Does anyone know how much plumbers charge to rerun a small section of copper pipe and to install a garden tap to the wall?
I am getting quotes of $500+ and I am thinking of just DIY it at this rate.

15 mins per day.
Someone on Airtasker will do it for $200.
that same person will also; change the cams in your car engine, set up an AI data centre, perform a heart transplant, with references that only allude to manual labor jobs
LOL dream on.
Plumbers are charging a minimum $350 just to turn up nowdays
$500 sounds cheap to me
….OP could simply do it themselves if they know what they are doing (probably not)
Depends entirely on how far it is from the water main and if it's overground or underground.
In Perth I had something comparable done and would expect you'd pay between $300 - $600 depending on the suburb and plumber, assuming it's just a short run of copper without many bends, and assuming you've dug out/exposed the pipe to be replaced.
Being in Syd i'd expect you'd pay a bit more than Perth.
I don't think anyone is going to be able to confirm or deny if the quotes you have received are accurate based on the very limited information you have provided. You mention Small Section without actually defining the location of your mains or the length of pipe required.
The golden rule is get 3 quotes, do your due diligence with reviews and go with the suitable one or do it yourself (at your own risk)
What's your handiness level? This is pretty easy stuff.
Go for it, expect to pay more when you stuff it up ;)
Sounds like something a tradie would say.
Nah, just from experience ;)
I couldn't find a water leak, so I started from the supply meter and installed completely new piping above ground - bypassing the leak!
(but guessing a leak professional would have done it quicker and cheaper than me!)
If you're not eligible to enter the Paralypmics or Special Olympics you can probably DIY it.
DIY for sure
Use shark bite fittings , no special tools required then
No photos/diagram/decent description of the job. How long is a piece of string
DIY. Easy peasy job.
Buy sufficient pipe in right diameter, assuming you dont already have it. allow a little extra
Buy a flaring tool, and bolts for both ends.
Buy a Bending tool.
Buy a hacksaw or cutting tool
Buy a tap that will fit
Buy a couple of clips for the wall.
Piece of cake the second time.
A great learning experience the first time, and well under $100
The payback is the satisfaction of learning something really new
Why a flaring tool?
When you want to join the pipe to a connector or a tap, you use a flare connector fitting. First you put in on the pipe (ther right way round), then, you flare the pipe end with the tool, which gives it a fitted, sealable connection. Apply some Teflon tape, and tighten it all up.
how long are you running it
