nbn 100/40 Internet Dilemma with Superloop

Hey everyone, long time no see.

Superloop have informed me that my 100/40 Black Friday promo I received from last year will apparently not be getting the upgrade to the 500/50.

Basically telling me to keep my promo code until November than switch…even though most plans will most likely be getting a better deal with a better speed..

My question is.

Would you just wait and see if in fact my plan does get the upgrade? (if that does not happen), would you wait until November incase a better Black Friday deal comes out for the speed or would you just trigger a new deal if the speed does not get updated in a week or so and churn and burn in November if something does come about?

I do not understand why in the hell the 100/40 plan would not even revert to a 500/50 plan but with Superloops horrible customer service, it probably makes sense.

    Ditch superloop.

  • Is it only 100/20 that is getting upgraded to 500/50?

    • 100/20 changes to 500/50.

Some ISPs are moving nbn FTTP and HFC customers from 100/40 to 500/50, 100/40 to 250/100 or keeping you on 100/40 until you contact your ISP and change to a faster speed plan.

Everyone switched to Arctel. Keep up grandpa.

100/40 is excluded by nbn. Change to 500/50 with any ISP or Superloop whenever you want.

That's right. It's not Superloop that's upgrading the speeds. It's NBNCo. Superloop & other retailers are just keeping the plans the same & the speeds will increase because of what NBNCo is doing. OP, your complaint should be to NBNCo for not choosing your particular plan for upgrading.

Some ISP's are taking a common sense approach and still upgrading 100/40 plans as well. I am with more on their CommBank offer and will be upgraded from 100/40 to 500/50

      • Superloop is upgrading 100/40 to 250/100 for nbn FTTP and HFC.

  • Plenty of nbn deals out there. You won't lose out by churning now and getting the upgrade while you're at it. I was also on that same black Friday deal but switched to dodo last month with topcashback's cashback offer

  • Switch every 6 month, and grab a N$ discount when possible

I would just wait and see. I asked Superloop this morning and they said my 100/40 FTTP would be upgraded to 500/50. If it upgrades to 500/50 or 250/100 I'll be fine with that until churning around black friday.

Kinda weird how 100/20 is eligible but 100/40 isnt. You could just give your notice and sign up to another one on list that does free upgrades

Welp. Superloop did not come to the party. They could have given us the increase but chose not to. Customer service is also abhorrent. Goodbye.

  • I think I have a similar issue. I'm also on their 100/40 plan, which has proven not to be enough for a three person household, but was holding out to see if we'd get upgraded and it seems we won't.

A wrinkle for us (and I might just make my own thread about it tomorrow/in the coming days) is that we're in an apartment builing, and though the Superloop rep told me we had FTTP, I was always a bit skeptical of this because the installation/connection is via the RJ11 connector in our apartment's wall, which afaik has bandwidth limitations (my suspicion is it's more like our building has FTTP, but whatever service we have cannot take advantage of that).

But I'm also regularly confused by networking stuff, so I could be wrong or totally misunderstanding something.

Anyway given we don't seem to be getting the upgrade I'm thinking about churning, but I'm also concerned that we'll be without internet for a period if the way it's delivered will need to be changed.

I'd love some advice from someone who knows more than me and also has Superloop in an apartment block. (FWIW other providers regularly advertise inside our building plans up to 1000Mbps, so it certainly seems to be available, unless they're just fibbing about it. We're in Southbank in Melbourne, if that matters.)

Finally, just to join the pile-on, I've also found their customer service to be very lacking.

Edit: I used the address checker on Superloop's website, and it said we're not receiving the upgrade.

    • Update: Oops, just realised I'm actually on 100/20. Was sure I'd changed to 100/40 a couple of months back but either I misremembered (likely) or it didn't work when it said it did (possible). But it still says I'm not getting the upgrade, and if I try to adjust my plan 100/40 is the highest available.

Man, you're getting right royally screwed.

Most 100/20 would be upgraded to 500/50… but you aren't even getting that!
I was 100/40, SL refused to DOWNGRADE me to 100/20, so I could then be auto-upgraded to 500/50.

Like the OP, I also bought during the Blackfriday deal.

SL said I needed to CANCEL my service, serve out the 30 day wait, and re-enrol / sign up again.
What?! Makes no sense. I'd rather cancel and churn elsewhere - which is what I'm doing.
They've lost a customer in me (and multiple future customers no doubt, considering I'm happy to talk about my SL experience with any- and every-one).

I emailed Pineapple Net, who've been advertising in my building, and they immediately replied (already a much better customer service experience than anything I've had with Superloop), and they have some kind of internal fibre network at my building that means they can offer plans up to 1000 down and 1000 up.

So, assuming I don't find any horror stories about Pineapple, uh, yeah, seeya later Superloop.

I'll put up with the 30 day cancellation wait with Superloop if I have to, but tbh the service has had regular drop outs anyway (playing poker has been next to impossible), so hopefully I won't even have to worry about that.

EIther way, Pineapple basically said they can get us set up on their plan within a few days.

@yeahna: Good luck! I'm also kicking SL to the curb, and signing up with another ISP closer to my 30 day wait.

@dangerdanger: Good luck to you too! Hopefully Superloop's shitty customer service hurts their bottom line!

Enter the apartment address here to see what kind of nbn is in your building. Is it nbn FTTB?

Pineapple Net is the way to go if you have access to it.

      • +1

Thanks—listed as FTTB @ 100/40 "speed potential". And it looks like Pineapple have their own network installed so other providers can't access it. I don't love monopolies but for 1000Mbps I'll put up with it!

I churned with Superloop today and went to Leaptel. Within 1 hr everything was where it should be.

    • Did you have to serve the 30 day wait with Superloop?

      • +1

No I put a complaint in and they have waived it. The complaint was based around the fact it took 45 minutes each phone call to still not get anyone on the line.

When they did, they kept transferring me until they could not help me.

        • was this the phone call to notify them of the 30 day cancellation? was the complaint on the call as well and was it asked for a waive of the monthly bill?

I am about to call them for the exact reason. even though it says I can go via Live chat for assistance.

Black friday promo was good but coming to an end soon and will just swap over to swoop for now. shopback promo.
I may upgrade to fibre but prices are still high up $90pm approx for lower plans.
