  • People need to stop trusting their skin care brand for sunscreen.
Just buy a sunscreen brand that works.

But how do we know which ones work?

In the Choice testing, even the Cancer Council and Banana Boat - brands I would argue are "specialists" when it comes to sun protection were well under the claimed SPF numbers.

better to not go outside tbh

Many years ago a friend applied a well known SPF50 sunscreen brand and was outdoors all day in February. He returned and was absolutely red raw with sunburn. The cream did nothing at all. I urged him to contact the manufacturer and let them know, but he just let it slide.

There have probably been bad batches of sunscreen, or ineffective ones, on the market for a long time. It's only now that they're caught.

    • was outdoors all day in February

How often did your "friend" reapply throughout the day?

      • Yes, friend. He said he did, and it's a show he went to every year at the same time. Never had a problem before with severe sunburn.

    LOL

The TGA are doing their job now but ONLY after a private consumer group did half of their job for them first.

I feel safe and effective already. /s

  • who would have thought jv was right?

the same sh*te base sunscreen formulation was used in all the mineral sunscreens and the TGA is questioning the reliability of the SPF testing

  • I used to think it was "sunscream" when I was a little kid.

  • unlikely to have an SPF greater than 21

Pretty sure this was in A Current Affair 10 years ago…
