ShopBack User Interview for $30 Cashback

I got an invitation from Shopback to participate in a 45-minute user interview by Google Meet to share my input with them.
As a thank you, I'll get $30.
Just wondering if anyone here has taken the offer and if so, how was your experience?

I couldn't secure the timeslot fast enough.

      All gone

      • Interesting.

Wow, so many people are willing to undergo a video interview for just $30.
I myself don't mind the time or the effort but more concerned with privacy issues.
I got enough ID hacks already and SB got hacked before.

      • If you read the fine print, they might use the video in their advertising

          wow… mine said
          "Other notes
The session will be video recorded - this includes your face, voice, and your shared mobile screen. The recordings will be used for research and product improvements only."

          a pass for me.

@snorkey: 'advertising' often improves the profitability of products.

            • @jv: Woah legalese subtlety

I saw it, having them record your face, voice and screen is a bit much given how much more info they'd have on you (full name, address, email, purchase and browsing history, card identifier).

With SB's data and privacy reputation, that's a hard pass

They might start advertise themselves as the Best cashback app in the entire Galactic Empire.

        Shopbacca…

  • I'd do the interview if they let me don my wizard hat and robe

    • +1

Just wear it anyway and see if they react to it.
If they ask you take it off for the interview you can either:

      1. get really offended and say it's your religion and how dare they; or
      2. press play on some sexy Barry White tunes and start slowly taking the hat then the robe off while gently swaying side to side

If you do the occasional marketing research gig, the pay is much better, more like $100/hour. $30 a bit of an insult really.

    • +1

Interesting, can you give examples of gigs that pay that much?

      • +3

Most market research asks you not to talk about studies you have completed, but if you look at what studies market research agencies are currently recruiting for, e.g. https://rtr.com.au/projects/ they pay a lot better as an hourly rate for just interviews. Anything extra on top of the interview - use biometric data, take photos of stuff in your house, share a screen recording (which it sounds like shopback want a recording of you using their app), also often gets an extra fee on top.

Shopback are saving money by doing the research themselves, not using an agency, and again saving more by underpaying their participants, pretty grubby.

        • Thanks for the info

    • They also ask you to go there physically.

Not necessarily. I've done plenty of Zoom interviews.
