I want Superloop to do a 1000/400 plan. Grinds me that I'm limited to 100mb up.

    • +3

      What are you uploading?

      • +6

        Linux ISO's

        IYKYK

        • +2

I know right? The terabytes of Linux uploads I need to do per month is hard work.

      • Legit, what do they need that for?

        • +4

I have a Plex server that friends and family can connect to, with 4k movies on there it’s easy to need more than 100 upload

          • @Gordo69: Same but I've limited 4K ones just for local playback so I can get away with 40M (now 50) upload

      • I volunteer for a good cause.
I host many legit ISOs through a seed box.

I'm on the Superloop 1000/400 deal for $130/month, ABN required.

  • +4

$125 for a 400 upload is pretty competitive.

    • +1

      Highly agree.

    • +2

Very competitive, wished they had a Brisbane POI though.

  • I'm thinking about their 500/50 plan for 80 a month..but comments saying not worth it yet? is their backend stuff not as good?

    • +3

Carbon routes all your traffic to Sydney and you can get higher latency. IPv4 only and IPv6 is not available.

Good deal for those in NSW or if the above doesn't matter to you.

Do you care about CG-NAT or need a Static IP?

      • I am in Perth WA with Swoop. How Swoop router their WA traffic?

      • Does IPv6 make any impact for normal users?

      • +1

i share plex with family, so i need to disable CG-NAT

        • +4

500/50 $85/m ongoing with a Static IP @ Neptune Internet. CG-NAT is off, they have IPv6 and a VIC PoP.

500/50 $79.95/month for 12 months (new customers) @ Leaptel. Free to turn off CG-NAT, they have IPv6 and a VIC PoP.

        • +3

You can usually give them a call and opt out of cgnat, just tell them you need access to your home security cameras remotely. You will be given a "sticky" public ipv4 which rarely changes. Plex doesn't care if your ip changes so you will be fine.

        • Is 50mbps really enough upload for a multi user Plex server?

          • @Agret: How many simultaneous users and what bitrate are they streaming at?
Upload required = users * bitrate.

            • +1

@gamerkonks: I've had 13 people on recently with 50 up, it was pulling 33.75mbps. So a very unlikely scenario streaming 720p H265, no transcoding

    we need 10000/5000

    • +1

Nope, we need everyone to have FTTP first, I hope the maximum they offer is 2000/500 until everyone gets FTTP.

      Oh and I have FTTP.

      • XGS-PON FTTP speeds will come before everyone is on fibre. Many will remain on FW or Amazon satellite.

  • Could be the Best 1000/400 plan available

    • At that price point its a no brainer if you want the higher upload speed and are in Sydney or if you aren't in Sydney and don't mind the higher pings until more POPs come online.

  • Job done. We've now had a deal posted from every ISP in the country over the past couple of weeks.

  • Question for the tech literate…if in the recent free NBN upgrade I am suppose to go up to 500Mbps down speed on HCF, but am only getting 220Mbps down speed after the 'upgrade' from 100.

Does that mean there is no point of me buying a faster tier?

Would switching the retailer help? Currently with More.

    Thanks in advance

nbn HFC is capable of 2000/100. You may need to replace your router for 500/50.

      1. What speed do you get with a wired Ethernet cable?
      2. What is the brand and model number of the router?
      • Same speed on wifi 6 speed test on my phone and on Ethernet.

Arris CM8200 and Asus RT-AX3000. If anything I think the NBN modem is older than the router.

I found instructions for a reset button, will try tonight.

      • Have tried hard reset now and many many soft resets. Still 220Mbps. I guess it's still better than 100…

I wonder how to get a newer NBN modem.

        • +1

I don't think the NTD is the problem. The CM8200 is capable of Gigabit. Go on a 2000/100 plan to get the new nbn HFC 1-port NTD.

The Asus RT-AX3000 can easily do 500/50. Do you have QoS enabled on the Asus?

          • +2

@Twix: Yay! Legend. Thank you. QoS was off. Didn't know QoS made such a big difference. I would have thought having it one slowed traffic down.

            435Mbps down.

Thank you sir! Wish Ozbargain had a way to let users better thank each other than +1

            • @hippo2s: Funnily enough I was going to say turn QoS off but if it helps leave QoS on.

Did you do Adaptive or Traditional QoS?

              • @Twix: Yeah I would have thought so too QoS would slow down traffic but for whatever reason speddtest speeds up based on the data for different application types. Testing my browsing, streaming and YouTube…it is faster for sure.

It's not the device based QoS if that's what you mean by traditional.

Try hard resetting your router - I was capping out at like 280 until I hard reset my router and got the 750 on my plan.

      • Have tried hard reset on the Arris CM8200, made no difference. Open to next step suggestions.

Update: apparently QoS off actually makes traffic slower. I thought having it On would slow down. Turned it on in the router and instantly 435Mbps.

    • Your router or ethernet cable is too old

    • The NBN Network Termination Device is a Arris CM8200 and router is an Asus RT-AX3000.

Have tried power cycle the NBN NTD many times, no difference. Same 220Mbps down speed test result via Wifi on my phone and Ethernet cable directly to a laptop. If it was the Ethernet cable I would not expect same slow speed on wifi 6?

Update: apparently QoS off actually makes traffic slower. I thought having it On would slow down. Turned it on in the router and instantly 435Mbps.

      Thank you all!

You can 1000/400 for $135/month for 12 months with Leaptel, they have POPs in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide.

    • Do they require an ABN?

      • +1

No, anyone can get nbn FTTP 1000/400 @ Leaptel.

    Excellent price 👌

Signed up for the new plan today — speed tests are coming in around 900 Mbps down and 130–150 Mbps up. The upload is a fair bit lower than I expected.

I called support (who were actually really helpful). They had me plug my PC directly into the NBN box to rule out my router, but the issue persisted. They’re now escalating it with NBN to investigate why the upload isn’t where it should be.

Just thought I’d share my experience in case anyone else runs into the same thing.

    Connection is FTTP

    • Thanks for the feedback. I wonder if the 4 hour fault time applies and you find out a reply quicker? Also post your experience over on the Whirlpool thread as well. Let us know how you go.

Just signed up for the business 1000/400. Was extremely fast, almost shockingly so considering I didn't have to enter any payment info (so wasn't actually expecting it to "just happen"). 10 minutes later I was connected.

937 down and 380 up, ping of 2ms (Sydney). Very happy so far!

    • Can I ask, are you HTTP or HFC? What changes do you need to make in your router?

      • 1000/400 is FTTP.

      • +1

Yes, FTTP. I didn't have to do anything other than rebooting the router to force it to grab a new IP.
