Comes with both the internal wall unit that goes inside your home and the motor which goes outside which powers the AC

It would be pretty useless without both of those things.

    • +11

      wow
      you're so ungrateful

can't you appreciate the fact you're getting the Fan and the Engine with the AC???

      seriously, some people 😤😤😤
other models you need to SUBSCRIBE to get the engine
      also Auto High Beams

    • doesn't come with the home.

does this code also work for other units?

    • You can normally both the interior and exterior units seperately.

"AI Smart AIRISE" really looks like smart arse to my eyes when im this tired.

God i cant wait till not every single device on planet earth has to be labelled as AI.

    • +7

If you grew up in the 80’s I remember everything was labelled Turbo.

Turbo microwaves, dishwashers, washing machines, hairdryers, even turbo computers.

      • +12

Gotta go get a copyright on Turbo AI.

      • +2

I had a Turbo button on my computer case that would clock my CPU up from 88 MHz to 122 MHz. It did not make any sensible difference to the performance though!

        • +1

Some games were unplayable unless you switched off the turbo button.

      • +3

Before that it was o-matic. The clean-o-matic 1960

    • this is a typical case of r/theyknew

    • I read it as “AI Star Anise”

This deal equates to a saving of $2031

Where the heck are you getting that from?! The regular price of the 7.0kW unit is $1999, it's on sale for $1699 and this code brings it down to the $1299. It's a good price, but it's not a $2000+ saving.

    • -1

When you add it to cart and apply the promo code it tells you that you are saving $2031 as the price of the outdoor unit is reduced from $1332 to $0

      • +1

That's pretty misleading from Samsung, they always throw the outdoor unit in for $0 when you buy the indoor one. The price they show there is if you buy the outdoor unit separately for some reason.

        • -2

Either way, good price for what it is. In comparison, i found a 2.5kw Mitsubishi air conditioner including installation for $1600. So The Samsung deal is quite good in comparison i guess.

  • Looks like the 5kw comes down to $1196 with that code. Only 7kw and 5kw units available. Looks like it's end of line as there are listing's with newer units

  • +2

I have one of these and wouldn’t rate it for cooling mode, but for heating works great.

On hot humid days it doesn’t make the air feel fresh and cool.
Outdoor unit fan would be humming away on low speed , only way to kick it into gear is by engaging the fast cooling mode for 20 minutes. Not a thermostat issue

    • Mmm does it go into air free mode my default maybe?

      • Nah I have fan speed on high.

The wind free is a gimmick, best use case would be for a bedroom 2.5kw unit if it was in front of you

    • Isn't that the point of the 'windfree' feature? Does the room cool down(based on a thermometer reading)

    • Is this not cooling only? The description doesn't mention heating?

      • +1

I don't think I've ever seen a split system that wasn't reverse cycle

        • +1

Go to North Queensland then, majority up there are cooling only models.

      • I believe its Cooling only. No mention of kW rating for heating cycle in specs.

        • It's there in Spec -> Specifications -> Rated capacity.

          Capacity (Cooling)

          6.80 kW

          Capacity (Heating)

          7.20 kW

Capacity (Cooling, Min - Max), kW

          1.4 ~ 7.6 kW

Capacity (Heating, Min - Max), kW

          1.2 ~ 9.4 kW

  • AI Smart Arse Air Conditioner $1299

    What does the AI do?

    • +7

I'm guessing it integrates like every other IoT device into the Skynet neural network-based conscious group mind and artificial general superintelligence system, and acts by increasing the temperature to unbearable levels inside, right when the T-3000 needs you to leave the safety of your home to be efficiently terminated.

but in the short term, the marketing people say:

      "Help save Energy*
      SmartThings AI Energy Mode
Monitor and help reduce the air conditioners energy use*. AI Energy mode lets you check the power use and allows you to estimate your electricity bill. By learning your usage patterns and analysing the room conditions, AI Energy mode can help reduce energy use* by adjusting the temperature and compressor frequency.

*Requires the use of the SmartThings app and a Samsung account"

"Smart AI remembers your preferred settings
      AI Auto Cooling
AI Auto Cooling* is designed to automatically optimise the various modes by analysing room conditions and usage patterns.** Based on your preferred temperature, it can automatically switch to the most appropriate mode to maintain desirable conditions."

      • Wasn't that interested until I read about this feature … does the T-3000 come included in the deal or is that an optional extra ?

    • It makes the air smart…

  • I’ve got 1 7kw and 3x 2.5kw #FlatRoofLife

They’re probably the most amazing split I’ve used for a long time and super efficient

  • Regardless of pricing confusion, it's a good price for a 7kW device from a known brand with a decent warranty.

As always you need to factor in installation.

    • +2

I was quoted around $600 - $700 for installation. So all up about $2000

      • -5

Ouch! 600-700$ is that normal? Seems rather steep.

        • +9

Probably cheap if anything. Sydney electricians won't answer the phone for less.

        • +6

to install an airconditioner? that's not expensive - its not exactly plug and play. I've been charged more to put in a few lights … and I supplied the lights

Especially if you expect them to supply cabling, breaker, isolator, possibly a base and/or rubber vibration pads to sit it on, probably some refrigerant pipe and/or lagging and possibly a cover (if the unit doesn't come with any) and maybe even some refrigerant (?)… not sure what comes with the unit.

Most people would probably even expect them to test commission it, and hang the remote bracket on the wall, and clean up after themselves (e.g. plaster dust from cutting into the wall etc to run the pipes and cable through), plus come qualified, licensed, insured, collect the GST and pay tax… and include their travel time, vehicle, and fuel, admin and overheads…. so that all takes time and money, probably for two people at least. and those two people are probably only doing 2-3 of such jobs a day - so sounds fair to me!

        • +3

If anything that's on the low side. I'd be wondering where the costs are cut here.

        • For 7KW simple back to back install (up to 3 metres piping) $1400 -$1500 from two private installers and around $1200 from Good Guys and Bunnings in Sydney. You could possibly find someone to do it for less, but $600-700 is the price from before covid, highly unlikely now.

          • @loropy9: Not hight unlikely at all. My electrician still charges 500-600 for a back to back install.

            • @BlitzR: That's a pretty good price, but can electricians install aircons? I thought they have to be certified hvac installers or whatever they are called. Shame you are in Brisbane, in would have been handy to have your installer's contact for future installs.

              • @loropy9: No clue about certs, but he has been doing electrical work (aircon too) for me as well as my relatives for over 15yrs.

      • Samsung includes basic installation service, am I wrong?
        https://www.samsung.com/au/shop-faq/delivery-and-installatio…

        • I can’t imagine this is the case for the price, maybe it is an optional extra that can be added to cart?

          PLUS EXTRAS

  • would this stack with the NSW energy rebate?

  • Is $1800 for the 8kw decent? We have a large open plan and I'm not sure the 7 will cover it.

    • Get a bigger unit. I have a large area and went the 9kw version. It does the job but still struggling in summer

    • Depends on the area size. We got 9kw for about 85sqm open area plus open stairwell leading to the hallway upstairs. It's adequate. I think 7kw would have to work very hard and probably be subject to a lot of wear and tear.

  • I bought 3 x 3kw units of this model for $700 each start of the year. All of them work perfectly. The quiet mode works great and does more than enough when cooling down a room in a minute or two.

    • I don't know much about AC units, but do they all connect to the same outside unit and share the same piping? My apartment seems to be set up like that, wondering if it's a normal setup if I want to upgrade my AC.

      • Likely a Multi Split Air Conditioning - you’ll need to replace all units at a time.

        • Each one has its own outside unit. I prefer this, that way if one goes out you replace the single one rather than all 3

          • @ThemDealsThough: I would prefer it in my apartment too, the setup we have sucks ass, the units seem to class with each other if they have different settings.

I imagine triplicating the copper tubing all the way down the hall to the area they keep the outdoor units would be quite expensive though. Also I'm not sure strata would allow me to have 3 outdoor units in there if there isn't room!

  • -2

Is this better than my ducted daikin

    • -1

i doubt it… ducted is often considered superior… but "ducted daikin" is a really general statement, and we couldn't really know from that little information.
It could be new or 15 years old, it could have been not sized properly or not properly maintained, or need better balancing or sensors - or could be perfect… plus if your house is poorly insulated and has a lot of western sun, it may perform worse than expected…. it's a long piece of string

  • Why is the outdoor unit 6.8kW when the indoor unit is 7kW.

    • It's either rounding for simple marketing purposes, or averaging… I wouldn't say the inside unit vs outside unit means anything useful, given they work together.

The system has a rated 6.8kw cooling capacity, and 7.2kW heating capacity - i.e. 7kW (but for the latter can technically go to a max of 9.4kW)

It also has a fairly efficient high COP and uses R32 which in theory is not as harmful as R410a for the environment also.

The poor man pays twice. Don't spend over $1k installing junk like this.

Buy a decent brand like Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Daikin, etc.

    • +1

You have raised the most important point here.
Quality, I can't speak for the upcoming Samsung ACs but the current and earlier splits can have high fail rates.
The last thing you want is annoying repairs due to quality issues.
The brands mentioned above are top of the class.

  • +3

There’s also Amex spend $500 Samsung get $100 back.

  • FYI - I ordered 2 x 7kw and 1 x 2.5kw in mid August. Still awaiting delivery.

Stock is limited and I am a bit worried they will cancel. I check on the order every week and they say its still coming.

    • I place and order for thr 7kw last night and got a pickup/delivery confirmation sms with ANC at 7am this morning. For next Tuesday (my nominated date)

  • Wait ….. is it Ai ?
It better be I don’t buy anything that’s not labeled ai

    • go back a few years it was also smart because it was wifi enabled, now it has to be Ai as well

      • Funny now it's turning around where if something has AI on the marketing that is seen as a bad thing. I recently purchased an LG TV, first thing I did is turn off all the AI crap in the settings.

  • Would that work with the Victorian Energy Upgrade program (VEU)?

    • Doesn't appear to be on the list of approved devices. There's only 3 wall mounted Samsung units and they're all fairly small.

      • That doesn't appear to be a good deal. I got a quote for a 20KW Midea mutli head with four indoor units at $2500 fully installed under VEU.

  • +5

Guys, avoid these Samsung units, we are doing 1000 installations per year and out of Daikin, Fujitsu, MHI, Mitsu Electric, Toshiba - Samsung has the highest number of issues and failures. The most scariest part that Samsung tends to fail after few years, while outher brands may have issues from day 1 and get replaced by warranty. The best is no doubt Daikin.

    • Great feedback. Do you supply and install?

You prefer your unit to fail straight away not after a few years.

Daikin is great but expensive to buy at retail compared to the other brands you recommended. That's probably why I only see them in the commercial environment.

      You also recommend Panasonic?

      • +1

Have a look at Midea if you want cheap, have installed quite a few and are reliable.

        • +1

I've also heard of only good things about Midea air conditioners (joint venture with or using Toshiba technology).

You would think that the Chinese such as Midea or Gree (biggest air cond manufacturers in the world) would be able make reliable air conditioners today as they aren't new technology anymore.

          • @JimB: Their warranty process is seamless as well which surprised me.

      • +1

Failure from day 1 can be due to some manufacturing issue and is much easier to claim repair vs after a few years when the warranty may have just run out.

I would also rate Panasonic with those mentioned above. I chose Panasonic ducted and it runs very well - quiet and very efficient. I chose it because of the Nano filtering and also how much lower it can ramp down compared to Mitsubishi and Daikin.

        • Yes Panasonic ducted is good but I do think the Nanoe X filtering is a bit of a gimmick.

If it filtered as well as a HEPA filter, you'll be complaining that you get no air flow :D

          • @JimB: Yeah I don't disagree. I was sold on the Panasonic due to the efficiency and amount it can ramp down.

The Nanoe X filtering is just a bonus, if it even does anything.

I had also read reports of Daikins in heating mode not really pumping out air that was that hot, so it can feel a bit cool on the skin. The Panasonic on the other hand when working to bring temp up in a room the air feels quite warm on the skin, not too dissimilar to gas ducted heating temperature.

    • Yes, this definitely heats. The expanded specifications give heating ratings and the manual linked on the page shows heating modes.

      • Ahh yes you are right, heating is mentioned when expanded cheers. Strange that only cooling is mentioned in the overview, and the marketing only talks about cooling. I have unpublished my comment so as not to confuse anyone.

  • If you have access to the Samsung Government or Student portals, the 7kW is down to $1199.40 delivered, while the 5kW is down to $1079 delivered.

    • How much is the 8kw please

    • I tired this last night and it was $100 or so dollars more?! Too late for me!

      • Too late for me!—why?

        • I bought already

    • The 7kw is showing $1,399.30 on the edu store for me.
