JBBUDDY.COM - Instant Price Comparisons for TVs, Laptops, Phones and Tablets

Moved to Forum: Original Link

I created https://jbbuddy.com which allows for instant price comparisons for TVs, Laptops, Phones and Tablets across all Aussie retailers.

The site is free, no ads, no affiliates and no bullshit.

I've designed the site to compare exclusively on Model Number to ensure accuracy.
This means you will need to search with an exact model number or the jb hi-fi SKU number.

There are instructions on the site.
I have also added a barcode scanner for ease of use which is currently exclusive to people who support the project to keep it alive but will be public soon.

TVs is my specialty but the other categories I've listed in the thread will work with more to come.

Prices are compared instantly with 10 Aussie retailers meaning you can then price-match at your favourite/closest retailer (jb, harvey norman, bing lee, good guys, ect) or you can just purchase from the cheapest store.

There's a lot more features in the pipeline such as Price History (per product per store), Offline Mode, Easy Product Selector and more.
I put all the updates on Reddit which you will find on the site.

    I like it!

    But trouble is brewing

compare exclusively on Model Number to ensure accuracy.

If this feature works, could be a huge plus. Google shopping sometimes does stupid stuff like throwing in grey market models, refurbished models, different capacities, or outright different models. (Eg when googling iPhone or Samsung ultra etc)

This post is not a deal though imo.

I track across 10 retailers which are compatible with price matching, in-stock and not seconds. Will keep adding reputable stores.

        • I didn’t neg you , but a good example of google shopping being stupid is I google ssc813p (panda) at least once a week , and I’ll get 3-4 hits for it usually - and then a bunch of random citizen chronos, sometimes the 911, the pogue, the black stealth one, the coke one, the newer blue white one (sorry too lazy to google the references).

Why be bound to one source, especially if it's a mega corporation constantly behaving badly?

      • Because that source covers more than what this site does and will likely show you a much better price than this site.
You do you, but this feels like a waste when there are better sources out there.
Still doesn't make this post a deal. It's a forum post at best.

      Can't believe you reported it…

I'm one of 6 who did because it's not a bargain post listing. It belongs in forums if anywhere.

    • Independent Aussie Dev vs US giant mega corporation.

    • Google shopping gives false positives and includes retailers that won't be compatible with price matching. The aim of the game here is find which price matching compatible store has the cheapest price and then show that at your local retailer of choice. (Or buy from the cheaper store)

  • jb ? is this sponsored by jbhifi?
    why not bargainbuddy.com.au
    ie BB baby baby

it says why on the page bro

    • Not sponsored or affiliated, when I released it a month ago I thought it's primary use would be for price matching at JB but I expanded, too late to change the name.

      • You're going to have to change the name anyway when they file a Cease and Desist, the website is literally leveraging the JB brand to promote their competitors…

  • Googling the model number with quotation marks is sufficient enough to me. But I appreciate the effort.

    • It wasn't for me, hence why I created something comprehensive and easy.

When I saw your name, i was excited for a minute as I thought it was BJBuddy.com

    • Lol sounds like a good feature to add 🤣

  • Probably uses the same backend as the The Good Guys price check

    • Nope, completely custom and a pain in the arse to maintain.

      • Cool awesome work. Do you have a list of retailers on the website? I can't seem to find it. How are you scraping the data without hitting the anti-bots? You'd need keys for backend apis.

    Doesn't even work.

Tried searching the G14 GA403WR-QS118W. Just showed harvey and jb….

Quick google found it 1k cheaper.

Best of luck though for you lad.

    • That means other retailers didn't have that EXACT product. TVs are the specialty and I only track aussie retailers which are compatible with price matching. Best of luck with whatever you do…

      • I stand corrected. The model it showed did have a slightly different serial number.

    Where's the deal?
    This belongs in the forums

  • all Aussie retailers. … Prices are compared instantly with 10 Aussie retailers

Pretty sure there are more than 10 retailers in Australia.

@INFEKTEK Good job. Appreciate the effort and know what a pain/labour of love these types of things are

@INFEKTEK Good on you. Hope it goes very well for you.
    This will bring future bargains.
Good Lord there are some handkerchief twisters in here.

  • Nice work, but all of those things are irregular purchases, so I won't have use for it.

These days, I use https://www.perplexity.ai/ (which beats the crap out of Google).
"Best price for {whatever you are seeking}". You can add qualifiers to narrow the search (e.g. 'in {wherever} only', 'within 100km of {wherever}). In other words, people need to use imagination to obtain a more personalised search result.
