$1,200 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card with JB Hi-Fi Mobile 300GB $99/Month 24 Months Plan (Port-in, New Customer, in-Store Only) @ JB Hi-Fi

152

not a duplicate, but maybe more of an update, seems that they've upped it from 1100 to 1200 giftcard (can maybe stack with $100 bonus with 17 series phone?)
seems like a good deal, thinking maybe even trading in my 16 256, from the previous deal and get the base 17 for the better screen at basically no cost.

    $142 off essentially

    • From my calculations it's $101 off, but I could be wrong

      • +3

        $958.18 voucher repayment + $99 initial month = $1057.18, so $142.82

        • +1

on their site it says $1,000 for voucher repayment fee? I am seeing wrong?

        • +7

Imagine taking a hit on your credit score for $142.

          • @Maths Debater: hehee good one!

          • @Maths Debater: I took out 2 of these back when the voucher repayment fee was $800 with $1300 gc.. no hits at all on my experian or equifax files

            • +1

@Matt P: Utilities do show up on Equifax but they don't impact your score.

            • @Matt P: Per above. It comes up as an enquiry and may not impact your "score" per se.

  • +14

Just a warning that the Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee has been increased to $1000 from $800

    • aww man, they've caught on?! Shux

  • +2

Better off waiting to see if they up it to $1400+ for Black Friday or boxing day

    • -2

They won’t. The loophole is closed.

    • possibly, although curently if i trade in my 16 256, with the other deal of 100 bonus,

      it would be 760 + 100 bonus = 860, for device,
then sim swap for carrier , would be 1399 - 1200 = 200 but would need to pay back minimum 1000
      so 860 - 1000 = 140 right?

      • +1

        $1399 - $1200 + $958.18 + $99 - $760 - $100 = $396

However, the trade-in gets you a JB gift card of $860 (which JB Mobile / Telstra won't let you use to offset early termination payment).

        $1399 - $1200 + $958.18 + $99 = $1256.18 (out of pocket)
        $760 + $100 = $860 (JB gift card)

Unless you have a way to sell that $860 JB gift card for cash, you will need to buy something else from JB Hi-Fi to use it. The total amount you need to pay Telstra (for 1st month + early termination) is $1057.18. If you have another Telstra postpaid account with Telstra, then it is technically possible not to pay the first month and pay the full early termination fee of $1000 instead.

        • ah i see, I messed the maths up on it. hmmm back to the drawing board then.

          • @PS2isBetterthanPS3: You can use some of that trade in credit towards the phone purchase to reduce your out of pocket amount.

            $760 + $100 - $199 = $661 (JB gift card)
            $1399 - $1200 - $199 + $958.18 + $99 = 1057.18 (out of pocket)

Still need a way to use or sell that $661 JB gift card though.

    • Has it ever been higher than $1200?

  • So whats the cost if I sign up and then cancel righaway?

$1200 (voucher) - $1000 (repayment fee) - $99 (first month fee) = $101 in my pocket, am I doing this right?

    • +3

if this calculation is correct, isn't it better to just buy a JB gift card when they are 10% off? or am i missing something?

    • +2

You probably also waste at least 30 minutes of your time at JB hifi setting up the contract and cancelling it with Telstra

    • $1200 (voucher) - $99 (first month) - $958.18 (pro-rata early termination fee for 23 months) = $142.82.

So you end up with a $1200 JB gift card by paying $1057.18, saving roughly 11.19%.

  • How much can I save on the iphone 17 pro max 512gb if I do this deal?

    • Would that be 2600 - 1200 = 1400 + 800 + 99 or -99 if you can get a refund?

So it will cost $2200? for the 17 pro max 512gb $2600 model

    • This deal basically offers a saving of $142.82. So for iPhone Pro Max 512GB, that's $2456.18 out of pocket. Early termination fee has increased to $1000.

      $1200 (voucher) - $99 (first month) - $958.18 (pro-rata early termination fee for 23 months) = $142.82

If you somehow manage to get a really good rep to waive that $99, then $241.82 saving (but I wouldn't count on it).

  • Any chance to see this GC on a 24 months $89 plan like we saw few times before?

    • That only saves additional $10 (because you are going to cancel the plan within a month). The issue is the early termination fee is now $1000.

      • that’s alright, I dont plan on cancelling

  • +1

The $99 plan is $79 for first 12 months at telstra directly. Any chance to get the discounted plan for a double dip?

    • Would also like to know this

  • Dumb question - how long do you need to stay with another service?

I am currently with JB - Telstra, out of contract, so I can switch to another, and switch it back right away for the offer?

    Thanks!

    • Yep but make sure you switch to a non-Telstra network for 28 days min I think (a calendar month to be safe). I checked with a JB staffer who confirmed the policy.

I churned to Optus for a month or two and did this in January.

      • Alright 28 days it is. Thanks for the information.

  • +1

Sorry but this is not a deal any longer. Guess the JBHIFI folks got wise.

  • +1

Yes, this is not a real deal. Just headache in dealing with all sort of things. Not worth it. They increased the termination fee and also decreased the voucher.

  • Seems an end of era
