Viofo Dashcam Died after 3 Years, Store Wants Me to Pay US$60 for Replacement

I bought a Viofo A129 Duo Dash cam from Amazon about 3 years ago, it suddenly died on me so I reached out to Amazon who put me in touch with Viofo, after some back and forth they have suggested the following resolution.

I pay them US$60 and they send me a replacement unit, I asked about Australian consumer guarantee but I don't think they understood. Should I try fight more for a resolution under Australian consumer guarantee or should I just accept their offer?

It's not worth the hassle, you got a good 3 years use out of it under who knows what conditions which seems reasonable.

They're also not an Australian registered company as far as I am aware so a complaint won't get anywhere anyway.

    • ^ This.

Amazon usually refunds me or sends a replacement no questions asked.

Just let them know the manufacturer wasn’t any help.

  • What model are they sending you as replacement?

Get a new one. Get an A229. You got a good 3 years.

  • How much is a new one cost?

How much was it new? $400 ? fight them on it

$150, not worth it. I’d push for $60 off a newer model or a $60 amazon credit.

    • Retail seems to be $300ish. But it's someone on here, so I'd assume they bought it on a deal. The $60 for a like for like replacement is probably still the better option if it lasted 3 years.

I got it from this crazy deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/702818

Never seen it that low ever again. They gave me two options, I send them US$60 and they send me a replacement or they give US$30 credit to their store to buy a different model. Not sure how they came up with these numbers or why the difference.

      • Might be a silly thing to ask but is it definitely the dashcam itself that's died and not the cheap and nasty 12V car cigarette charger.

My Viofo A119S v2 is now about 7 years old but after about 3 years I thought it'd died but I replaced the cigarette charger adaptor and it's still going strong (touch wood)

Yeah, I never used that, I tried it on 2 different cables plugged in two different power adaptors.

Sound like goodwill credits. They are under no obligation to replace for free. If you want to push ACL you need to do that with the retailer, not the manufacturer.

Even then 3 years for a $99 dash cam isnt unreasonable.
