Where Do You Buy Cheap Prescription Glasses in Australian Online Stores?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on where to find affordable prescription glasses on Australian online stores.

I’ve noticed Zenni in the U.S has become quite expensive and postage is a killer, so I’m keen to hear if anyone has experience with other online retailers that offer good value.

In Googling, I've found Vision Direct, Optically, Firmoo and Clearly but I'm not too sure on the quality of each.

Any tips, recommendations, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

If it's online, I go to vision direct but I go instore and get the model number of the glasses.

Too much of a gamble to buy online without trying them on first.

You can always try instore such as spec savers and Oscar wylee, they always have specials on, such as 2 for $199 if you're not too fussed about brand named frames.

    • even branded ones, i got 2 pairs of hugo boss from specsavers on a "all frames 2 for $199" sale.

      2 for $199

And then $400 in additional add ons for basic things you would think should be standard 😂

  • Vision Direct. Last pair I got was the Oakley Gauge 5.1 in pewter colour. They had a 30% off on many frames. This one didn't, but I asked for one and they gave it. Now here I am promoting their company.

Got the last couple from clearly.

  • Costco

  • I use Zenni. They were good so I paid $345 for a pair of multifocals vs 2 for $899 at Specsavers. No need ATM but Chatgpt will show you some options.

  • I bought from Clearly in the past and I'm happy with the glasses. But usually I buy from Zenni.

  • Got from vision direct before, pretty crappy quality, constant headaches and they felt more blurry than my old pair, even after sticking it out for a month.

Thought my prescription was wrong, went to OPSM optometrists for a check and they said the prescription was fine. The optometrist tested the lenses and they didn't match the prescription I gave them. Of course OPSM would say that given the chance to upsell you, but still.

  • If you have private health insurance with extras, check that your insurance company will reimburse purchases from the site you use. I've had it work with Vision Direct. I've also used Optically and Clearly but can't remember if I got reimbursed with those.

  • I've bought several pairs from clearly.
usually there are coupon codes floating around.
and the "end of range" glasses can often be bought for $15 delivered

First result, eyebuydirect, has glasses "Starting at just $9".

  • Zenni is cheap and good if you are looking for outside Australia
