    • Is your 16pm the 1TB variant? I am only getting a quote of $1090 for the 256GB one.

      • +5

Ah i traded it through someone else. I can see how my comment could be interpreted the other way.

        • who was it?

    • Where?
Most i could find for my 256gb 16 pro max was 1150

      • +1

FB Marketplace rates as far as I know:

    iPhone 14 Pro Max 256 GB - $900
    iPhone 15 Pro Max 256 GB - $1200
    iPhone 16 Pro Max 256 GB - $1600

    iPhone 15 Pro 256 GB - $1000
    iPhone 16 Pro 256 GB - $1200

    iPhone 16 128 GB - $900
    iPhone 16 256 GB - $1100

    Yes, it's shit.

    • +8

      iPhone 15 Pro 128 GB - $900 - $1000, plus difficult to sell.

Got $850 from JB with the $100 extra deal. Much easier.

      • how did you get 850 for 15 pro 128 gb its showing 745 for me

        • $745 + $100 extra coupon

          • +2

@gembel: understood. I have just come across another deal with Telstra where they are offering bonus $300 on top of your trade-in for outright phones too; however, you need to have a telstra id which you can get with a $17 prepaid sim. Hope this helps

            • @Anchit27: But I guess thats only applicable if you sign up for a plan. Not for outright purchase.

              • +4

@OZBsince2018: I just confirmed with them over chat, and they said it is applicable for outright phones too, but you need to do this in-store so they can instantly give you trade-in credit towards outright phones.

                • @Anchit27: Thats good to know..

                • @Anchit27: But what's the trade-in value? Will it be the same as JB or shittier?

                  • @marshmall0w2: It is the same, they also said they will price match if you have a better trade-in value ( not sure who they will agree to price match) just to give you an idea, JB is giving me 745 for 15 pro 128 gb, and Telstra is giving me 725

                    • +1

                      @Anchit27: So 725 + 300 = 1025?

                    • +2

@Anchit27: that deal is probably worthy of its own ozbargain post honestly

                      • @bAps: True but I would better check with them in store before posting it here.

                • @Anchit27: How long this promo valid to?

            • @Anchit27: where is this deal advertised?

              • @chadleyshe: Telstra website

                • @Anchit27: Yeah October 10. Seems like a good deal. Can trade in my 14 pro 256 GB for $850 in store. I will do that once the 2 weeks hype died down abit

                • @Anchit27: Link? im not seeing it and i am logged in to my telstra account.

                  • @Laserface: Just search telstra trade-in under iphone 17 pro pre-order page

            • +2

@Anchit27: I assume the $17 prepaid sim you are referring is the $49 pre-paid mobile plan, of which is on sale for $17?

My only worry is when I'm reading the T&C's I find this:

Telstra Trade-In is managed by Assurant Services Australia Pty Ltd. To be eligible for Telstra Trade-In, you must be a Telstra consumer or small business customer aged 18+, with a post-paid service and have a device, tablet or smartwatch with us on an Upfront plan or with an existing 13-digit account number

              • @eltito: best to check with them instore.

              • @eltito: Also under FAQ for "What does good condition mean?" it lists:
                - includes a fully functioning battery
                Would this mean >80%?

            • +1

@Anchit27: Are you sure it works on prepaid plans?
              https://www.telstra.com.au/trade-in#iphone17
"To be eligible for trade-in, you'll need an active Telstra mobile service on a post-paid plan.
Your trade-in credit will be applied to this nominated Telstra mobile account.
              Trade-In Bonus
Purchase any new iPhone 17 model during the offer period and trade in an eligible device to receive an additional $300 bonus on top of the standard trade-in value."

            • @Anchit27: I think this is definitely a nicer deal, do you think this will work if you're already on JB Mobile (Telstra) plan and you buy outright?

Maybe it's late night effect but took me a while to find the deal, Link for anyone else interested, scroll down to Get the best trade-up value on iPhone 17 or iPhone Air

              • @ozjudas: My only question is whether this additional bonus will be deducted from the phone price for outright purchase, or credited to the Telstra account. As per terms mentioned, it looks it will be credited to the Telstra account, and adjusted from the future bills, if thats the case, won’t be a good deal for outright purchase.

                • @OZBsince2018: fair point, @Anchit27 mentioned above that if you go instore they reduce it from the outright amount as well. I'll try to go in a bit and report back. Not sure if @Anchit27 has already tried or not.

                  • @ozjudas: Thanks. Let us know how do go about it when purchasing outright

                  • +1

@ozjudas: Ok so I managed to go in one of the stores, here's what the Telstra rep shared with me which might or might not work differently online as opposed to instore (maybe it deserves its separate deal post but I've already spent too much time off work today, need to catchup):

                    • Both Trade in & $300 Bonus offer works on outright purchase
                    • BUT both Trade in and Bonus offer only allowed if you have a valid Telstra ID with an active Post Paid Service
                    • The straightaway refused to do on JB Mobile plans, actually the tone changed when I brought the JB convo, "They are a separate company from us!!"
                    • Bonus offer is only applicable on preorders before 19th, basically by EOBD tomorrow if doing in person
                    • The trade in value needs to be locked in by tomorrow but you can return your device anytime in the next 30 days
                    • [Rep seemed a bit confused on this one] The Trade in value would be reimbursed to you in your Bank Account after you trade in at a later date
                    • I'm assuming based on the above point that we have to originally pay the full device amount which is fair
                    • The $300 Bonus will also be sent to the **Bank Account*
                    • The trade in value might depreciate after launch, they can't guarantee that which indicated that we only have until tomorrow to get the most benefit out of this offer

Based on this information I asked if I can do it on a new service since I'm already locked into JB plan from a previous GC deal and she understood the intent and suggested that the cheapest plan available at the moment is their "Starter Plan" if I remember the name correctly which is for $50 and I can signup, use for 1 month and before the end of the month end the service without any lock in contract. Now I couldn't find the $50 plan with a quick search on their website so that might just be an instore plan.

So based on this I think these are the numbers for an example that we can use to make the decision if its worth the hassle or not:

                    Example:

iPhone 15 Pro 128 GB no major damage but simple scratches (arguably not "As new" condition)

                    JB HiFi:
                    • Trade-In value: $745
                    • Trade-In Bonus: $100
                    • Total Off: $845

On top of this you can stack Jb HiFi GCs to pay off the remaining balance with ~10% off if you have any so approx:

                    • Total Off with GC: 960.5 ($845 + ~$115.5 for base iPhone 17 Pro)
                    Telstra:
                    • Telstra Trade-In value: $710
                    • Monster Trade In Value (As New): $830 -> I doubt anyone qualifies for this YMMV
                    • Monster Trade In Value (Working): $790 -> More realistic -> Telstra hopefully matches this
                    • Trade-In Bonus: $300
                    • Total Off: $1090
                    • Hassle to Benefit:
                      ** With JB GC: $129.5
                      ** Without JB GC: $245

Is it worth the hassle of going in store, subscribing to a new plan, waiting for the phone to be delivered (which it seems Telstra is notorious for not being able to track) and then finally cancelling the service after a month? That's a question we can think about tonight haha.

With how much I've written, Should have just made a new post, lol, hope it helps someone

                    • @ozjudas: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/924578

here we go, maybe we can get more inputs from the OZB fam to make a better decision

                    • @ozjudas: also the above diminishes if you're getting a new $50 plan just for the first month:

                      • Total Off: $1040
                      • Hassle to Benefit without an active service already:
                        ** With JB GC: $79.5
                        ** Without JB GC: $195
    • I doubt anyone will buy iPhone 16 Pro Max 256 GB for $1600 on FB marketplace.
I have one with 100% battery health, just checked the JB Hifi trade in value comes out $1,090+$100=$1,190. Quite on the low side.

      • Lol you'd be surprised. Some are going $1800 still

        • One can always dream, no harm 🙂

        • +1

Fascinating isn't it, standard discount combo of 10% off gift cards + TRS get's you the $2149 phone for $1740 net (this year $2199->$1780), maths even better if you fall upon 15% off gift cards

        • How do you know they are selling for that amount?

          • @topherboi: Well, they are selling for that amount. Sold is a different matter.

            • @marshmall0w2: I think you mean they're being advertised for that amount, selling/sold implies they are selling/being sold for that amount.

      • Price match webuyback with mobile monster you can get $1250+30

    • $890 for my iPhone 15 Pro 256GB with the additional bonus is pretty good imo - selling on marketplace is just a hassle and a half and through eBay you are copping 5595% in fees

  • +8

So glad my perfect iPhone 12 mini with 96% battery health can be "recycled" and is worth zero.

    • Number 1 rookie mistake: Not minimising depreciation loss by selling and getting a new phone for effectively $300 per year. /s

      • +1

That's unironically not a bad idea actually.

        • True, but on these calculations that $2000 phone could be worth nothing in 4-5 years time. Opportunity cost. Spend money to save money is a great strategy. /s

  • +1

Trade in an iphone 13 and got 295+100 = $395. I could probably try hard to sell $400 in FB Market.

    • The telstra deal above is much better.

      • Oh damn, 300 sounds much better deal.

    • That’s what I’m planning with my 13. I feel $400 on FB is gonna be a stretch..

  • Trade in an iphone 13 and got 118+100 = $218 It's crazy, I have no issues with my phone, no scratches, just normal use……

    • really? i just did the trade in quote for my 128gb iphone 13 and it was $295 (not including the bonus $100).

      • Sorry, I ordered the wrong one, also 298

  • So if you want hassle free this works out a little better. Considering battery is < 80%, mobile monster and others are better for battery > 80%
Your trade-in device: iPhone 14 Pro Max
    Apple Trade-in Value - A$725
    Assurant Trade-in credit offer - $675 +(100$ this offer)

  • Already bought the phone from JB…can I bring in an old i13 and just get a JB gift card?

    • probably just give them a ring hey

    • yea me too. it's a shame that the promo only went out after the pre-order on the 12th!
did you give them a call?

  • +1

    Worst trade in value ever

  • Any good offer 12pro to exchange 😎

  • $550 for a 13 pro max, I already checked the trade in value after the 17 got announced and it was the same trade in value so do they add the $100 after or is it a misleading deal?

    • +3

the $100 is added on top of the trade in quote afaik

      • Ah ok perfect, thanks

  • +1

My iphone 15 pro 256gb, jb hifi trade-in $790+$100, mobile monster $870-$910 as new condition

    • From what I hear Mobile Momster's As New condition is very stringent, even the slightest of scratches on the sides are deemed too much. So unless you have a pristine device after 2 years of use, you're down to working condition which is $790. Obviously YMMV!

Also when I search, As New condition shows up as $870 not $870-$910.

  • -1

$1,145 for a 16 pro 512Gb, $245 more than i paid for it 10 months ago lol new too.
Probs what would get on FBM or maybe $100 more.
    edit, same as MM offering.

  • iPhone 13 Pro 512GB = $470 + $100. Nah, keeping for 3 more years.

    • I’m same but 256GB. Following the Telstra offer above in comments, I think I can offer-match $540 from MobileMonster then get bonus $300, so $840 seems pretty fair? If I’ve understood correctly

      • That $300 is discount for iPhone 17 only. Thing is, I'm not ready to pay for new 17 even with this discount.
I'm after 15 Pro or 16 Pro and will be happy with "as new" refurbs.
I guess deal is not for me :)

        • Want a 15 Pro Max?

          • @Bargearse: just pro please, max is too big for my pants pockets.

    • Just wondering where you bought your 16pro at that price?

  • -1

    $252 for a 15 Plus 256gb :/

    • +1

      I got $590+$100 for a 15 Plus 128gb

    • +3

      $252 for a 15 Plus 256gb can't be true.

  • Did people buy plus phones?

  • I read this as iPhone 13 “series”, and was wondering why my Mini wasn’t getting the extra $100

EDIT: Are 17 Pro / Pro Max phone excluded?

    • 17 pro and Pro max are included in the bonus deal.

  • +2

For those who have done it in the past, or planning to do it - how do you package your iPhone?

I'm keen on taking advantage of this offer, as it looks like the highest of the trade in offers (iPhone 15 Pro 128gb) but unsure if I should buy a tiny box or maybe the envelope with bubble wrap inside that Aus Post sell or maybe use the box of the new iPhone to package it up.

Trade in for iPhone 15 Pro 128gb:
    Mobile Monster are offering $825,
    Apple - $670;
Telstra - $710 (however offer bonus of $300).

Telstra is the best with the $300 bonus, but I'm wanting to buy it outright, and from the T&C it looks like Telstra apply the $300 as a credit on your bill (after the fact).

  • +2

I did this process yesterday. Originally the deal was to expire yesterday but seems they extended it. Maybe not as many people buying iPhone 17's as they thought.

I have an iPhone 15 Pro with 128gb. My trade in price was $745 and you get the extra $100 coupon.

Essentially what happens is you click to purchase the phone (iPhone 17 pro 256G for me - $1999) and you enter the $100 coupon. The price for the phone is now $1899 (this is the receipt you get). You then apply the trade in of $745. Which then means I paid $1154 for my new phone.

The trade-in people keep the $745 lock on your credit card. I have two months in which to send in my old phone. They will unlock the $745 credit when they receive the phone. So at the moment I have paid $1899 on my credit card but they will give me $745 back.

    • +1

When do you see the $100 credit? I am only getting $240 for my 13 Mini, does it show as you’re doing the trade-in? Or is a coupon emailed afterwards.

      • +2

the $100 is a coupon, you activate the coupon from the trade in confirmation/tracking page

      • +2

You get two emails. One is the $100 coupon code and the other is the $745 voucher for trade in. They are treated separately. $100 you get off the full price and then use your voucher to get $745 off that new price.

So essentially you are getting an iPhone for $100 cheaper. And then you use your trade-in voucher for part of your payment.

    • Wouldn’t the Telstra deal be better for you?

      • some people like me have accumulated JB Hifi gift cards through deals regularly. I prefer to use my gift cards to pay the balance

      • I was under the impression for the Telstra deal you needed to get a Telstra plan. But maybe you don't. For me, this is just easier and I've traded with JB before so I know how it all works.

        • +2

nah you need a post paid plan. So it will cost you at least another $70 to sign up for 1 month to then get the offer and then cancel your telstra plan.

  • Your money your choice but seeing a few selling their 16 pro/pro max for 17 series is absolutely mind-blowing for me.. haha

    • +3

Agree. Not a meaningful performance difference, just the design that too if you go for iPhone Air
