Skiing in October?? Forecast for Mt Buller for Sunday is 13… bit warm for snow isn't it?

    • Its not all real snow. A lot just man-made anyways. You'll just have to deal with some of the dry patches as you're going down

    • It's not too bad right now, I was just at Perisher a few days ago BOM had issued a forecast for possible snow on the 1 and 2 of October. I had to leave Tuesday, so I missed the snow.

out of topic but why TF does Australia has nearly the most expensive lift tickets??

    • High income so high prices to offset

    • +1

Fake snow is more expensive to make than real snow.

      • Even if it’s real snow on the day, the cost is still the same.

        • But they're still pumping the fake stuff like they don't care about snow seasons 25 years from now

    • +1

Australia has a shorter snow season to make money

Resorts have only about 12 to 16 weeks to cover big operating costs, including paying lift operators, ski instructors, snowmakers, admin staff and emergency responders.

    • +2

Because they can get away with it. That and cost of operating and maintaining probably costs more here than anywhere else in the world.

Other reasons but profit is the biggest factor

    • Swing and a miss, ChatGPT joke

  • Good work Mt Buller….I miss Merlin/ Hotham deals.

Good for a bit of Desi spotting

    • Would be a great bargain if you can bring your rifle

I havent been to the snow in 25 years or more, I get what lift fee is, but can someone explain what resort entry fee is?

And are tyre chains needed and can they be hired? ( I assume so…but just checking)

    • In NZ resort entry and a shuttle is called complementary.

In Australia it's called making more for share holders.

If we look at Hotham, 2 mates in a car will pay roughly $70..per day.

They will ride the bus approx 4 times a day together for about 2km.

If they shared an Uber at $10 trip..they would still be ahead.

Resort entry also includes road clearing (thought we pay rego for that), and ski patrol (somehow not part of $1m lifts).

Somehow NZ make it work for $0…

    • Somewhere along the line, its become private land. They can charge whatever entry fees they feel like.

Chains can be hired but most likely not needed in this sort of weather lol

      • Chains are orten mandatory regardless of weather if you're driving all the way to the summit. Best to check.
