 5% off Apple GC from the Bupa Rewards Portal

    • GST in your example would be $154, not $169. Divide the full amount that includes GST by 11 to find included GST.

With JB promo it goes something like this:

      iPhone 17 Pro $1999
JB throws in a $1400 off voucher, $1999 - $1400 =$599 out of pocket phone cost
You have to Sign up for JB mobile plan to obtain that $1400 voucher = $99 upfront fee for the first month
When you get the phone, cancel the plan before you second month starts = $766 early cancellation fee ($800 which is maximum as per T&C but you already paid $99 for the first month so it lowers to $766 proportionally)

      Sum up everything:
      $1999 - $1400 + $99 + $766 =$1 464
Get GST back under TRS for the FULL amount before any vouchers ($1999/11 =$181,73 GST to be paid to you)
      Final cost with TRS would be $1464 - $181 =$1 283

All this is correct if the voucher is $1400 and maximum ETF is $800 like it was for previous deals but that can change.

      • Looks like the early cancellation fee ends up much more now (below from T&C):

        Voucher Repayment Fee
If you received a JB Hi-Fi Base Voucher when you purchased your Mobile Service and you cancel that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term, you must pay us the outstanding amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Base Voucher you received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Base Voucher Repayment Fee).
From July 24, 2025, if you also received a JB Hi-Fi Bonus Voucher when you purchased your Mobile Service and you cancel that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term, you must pay us the outstanding amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Bonus Voucher you received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Bonus Voucher Repayment Fee)
The Base Voucher Repayment Fee and the Bonus Voucher Repayment Fee (as applicable) is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of the Base Voucher and Bonus Voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by the months (or part months) remaining in your Voucher Term. For example, if received a voucher with a 24-month Voucher Term, then in:
        (a)
        Month 1: You will need to repay 23/24 of the Voucher you received;
        7
        (b).
Month 12: You will need to repay 11/24 of the Voucher you received…

        • Yeah, looks like the game is over.

  • Don't attempt such "repaymet default" as your credit rating will be compromised out of it.

You saved a few hundred dollars on a phone but this deteriorated rating would charge you higher mortgage rate thus ending up paying hundreds times more when you buy a house.

    • Don't attempt such "repaymet default"

      What repayment default?

ending up paying hundreds times more

      That sounds like an exaggeration.

    • higher mortgage rate

This is not the US, banks won't give you any different rate if you credit score 800 or 750. Both fall under "good" credit score and this all that matters. Banks assess your income, previous defaults, missed payments and such.

"deteriorated rating" would go back to normal in a month or two if you don't miss payments.

  • Now it's on JB Hi-Fi website … $1200 not $1400 on the plan. Maybe better wait until Black Friday for better promo.
