Any advice? My Velocity account got suspended after I purchased points from someone.
Has anyone had success resolving this? I really need to book our flights ASAP 😞

Yeah, don’t expect to get those points or that account back.

Either got flagged as either you or the seller has history of sending points to a lot of different people.

Isn't it legal for someone else to use their account to book flights under your name?

      2 years jail.

    • Its your account. Under T&C there is no problem to book for some one. If you do not trust the people you can just book for them yourself. Just like you book for your friend. As long as no points transfer involved with unknown. This forum are full of BS people that doesnt know anything.

  • Seller: Someone stole my points
    Buyer: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/923782

  • Hope you enjoyed your business class flights at economy class money. Not just Virgin, Qantas (or other Frequent Flyer programs) also had he same terms and conditions on trading points and family members definition.

    Points transfer = gone.
    Nothing you can do….

Good. (profanity) them off from this website/classifieds.

FAFO, you are in the "find out" stage ;)

Account deleted, no way around it :/

I wonder if this is covered in the terms and conditions?

i had my velocity account suspended after selling points about 3 years ago (to someone on ozbargain who commonly bought points). Only did it once, knew the risk but thought it unlikely i would get caught. Luckily i sold all the points so had none left but account cancelled and they said they would cancel any new account i opened.

Re-opened a new account only 6 months ago with a different email and home address. Has not been flagged since then. Won't be selling points again.

    • Interesting. Did the buyer try to get their money back from you? I assume they were flagged at the same time and lost the points unless they managed to book some last minute tickets

      • That's the unspoken part when these posts pop up. The buyer is usually the only one SOL since the seller will obviously never do a refund and simply gets to keep your money. Unless you somehow already booked and flew the award flights before the ban hits cos otherwise that gets cancelled too lol.

    • Selling to a buyer who commonly buys points (especially from lots of different sellers) is practically the only way to get caught. Far less likely to trigger anything if it's a one off from both parties

      • Yet somehow still no shortage of brokers and trading based on the classifieds here and elsewhere. Guess it's a never ending what-a-mole no different than game currency trading etc.

  • No, Velocity only flagged it a few months later and the flight had been and gone. They had to book it through my Velocity account and I could see the flight details.

    • If no point transfer involved you can get your account back. But its too late now.

  • You broke the rules and they caught you.

  • most likely you will loose points and account.
You need to wait till they complete the review which might be 3-4 months.
If this was first time buying/selling points then there is slim (very slim) chance that they may reinstate. Such outcome is not listed in T&C. This is purely upto the agent who will review your case.
Couple of years back I was in same situation and after around 4 mths they reinstated my account and points.

    • Did you get to talk to any agents?

      • No, i sent a followup email after 3 months and agent replied that she has reinstated the account and points but with warning.

  • I used to be so into points. but they keep devaluing them year on year.

Is it really worth it these days?

Any one who has questions and issues that related to Velocity points or account feel free to contact me. Rather than listen to the people here just make up their own story but know nothing about inside. I am happy to share all the experiences.

  • Be cautious with some users on this forum. I’m always curious why they keep buying points.

    Just stop selling/buying points.

If you need points, you can buy them directly from Virgin when they have a special deal every now and then. IIRC, there was once a deal where they were about 1.5 or perhaps 1.6 cents/point. That's a lot safer than paying 1.35 cents/point from someone here.

If you have too many points, maybe you need to stop collecting them OR simply use them for yourself/family (real family, not OzB family). You can get credit cards that give points that aren't airline points, but general rewards points that can be used for other things.

I do have a bit of sympathy for the buyers, but the sellers I have zero sympathy for if caught. I actually cheer it. Please post more stories of sellers losing all of their points.
