Vodafone Moved My Old Monthly SIM-Only Plan to a New $10 Plan

I have been with Vodafone's very old monthly SIM-only "pay-as-you-use" plan for over 20 years. The good thing with it is, you don't pay if you don't use - perfect if you travel overseas for months. This month they have finally moved my plan to a new $10/month plan with the following inclusions:
- $10/mth plan fee, reduced to $5/mth for the first 12 months, whilst you stay connected to this plan
- 1GB included monthly data, then keep using data at slower speeds in Australia with no excess data charges
- Unlimited standard national calls and text in Australia
- Unlimited standard international text from Australia
- International calls are charged at our Pay As You Go rates
- $5 Roaming will automatically be activated. An additional $5 a day. Excludes data capped at slower speeds.

I think the deal is pretty good except the additional $5/day for the international roaming.

Have your old plan been terminated the same way by Vodafone? I don't seem to be able to find this $10/month SIM-only plan on Vodafone site.

  • Check to see if Vodafone sent you any emails with information about the situation.

I've had similar things happen to me via Optus and I've ended up on plans that weren't available to others OR were available for a period of time which just coincided with my forced change.

  • +2

Telcos can change your plan at any time with notice.

I used to work for Optus and there can be many reasons why they do this. But ultimately, sometimes if you're the lucky 0.0000000001% that can stay on the plan and convince them.

Reason why you can't find the plan is because this plan was strictly made for you and the people who are on it for the switch.

Unfortunately your plan is now obsolete and archived and they are moving you to the next best plan they seem fit.

    • Obviously, a Telco set a target amount earned from each customer, maybe $30 to $40/mth on average so that it should not make the low value plans accessible to the public. I know amaysim has a $15/18GB/renewal plan that isn't publicized. There was a discussion here, similar to OP's.

      • Thanks for the info. Looks like it's no longer possible for find any SIM-only plans below $30/month. So the offer of $10/month by Vodafone isn't too bad although there is no free minutes for international calls and with just 1GB data (dropped to 2Mbps after that) monthly - that fits my usage pattern quite well.

  • I was the last prepaid business customer on Telstra analogue.
They ended up closing the store no 8 that was finally able to help me.
    Happy on Voda now
but the $13 hell courier parcel is ready for data…

  • so its 5 bucks a month (for a year) and you get unlimited data and calls and text?

im jealous, thats all i want, this year i had to pay over $100 coz there is no longer any cheaper plans…
