Scroll down on the deal link to "Get the best trade-up value on iPhone 17 or iPhone Air"
Buy any iPhone 17 or iPhone Air model between 12 Sep and 10 Oct, then trade in an eligible phone to get $300 bonus credit on top of the value of your phone. Plus, if you get a better value Trade-In quote between buying your new iPhone and within 21 days of receiving it, we’ll match it.
You need to be a Telstra Personal or Small Business customer with an active mobile service to be eligible to both trade up and make a value-match claim.
Copying detailed analysis from the JB deal commented here.
Managed to go in one of the stores today, here's what the Telstra rep shared which might or might not work differently online as opposed to instore:
- Both Trade in & $300 Bonus offer works on outright purchase
- BUT both Trade in and Bonus offer only allowed if you have a valid Telstra ID with an active Post Paid Service
- The straightaway refused to do on JB Mobile plans, actually the tone changed when I brought the JB convo, "They are a separate company from us!!"
- Bonus offer is only applicable on preorders before 19th, basically by EOBD tomorrow if doing in person
- The trade in value needs to be locked in by tomorrow but you can return your device anytime in the next 30 days
- [Rep seemed a bit confused on this one] The Trade in value would be reimbursed to you in your Bank Account after you trade in at a later date
- I'm assuming based on the above point that we have to originally pay the full device amount which is fair
- The $300 Bonus will also be sent to the **Bank Account*
- The trade in value might depreciate after launch, they can't guarantee that which indicated that we only have until tomorrow to get the most benefit out of this offer
Based on this information I asked if I can do it on a new service since I'm already locked into JB plan from a previous GC deal and she understood the intent and suggested that the cheapest plan available at the moment is their "Starter Plan" if I remember the name correctly which is for $50 and I can signup, use for 1 month and before the end of the month end the service without any lock in contract. Now I couldn't find the $50 plan with a quick search on their website so that might just be an instore plan.
So based on this I think these are the numbers for an example that we can use to make the decision if its worth the hassle or not against the JB deal:
Example:
iPhone 15 Pro 128 GB no major damage but simple scratches (arguably not "As new" condition)
JB HiFi:
- Trade-In value: $745
- Trade-In Bonus: $100
- Total Off: $845
On top of this you can stack Jb HiFi GCs to pay off the remaining balance with ~10% off if you have any so approx:
- Total Off with GC: 960.5 ($845 + ~$115.5 for base iPhone 17 Pro)
Telstra:
- Telstra Trade-In value: $710
- Monster Trade In Value (As New): $830 -> I doubt anyone qualifies for this YMMV
- Monster Trade In Value (Working): $790 -> More realistic -> Telstra hopefully matches this
- Trade-In Bonus: $300
- Total Off: $1090
- Hassle to Benefit:
** With JB GC: $129.5
** Without JB GC: $245
This diminishes if you're getting a new $50 plan just for the first month:
- Total Off: $1040
- Hassle to Benefit without an active service already:
** With JB GC: $79.5
** Without JB GC: $195
Is it worth the hassle of going in store, subscribing to a new plan, waiting for the phone to be delivered (which it seems Telstra is notorious for not being able to track) and then finally cancelling the service after a month? That's a question we can think about tonight haha.
Not any phone unfortunately.
