Stuck Waiting 18–24 Months for Qantas CC Bonuses – Alternatives?

Hi all,

I’ve pretty much exhausted all the Qantas credit card options. The issue I’m facing now is that as we all know most banks have increased the waiting period (18–24 months) before I can reapply and be eligible for another Qantas sign-up bonus. At this point, I don’t see any Qantas cards left that are worth applying for.

I was thinking of switching focus to Velocity sign-up bonuses instead, but it seems tricky since a lot of the Velocity cards are tied to the same banks I’ve already held Qantas cards with.

What are you guys applying for in this situation? Do you just wait out the 18–24 months, or have you found worthwhile alternatives (Velocity, hotel points, cashback, etc.) in between?

Thanks!

This game is hardly worth playing now. Less opportunity to earn bonus points and very few classic rewards around. I no longer see the point.

Yeah it’s getting worse. Tho from the way I think about it, I’ll spend the money anyway, whether using existing or new card. So might as well gain the benefit of sign up offer, even though its not as good.

  • I would go with Amex, they had decent sign up bonuses including points and flight vouchers (points are transfarable to Krisflyer, Qatar or Virgin) and they also offer some ongoing cashback deals in their app. I haven't used them for a couple of years now, but most large retailers accepted the card from memory. Otherwise, maybe go with a card outside of the big 4 e.g. Citi?

Yeah all are bad now tbh.
I’m sitting on the 24month lock out as well after getting nearly 500k points in a year.

One year for Qantas, one year for Velocity.

I've been doing the rounds for 10 years or so now, and while it's worse it's still very doable. You need to look into T&Cs and double up as well. For example fairly sure you can do 3 ANZ cards - one for Velocity, one for Qantas, and one as a straight $ cashback within the one time period.

Should be able to clear at least $2000 yearly still without any issue if not $3000-$4000 of points.

    • Thanks! I had a quick look at the NAB Rewards card that can transfer to Velocity, but it says you’re not eligible if you’ve held a NAB Rewards card in the past 24 months. When I checked their Qantas card, it’s listed as the NAB Qantas Rewards Card and grouped separately on their site from the standard NAB Rewards cards. Do you know if it means they’re considered different products, even though both have ‘Rewards’ in the name?

    • Btw, ANZ seems like a no-go. It has this on their terms and conditions "You are not eligible for this offer if you currently hold or have held an ANZ Rewards or Frequent Flyer credit card in the last 24 months." If it works before, I guess it's new

  • Does this card still have no exclusion period? At a glance I can’t see one.
