While looking (hoping) for deals on the Lenovo Legion 7i I came across this deal for an X1 Carbon gen 12 on the Lenovo outlet. While a lot of the outlet items are refurbished, this one is for a new model.

I don't know the dates but as the promo code is "SEPOUTLET" I think it safe to say it expires at the end of September.

    155U ThinkPad X1 carbon

For $1899 with the fake alleyloop RRP of $3739

    Yeah nah.

    • +1

According to StaticIce (https://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=lenovo+thinkpa…) the best price you'll find elsewhere for this model is $2,450 from CCPU (albeit with 3yr warranty).

I like the X1 Carbon line, personally.

      • The X1 Carbon has so many issues if you look at forums and reviews though. Overheating, flexing, screen dimness. It's marketed as a pro ultrabook but it's crap

        • +3

not so sure. my X1 from 2016 is still going strong. wont die. And stiff as a wedding prick.

          • @slickb: Older models maybe. It's known that newer models are "fake" ThinkPads lol

        • My gen 6 still going strong

  • In before this gets compared to an IdeaPad for cheaper.

But to be fair, all lenovo rrps are a joke. Arguably less believable than luggage RRP haha.

I mean, if someone really wants, they also have an IdeaPad for $149 -> https://www.lenovo.com/au/outlet/en/p/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-3/ideapad-1i-gen-7-(14-inch-intel)/82lvxa05au

It is refurbished, has a Celeron CPU, and 4GB of RAM … but hey, it's $149 for those who want cheap.

I would expect at least 32 gb ram for 1900 bucks

    14" WUXGA (1920 x 1200), IPS, Anti-Glare, Non-Touch, 100%sRGB, 400 nits, 60 Hz, Low Power

Do Lenovo think no-one in Australia ever takes their laptop outdoors? Why do they always have such low nit screens?

    • +9

      400 nits isn't low.

  • +5

For something that had an original retail price of 3800, how does it come with only 16gb ram and 512gb of memory? This is even worse than Apple specs if comparing retail prices

    • +5

At least Apple would give you a decent display resolution.

  • +1

Needed a new laptop quick (otherwise would wait for BF) looked at that one but and few others but ultimately pulled the trigger on this one from OW better screen/battery newer cpu gen/wifi, also considered the AMD and Snapdragon versions of the yoga slim 7 but this seemed the best balance between price/performance/battery

  • +2

    this is my work laptop,
buyer beware, for some strange reason, its bluetooth connection is less than stable (i.e. noise-cancelling headphones, mouse, keyboard),
this is especially noticeable when the system is under stress, feels like the wifi/bluetooth card is competing for priorities

    CPU is sufficient
issues are the GPU (driving 4k displays) and low battery endurance

thunderbolt/USB-C docks with power-delivery is a hidden requirement
(currently paired with an Ultrasharp U2723QE)

I got a refurb (great quality 85% battery) Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen9 i71185G7 with touchscreen, shutter, 1TB, 32Gb ram and LTE for $953

    • +1

from where? that's a great price

      • +1

Ebay Plus sale from maxcomputertrading with sale voucher $195 off

        • How long does battery last with normal use?

          • @the1doood: Only had it for 1 week. Too early to tell.
            More than 6hrs so far.

  • X1 Carbon is a fantastic machine for business usage and my go to over the past 8 years. I just upgraded to the Gen 13 Aura edition 32Gb RAM 2TB Gen 5 SSD for around $2800 after cashback referrals. Gen 13 has brighter screen and is lighter (sub 1kg). The Gen 13 version with similar specs is around $2200 so Gen 12 at $1800 is about right.
    https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpadx1/t…

I would suggest 32Gb ram though. My Gen 8 starting to struggle with 16gb

  • +4

An intel CPU with no dedicated GPU.
A screen size of 14" at 1920x1200 resolution.
    A ram size of 16gb.
    An SSD size of 512gb.

Even at $1900, it's hard to justify.
