Have been on the fence about moving to induction cooking. From my research this seems to be best bang for buck. Interested in opinions for this deal.

i have this, its a beast

    • Do you find that it automatically turns off very easily when a tiny splash of water out of a pot lands on the capacitative control area?

This is basically an AEG/Electrolux with a 5 year Ikea warranty….bargain.
Sparky installers no.1 tip is to take spice jars from cupboard above the rangehood, he's lost count of the number of broken glass cooktops he's replaced from glass spice jars falling out of that cupboard. Generally cheaper to buy a new cooktop than replace the glass.

I had this happen to me with a portable one. Luckily it was only $50.

    For people who uses it…

Looks like there are 9 power level only.
    Is it fine enough?

Also is lower levels are continuous or pulses?

I have a portable one from IKEA.
I think it pulses below level 5. Kinda Ok. Not ideal.
Also 9 levels - for my stew it is really slow on level 2 but runs away in level 3. :)

I’m using the IKEA "BLIXTSNABB" model, which is made in Germany.

People often say food tastes better when cooked on gas, but honestly, I’ll never go back to gas or any other source of cooktop. induction is the only way for me.

The best thing about induction is cleaning. I love cooking, but when I used gas, oil splatters and spills would get burned on and turn everything black, and cleaning was such a pain. I usually let it get really messy before I finally cleaned it.

With induction, it’s just so easy, most of the time, a warm cloth is enough to make it spotless.

No matter which brand you choose, I highly recommend induction.
And by the way, being “Made in Germany” doesn’t keep it clean, you still have to wipe it yourself. :)

Here goes my dream of clean stove. :)

But jokes aside, is glass getting scratched over time and doesn't look clean?

      • I’ve been using mine for about two years now. Yes, there are some scratches, but once you wipe the glass clean, they don’t really stand out. Honestly, a gas stainless cooktop gets way more scratches, especially if you scrub off burnt food with a scouring pad. Everything gets scratched eventually.

It’s kind of like when you buy a new car, you worry about every tiny dent and scratch at first, but after a few years you don’t really notice them anymore. So I hope the idea of scratches doesn’t stop you from trying induction, because it hasn’t been an issue for me at all. 😉

  • How much is it usually for a sparky to install something like this? Is the cost savings worth it in the long run? If so, how many years will it take?

    • Needs more info.

What are you swapping for what?

      • Induction to induction should be a straight swap
      • Electric ceramic to induction might be a straight swap (depends on what sized cabling is in place)
      • Gas to induction will need wiring run

Does it need cabinetry work done?

    • I paid dedicate switch around 300, it is depends on sparky really. I got quotations around 500 and 300. They are both known sparky before. Of course licensed :)
