Already a deal up for this one > https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/904858

    • +2

You will get an extra $3.

    • +2

Not the same. The other deal is only for the base model:

      Excludes iPhone 16 256GB/512GB, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16e & iPhone 16 Pro/Max models.

  • +1

What price would I be looking at for the iPhone 16 pro max range? How does one calculate the payout figure?

    • -4

Only applies to base model iphone 16.

      • +6

Nah. It’s the iPhone 16 range excluding 16e

    • +29
      1. Whatever the cost of the phone - (minus) $1400 + $99 (first month fee)

      2. When you get home, request to cancel the service ~$800 (approx)

      3. Total cost is 1 + 2

Eg pro max 256 is $2147
      You’ll pay $2147 - $1400 + $99 = $846 (upfront in store)
      Cancellation approx $800
      Total cost $846 + $800 = $1,646

      • Do you know what the receipt will show if I go through with this?
I'm travelling overseas soon and wonder if I could utilise the TRS with this purchase

        • +1

The receipt will show the cost of the phone purchase. You’ll need to get them to also include your details on the receipt.

          • @Heybargain: Ah okay, so likely will be the $846 in the example above. Thank you for the details reminder!

            • +1

@Kevinzoid: No, should be the full amount minus $1400 voucher. But tax should be for the full price

              • @dosada: Even better. Still on the fence, but might be buying tomorrow. Thank you!

                • +1

@Kevinzoid: Would like to chime in here. It would say the full 2147.

I did the same a few months ago.

If there are any discount codes, those are subtracted, otherwise it is mentioned on the invoice..

Just got 3 yesterday, canclled today. Got charged $766/or something for one (which has a 99$ first month fee), $800 for other 2 as I didnt get charged 99 first month fee for those. 15 Days to pay it.

          • @ffagz: All 3 from same store or different stores? What's the next thing you are gona do?

            • -2

              @ChipsChicky: Sell those for a profit :)

              • @OZBsince2018: Nope. They are for the kids upgrade. Paid $100 a price and got them new phones vs their 4 year old junkers.

            • @ChipsChicky: Yes. Gonna get me a pixel fold pro.

              • @ffagz: Don’t buy Pixel Fold Pro mate. You will regret it. I bought it with so much excitement but couldn’t bear it for more than 2 months.

                • @OZBsince2018: Oh really? Thats a shame. Even at a net price of 1000$ ?

        • So now what Ffagz got ie. Paying $800 not available now ?

          • @tychiang82: I think @Maths Debater correct, the repayment fee $800 is still there. :)

          • @tychiang82: The correct procedure is for them to charge you the first month's plan fee of $99 making the cancellation fee $766.67. If they don't charge you the first month's plan fee, the cancellation fee is $800. It depends on the staff member.

      • So $501 off a phone assuming the cost of the phone is $1400 or more to begin with.

        • 560-600

      • +2

so basically, u need to pay $1646 for a 128gb iphone 16 pro max (if 16 pro max is available)…..it is still quite expensive.

The iphone 16 128gb shall costs $899 then

        • +1

          u need to pay $1646 for a 128gb iphone 16 pro max…

Or you can paid full price of $2147 for pro max… but there is no 128GB for pro max, start from 256GB.

          • @dlovep: Someone got the iphone pro max before travelling to oversea. This deal shall only be applicable to people who intend to travelling soon.

            "2149 - price beat costco - 5% =1976.

            10% Gift card = 1976 - 197.6 = 1774.8

            GST Refund = 1774.8 - 179 = $1595

            1595 / 2147 =74.3 % off current RRP.

Also I got roughly 1976 flybuys points from giftcards purchase and almost 10k of flybuys points from iphone purchase in Officeworks."

For people who would like to get a iphone within Aus only, I think the JB hifi plan is the best price. (i.e. $1646 for 256gb)

  • Better off taking up the pixel fold offer and then using the profit toward an iPhone

    • +4

Sorry, what profit are you referring to?

      • The money left over after selling the Pixel Fold (minus the cancellation fee if you cancel)

        • Or if you're really really lucky you can return the pixel fold and get the value back in gift card.

          • @CodeXD: Does that still work?

            • +2

@nightelves: No it doesn't work. And if you get caught be prepared to be treated like a scum who tried to steal. Sure, some might get lucky if the manager authorizing the refund not doing their dilligent, but the same thing can be said if you steal from a store you might get lucky not to be caught.

          • @CodeXD: Did the similar thing with S25 pre-order since it was delayed.
            Interested whether this works

          • @CodeXD: yup. depends on the store. can up-end get an iphone 16 pro max!

            • @ffagz: Exactly what I did. Signed up for fold, changed straight in store for the 16 pro max

              • @dosada: Did you do that straight away. Jesus - what a hack!

                • +1

@RalphEddie: you have to be willing to take the risk that it might not work and you still end up with a fold. I asked in a few stores and they said its not possible. YMMV

                  • @svs500: If you asks, no stores is gonna allow it. Just like you mention you need to risk end up with Pixel Fold. Pretty sure the guy who succesfully swap his phone was not telling his fold phone come from Telstra deal

              • @dosada: So sign up for pixel fold plan, cancel, ask for refund of pixel, get iPhone plan, cancel?

                so 2195 - 2000 + 799 + 99 - 2195 + 1997 (256GB Pro) - 1400 + 799 + 99 ?

which would be $393 out of pocket??

              • @dosada: Is my understanding correct?

You signed up for the fold, i.e. paid 2195 minus 2000 plus 99 first month. Net 294 out of pocket.
You then cancelled it and paid another 800. Net 1094 out of pocket.
You then returned the fold and got refunded $2195 but got to keep the 2000 voucher because the 800 is actually a voucher repayment fee and covers it? So at this point you're in profit 1101?
You then buy the pro max for 1997 less 1400. So now you're $504 in profit.
You then cancelled the plan paying 800 + 99 for the first month. So in effect you paid 395 for the iphone pro max outright?

  • Did they fix the voucher repayment fee in Telstra terms? Now I see
If you received a JB Hi-Fi Voucher when you purchased your Mobile Service and you cancel
that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term, you must pay us the outstanding
amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Voucher you received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Voucher
    Repayment Fee).

So that means if we cancel in first month, we have to pay $1400 / 24 * 23 instead of fix $800 like couple of weeks ago.

    • +5

Based off their critical information summary page, the maximum of the Voucher Repayment Fee is $800. So if that information is the most current, then the cap on any repayment, including the $1400 / 24 * 23, would be $800?

      • +1

oh yeah, the summary stated $800. so hopefully this repayment correct!

        • +1

Yeah, it says ‘base Voucher’ amount, which is $800

    • -1

      Yep

They will bill you for the difference

      • The way it it reads is based on the $1400

        Not $800

        • +1

It's definitely the $800. Signed up today and they even give you a print out that says the fee is $800

    • +4

Nothing has changed. The maximum voucher repayment fee is still $800 for the $99 plan. Given you must pay for the first month upfront, the actual fee is $766.67 pro rata.

      https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…

    • +2

No. you still pay 800. Infact they print it out and mentions it clearly.
Just got 3 yesterday and canclled today - got charged 766/800/800

      • Wow what a baller

        One in each pocket

  • Just called and confirm it’s anything except 16e

    • Understandable, given it’s worth less than $1400.

  • I tried signing up for a second account today and got rejected. Not sure why. Even the guy from JB couldn't understand why. When he submitted the request it rejected.

    • +1

Maybe because you just cancelled the previous iPhone 16 plan. You need at least 30 days before you can apply again. It happened to me before, I applied within a month then I got rejected

      • They said it is a second account. It could have something to do with the credit check. Who knows.

      • +1

That’s not true, someone actually managed to sign up for 3 numbers in a single day during the previous deal. So I don't think the 30 day rule applies strictly.

        • Exactly right. Seperate numbers have no bearing on the offer. It’s only if you’re trying to do this with the same number within 30 days.

        • +2

You can apply 3 numbers in one day no problem. What I mean is if you have applied earlier then apply again after a week or two you may get rejected especially if you have cancelled the service as you applied within 30 days.

          • @AirJordan23: Yeah. I cancelled one service on Friday. Signed up for another deal on Saturday for my son. Tried to another today for my wife and got rejected. I used an Aldi sim to port across. I suspect it's due to the cancelled service even though I had paid out the $766 owing

            • +1

@Duece1995: Yeah, it was all about the cancelled service. As you just recently cancelled a service you won’t be able to apply within 30 days. Maybe if you have not cancelled, maybe you can apply within 30 days. Who knows

            • @Duece1995: That has nothing to do with cancelling a service. I will say it again if you want to acknowledge my replies, or if you don't, I could care less either way. They will only cancel if you try it again with the same number. If you tried to do it with different numbers, it's a completely separate matter.

              • @Maths Debater: I didn't try it with the same number. I tried porting an Aldi mobile. The guy was fairly new so perhaps he stuffed up with the application.

                • @Duece1995: When I experienced this, I was trying to port in a new number not my personal number. Got rejected, I was told by the JB staff (more than 6 years working at JB) that you cannot apply within 30 days as Telstra is flagging those people cancelling and applying again within the time period.

                  • +1

@AirJordan23: It won’t work if you’re trying to do it with multiple numbers in your name, yes. It has to be in someone else’s name.

  • Does anyone know if Port In exclusions include BELONG (owned by Telstra), like Boost, Telstra etc?

    • +2

      MVNO’s are accepted.

    • +4

get a $5 aldi sim. works like a charm.

      • So port to Aldi, then port to JB ?

        • +4

nope get a new sim, activate it (will need a DL) gets done in 10 mins.
Go to jbhifi, if approved for the device you will get a code SMS on your number - provide that to the jb hifi guy and he gives you a new sim with the same number.
if you want to cancel, do that - you will lose that number - but it was a burner one anyway.

        • +1

If you are with a Telstra MVNO, there is no reason to port out per my prior comment.

          • +1

@Maths Debater: I'm actually with BOOST, but was going to Port to BELONG, (or Aldi as per ffagz comment)
So you are correct and Thank you for the info

            • +1

@GC67: Only Boost and Belong can’t be used to port in, all other providers should be fine.

    • Was rejected using Boost last month

  • +4

Im sure its a great phone but this was the phone I was gonna get but then its just a crappy mid gen release with AI features that dont even work. I'm gonna wait for the 17. I'm still rocking the 14 pro max.

    • +6

Absolutely no reason to upgrade yet.

      • do you think deals like this will release not long after the release of the iphone 17?

        • Yeah, they run these deals all the time. Even with newly released models.

      • Unless you’re getting an upgrade for free.
Get the pixel fold, swap for iPhone 16 pro max and sell your aging phone for 800-900.
Net out of pocket 0-200$ max.

    • +1

Sme here. Snagged one for the missus during the last sale. Great price great phone, nothing wrong with it but just not exciting enough. Still happily rocking my 14 Pro.

      • Stupid TV! Be more funny.

    • Even the 17 is going to be a downgrade from the 14 Pro Max. If you want an upgrade you'll need the 17 Pro Max.

  • I’m rocking the 13pro max :-P still going strong and good battery life. But tempted.
Can I jump onto this deal even though I’m on the jbhifi byo $59/mth plan and port over?

    • +1

No, it’s port in only. You need to port out and back in again.

    • +1

get a $5 aldi sim. get the new phone. trade your old for cash. Iphone 13 pro max 128g worth 600$ Net out of pocket is either 160, 200 or 260 - depending if you get 99$ waived or dont get charged (depends on billing cycle)
      .

    • +2

Trade in your 13 pro max
I did this last month and got $560 credit that I used towards the phone

In the end it ends up being about $726 (including TRS, $560 credit back, $1400 discount, $5 sim and $99 fee)

  • who do you contact to cancel the plan.

  • Is it possible to trade in old iPhone (12pro) and use the voucher against the purchase of this phone, or is it all under a fixed $ value contract ?

    • +1

yes, you can. they will issue a voucher valued to your iphone which you can use to pay for the difference - remeber though you are getting 1400$ so you need to buy something of higher value to make the most of the trade.

Alternatively trade it in for cash or sell it on the marketplace.

      • Thanks ffagz - Do you know if they can do the trade instore, or does it have to be via the website ?

        • +1

Website only. You get the credit within 10 min of applying for it

          • @dimple: don't you have to send it in first for a physical check?

            • @Frozensage: No, they give you a credit based on what you state. If it’s different they can change you on the cc you use to secure. For eg based on your trade in it’s $200 and when they evaluate the phone it’s got damage etc they may give you less say $100. They will then charge your cc on file for the reminder.
