Seems like a decent deal on an 'entry' coffee grinder, seems to have alright reviews based on some coffee snobs connoisseurs on reddit.
can save a little extra if you have ebay plus, (haven't had a deal recently to renew, so not sure on plus pricing )

      updated thanks,

    • a flat burr would have been good but no chance at that price.

  • is this decent for coarse grinds for v60 etc?

    • +1

based on what ppl say, seems to perform good with courser grinds but when comparing to some eureka grinders for espresso .
but med to darker roasts should be good with this.

  • It was $169 before code a few days ago.

    • If you scroll down that listing, it shows other items from the same seller and there is an icon for this very same item listed as $169. When you click on it, it comes back to the same listing but shows $199.

      • good catch, is that grabbing/ cashed listing price or auto applying code? stiill think its a good price

This was $131 just around 10 days ago

Had this a few months. Very good for the price. Heaps better than my Baratza Encore ESP. Still has some retention, and the grinds are rather static-ey. I found the grinds cup a bit long to scoop beans from my particular container, so I use my old Baratza one instead. I just do espresso, and use the normal speed grinding (slow was crap). It's very quiet and quick.
Edit: Paid $140 from same ebay seller. Got 2 codes to work…. somehow!
And I use medium roast Aldi beans.

    • Interesting i thought i had a static issue but you have confirmed it wonder if there is anything we can do to reduce it as its only thing I can fault it on for the price

        Just do RDT

      • +1

I've been told to lightly spritz your beans with water right before grinding. I've had mixed success with this. And I worry (stupidly?) that introducing moisture into the grinder could be detrimental long term. I do a bit of banging to get the grinds out, then use a WDT and tamp. Also, I think the supplied metal cup may be stickier for the static-ey beans. Think plastic could be a tad better.

        • Some plastics could actually be worse for static. If it’s a problem you could try earthing the cup which should prevent static build up. That is if you can find a way to do easily/safely.

  • Any Hibrew coffee roasters?

      Hi bro

      Is this deal kosher?

  • Is it still worth it when the burr size goes under the 64mm (df64) and 54mm (df54) anymore?
Keen to explore grinder upgrades from Breville's integrated Barazza grinders

    • +1

I looked at the Hibrew as a grinder for work (the BSG was not doing it for me and I was
Busting to upgrade). I ended up going with the Starseeker E55 which has a 55 mm burr instead of the Hibrew which only has 48 mm. The price difference was not substantial. So far it’s been really great and the retention of the coffee grounds is quite low.

      • I have the same machine, I need to pat harder to get everything out, althought I don't mind. Owned it for 3 months. now I start to home roast.

  • Hibrew Coffee Grinder

Can it be used on the Sabbath?

    • Only if you don't turn it on.

This was $169 plus 22% off with ebay plus just a couple of weeks ago. So, no deal i guess

I currently use a Breville Smart Grinder Pro, which was pricier than this. Is this actually better?

    • +1

      Almost certainly, yes.

Back in the day, the SGP was around this price, and in this price range, it was a reasonable option. Now, grinders have gotten far better and far cheaper…and the SGP costs around double what it used to, and makes no sense whatsoever.

(I don't know much about this grinder, as I haven't really looked at it - but someone above compares it favourably to the Encore ESP, which is a far better grinder than the SGP.)

But what would I do with my current SGP?

        • Give to a relative or friend that is using supermarket pre-ground coffee? Would still be an upgrade for them! :)

  • Any recommendations for beans to season this with?

Can someone verified this, under the listing. They have multiple listed items with almost identical item and some of them even have bonus product with the purchase.
What is the difference? I am confused.
