Can't Connect to Internet Using Xiaomi Mi AX3600 Router

I have a FTTP connection using DHCP. ISP is Optus. It has been working flawlessly in the past 3 months.

Currently my AX3600 is unable to connect to the Internet. The error is DHCP service not responding.

Is this an issue on the router or the ISP?

Connecting directly using Ethernet on the laptop from the NTD works fine.

I have tried to factory reset the Xiaomi router. Anyone can give me ideas to troubleshoot?

  • I had something similar with GLi.net and Tangerine. Randomly stopped working and then randomly fixed itself. Does it work momentarily when you plug Ethernet into router?

    • No, the router can't connect to the Internet.

Any wired or wireless connection from the router is unable to reach the internet.

      • You can try copying the DHCP settings on laptop to the router. If you can, also clone the MAC address of the laptop.

  • Port is MAC locked to your laptop now :/

Last time I dealt with NBN, the time-out was around 6 hours (leave laptop disconnected for 6 hours, then plug router back in)

I have tried to factory reset the modem.

Um, now there is the problem, you will have to reconfigure it for DHCP :/

Here is probably what went down:
    - Optus had an outage (so your router dropped the connection)
    - You noticed the drop, tried to tinker with the router, nothing worked due to outage
    - outage self resolves
    - however you now plug the laptop in, it now works, but locks the NBN port to the laptop MAC instead of router
    - replug router, won't work cause port MAC locked
    - reset router > it loses its DHCP config > now can't connect due to config issue

    • thanks. i think its pretty much spot on. except that i have reconfigured for DHCP after the factory reset.

ABB lets you kick the router/PC, does Optus not have the same option?

I am guessing they do, just time-locked behind a 2 hour support call ;)

  • Unplug the laptop and Xiaomi router and wait at least 30 minutes.

Plug in the Xiaomi router to the nbn NTD box and configure the WAN to DHCP.

  • I had a whole packet of xiaomi and not one would connect - so I just chucked em in a curry. Best throughput I’ve had all week.”

    • Was the curry nice?
Would you say it was Chinese curry or Taiwanese curry?

      • It’s always nice with rice, especially little rice.

  • Thank you all.

I did a little testing today. So I unplugged the cable from ntd to the wan port on the router. (just to replace the lan cable)

Restarted the router. It does not come back up.

Is this the time where we need to ask the ISP to kick out the connection? How long is the time out if it's not kicked out.
