    nice for the price 👍

needs to be paired with a decent sub for the lows

    https://www.erinsaudiocorner.com/loudspeakers/jamo_s807/

way better than other speaker packages at similar price point

    • Yeesh, I'd be wanting to ensure to have a way to EQ the worst of that frequency response. But agreed, you're getting a lot of speaker for the money.

  • Damn that's a good price. I have the same set in black (came with the S810 sub) and am tempted just to get this for another room

  • How do these compare to the baseline Yamaha kit?

    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/yamaha-ns51-series-5-1-chann…

    • +2

Those Yamahas can be had for $700 or a bit less if you ring a round a few stores. I have them and like them. Probably better value than these considering they come with a sub, and are larger. No idea what the S807 sounds like though, and have to assume it’s being paired with a $150 sub (new not used) for apples to apples.

    • The jamo is way better. You do need a sub though.

  • Can we arrange our own freight?

    • +2

Yes 100% however if it arrives damaged you must take it up with them directly

  • Any matching sub?

    • +1

not at the same level of discount.

I can offer this at $599 for any who purchases a set however wait time will be 3-4 weeks and I don't know if you all would like a black sub with shite speakers

These are not high-fidelity by any metric.

  • Beginner…what do you need to make this work…a sub and a av reciver?

    And
Can thr large speakers be placed behind the sofa

Also is the speakers good for playing music etc radio station (need an av reciver?)

    • +1

A subwoofer isn’t essential and can always be added later if you feel the bass is lacking. An AVR (minimum 5.1) is required to run these speakers—even just for listening to the radio. While you can position the large speakers behind the couch, it’s not recommended for the best sound experience.

    • +1

The large speakers are the fronts, why would you want to place them behind you? The 2 smaller speakers are designed to be placed behind you to give the surround effect.

      • Sometimes people place the large speakers at the back simply because of space or setup limitations. For example, if they’ve got a wall-to-wall cabinet at the front, the towers won’t fit or won’t look right. Other times they don’t want to bother with stands for the smaller surrounds, so they just use the towers behind the couch instead. Not ideal for sound, but it does happen in real-world setups.

        • +2

I would suggest a soundbar may be a better solution for most people if space/aesthetics is an issue.

    • Newb here as well. I was thinking similar too, kinda felt like makes sense to have more powerful speakers near you if you're far away from Tv And front speakers. Also you don't need speaker stands to raise rear speakers as they are already on a height and front ones can be placed on a tv stand. Could work if calibrated properly….? But yeah I guess it's not standard

      • +1

If you’re running it in an All Channel Stereo mode, then your setup shouldn’t really be a problem since all speakers will be outputting the same signal. Where it can become an issue is in movie or surround sound modes, because the system is designed so that the front left/right speakers anchor the soundstage (dialogue, music, main effects) while the surrounds handle more subtle effects and atmosphere.

That said, if space or furniture layout makes it hard to place the large speakers at the front, it’s not the end of the world. You can always adjust speaker levels in your AVR to push more sound to the front channels and balance things out as best as possible. Ideally though, the towers belong at the front since they’re built to carry the weight of the soundtrack.

Another option (if you’re limited on space) is to use the AVR’s speaker configuration and crossover settings—set the towers as “small” and let a sub handle bass, or tweak channel trims to emphasise whichever side you want stronger. Room correction systems like Audyssey, YPAO, or Dirac can also help optimize placement that isn’t textbook perfect.

So in short: yes, it can “work” if calibrated properly, but it’s a compromise

    • Yes, you'll need something like a Denon or Yamaha AV Receiver

  • Any 7.1 amps/receivers?
    (For upgrade purposes!)

  • I wonder how bad these speakers actually sound

    • Totally depends on what you value, in my 20's I spent 1000's on setups like this, now that i'm in my 30's and have less time and space, I value convenience more than having a 'superior' sound experience.

Like any form of entertainment, sound is subjective, hence soundbars are just too easy and popular these days, they cater to 90-95% of people. For audiophiles, you can never get them to agree even amongst them, because it's so subjective, hence it's a rabbit hole that one can go through and come out poorer (financially) and never fully satisfied.

      • I mean addicted to audio have q3030i 2.0 on sale, I wonder if I just start there and build it out with time. Likely a much better choice right

        • Probably an easier place to start correct.

      • I did enter a jb store recently and wondered where all their av receivers and speakers went. It's all sound bars now. The only speakers are smaller ones with the record players.

  • Bought these same speakers with the sub years ago and they've been great in a decent sized home theatre room. Sure, there are better sounding options, but I doubt anything comes close at this price.

    • Sure, there are better sounding options, but I doubt anything comes close at this price.

It's because these are discounted from a fake RRP of $2497. Big doubt these value anywhere near that. Still, the $499 is definitely attractive for a lot of people, especially those looking to show off since these stand out more than your usual soundbars. Nonetheless, these are passive and the cost of the AV Receiver ($500+) more or less disqualifies this for a lot of people. Normal buyers would receive a shock from knowing you can't just plug these in. Chances are, someone with an AV Receiver wouldn't be looking at this sort of poor low quality fake RRP shit in the first place.

As someone who owned the predecessor to these (S806), please don't. They're awful. The Samsung Q800T soundbar that replaced them is leagues ahead in SQ. You can literally spend that $500 on a mid range soundbar and come out ahead, and soundbars aren't exactly known for being high fidelity.

    • That bad huh

      • +2

The centre speaker was so bad I just straight up removed it and used the front L+R for dialogue instead.

    • I concur. But some buy these purely for the aesthetics as soundbars are ugly as (profanity).

    • Curious. I have the S606 set and they sound good.

    • So keep running my Accusound Reference 8.6XD setup and save for something much better?

  • +1

If you want to go below 70-80 hertz with any great volume you'll need a sub. Not saying these speakers won't sound OK, but 2 5" mid-woofers (even in a good sized ported box) just cannot move enough air. Cross these to a sub at 80 hertz (Amos standard) and they'll sound a lot better, because they are not killing themselves trying to go down below 50 hertz.
If you are in a smaller room, just go with a sound bar. If you are in a larger room pay attention to speaker positioning; and get a sub.

  • Only 5 units left ladies and gentlemen.

Local ebin is loaded with speakers with numbnuts "upgrading" to a soundbar.

I now have Denon and Klipsch speakers out in the rain around the pool…. Muteki in the shed…What a world!

    • +1

Agreed. I don't know in what world people compare a hollow, cheap plastic soundbar to proper cabinet speakers. Some people are delusional.

      • in theory a completely badly setup 5.1 system with a terrible reciever that they didnt read the manual to could sound worse than a good soundbar plonked down in a room

but yeah spending time reading your receiver manual and setting up even this system well should be better than just about any soundbar out there

  • Would these sound better than a sonos arc+sub ?

    • Probably not.

    https://www.erinsaudiocorner.com/loudspeakers/jamo_s807/

these are kind of ordinary non linear "stack 'em high at HN" type speakers

fed enough power and with EQ you could probably do something with them but yeah…. however if you power it with a sub $500 bullshit yamaha receiver then you will get bings and bongs and bangs from your blurays

but i mean what do you expect for $500
