Most mechanics use wesfil which is even cheaper. Costs 16$ but charges 70
Ur paying for them to go get it too and fitting, unless they charge that separately.
The mechanic need to make money on it too, if he buys it for $31 it doesn't make sense to sell it for $31
Yes, I know this. My mechanic charges me like $200 bucks for a filter replacement though. I get it done every 2 years or so. My air purifier filters cost $100 bucks so I assume labor is like $100 which is fair.
I'm not putting down mechanics (well maybe just my own). I'm putting down my own ignorance.
That guy is probably a mechanic, don't listen to him. Air filters is what they love to do because its a 5min job. Check where your filter is located. Never let mechanics pressure you into any job or service you don't want.
@simontadaa: My mechanic told me I'd probably need to swap it in-between now and the next service and showed me where it is and how to do it. I bet that's rare.
If your car isnt under any warranty or fixed service pricing then you can easily do it yourself, you dont even need a screwdriver
thanks OP.
just found out my car has no existing cabin filter installed.
Not a deal for me. Filters for my two vehicles (RCA189M and RCA100P) from SCA are $101.23 (C&C).
Same order including delivery from Sparesbox $84.07 and Automotive Superstore $90.52.
Ditto. It's $88 for my car and I remember paying $30 or so from eBay
Cabin air filter or intake air filter? That’s a ridiculous price for a cabin air filter
Those two show up as $48 and $52 for me. Maker you need to clear your cache
48 + 52 is eerily close to 101.23
So true, can buy them off ebay way cheaper. Even with 25% , still expensive.
Also try the Service kits with the filter included , much cheaper
It's posts like these that make me question why I trust my mechanic at all.
