"Here's your current plan: PC Game Pass - Your subscription price is changing from $35.99 to $49.90"

I just received that in an email from Xbox Game Pass. Being a veteran OzBargainer, I saw the forum post, I saw the Telstra deal and immediately stocked up until 2027. I've already activated the codes. It shows the following date on the my account:

PC Game Pass
Next charge on January 3, 2027, AU$19.45

Now where on earth did they get those $35.99 and $49.90 figures from? Did their system crap itself trying to make up for the money they are losing on my membership? 😂

Did anyone else get weird hallucinated emails like that?

Sharp price increases were announced a few days ago: https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2025/10/01/xbox-game-pass-ultima…

I'm fully aware hence why I stocked up. I'm more curious as to where these absurdly high figures in their email came from!

  • Hmm werid, did they accidentally leak the next price increase?

  • +1

Price increases are from November 4 in Aus they've already advised them
Press Start have all the details listed https://press-start.com.au/news/xbox/2025/10/03/grab-some-xb…

No idea why it would have been saying PC Game Pass as high as you've mentioned though.

u can still cancel and get ur money back which is good. Still havent paid for gp in years!

i assume this is a hack? so you pay for 1 month then cancel before the end of the month and buy again and repeat?

      • +1

        yep, no questions asked

        • Quick question, I saw a comment like this a long time ago and decided to try it for myself. I paid for 1 month, and tried to cancel on the last day… nek minute I was charged for the next month halfway in. (Signed up on the 1st, and was charged for the next month on the 14th… before I had a chance to cancel it).

Can you explain in exact steps on when to cancel so I get the whole month but don't get charged for the next month? Thanks!

@Bignudge: on the microsoft website where u manage the subscription it gives u 2 options, 1 to keep the sub until the end of the period/month but take ur money, or 2, cancel immediately and get a refund.

            • @iDeker: Yes, and which day do I cancel it on? The day before renewal (halfway throughout the month), or on the last day of the month?

              • +1

@Bignudge: doesnt matter. i guess to be safe, a couple days before would be best. I also wait for my money to come back into my account first to just to be sure but it can take a couple days

                • @iDeker: Awesome, many thanks! Ill give it another go

I guess I'm going to have to actually buy Sea of Thieves when my ISmellPennies deal runs out.

Just a word of warning there are sites; while safe, allow you to buy grey market PC pass for $3.50 a month. Sites like Plati and Z2U, which I highly recommend nobody should buy as it's not the price Microsoft wants you to pay.

    • +2

Where are you getting $3.50 a month? I'm seeing at least like $17USD for 1 month top up or $11USD for a new account

    • The first product on the link posted is straight up $13.42USD/1 month or $150.17USD/15 months. I will buy the one for $3.50/month, please dm me :)

  • Gamepass Ultimate is $35.99

Ive not seen anyone say it's going up to $49.90

  • “Yeah, no it’s not…”
    *presses cancel membership button*

  • What Telstra deal please?

  • Did anyone else get weird hallucinated emails like that?

no but I'm getting a lot of ai generated responses. and a lot of ghosting too, which makes me think the first response was ai generated I just didn't see it.
first email answers like 3 out of 4 questions. I'm like great but what about this? it's been months with no response.
and I'm not talking about small unknown stores.
